The Boom Room 6/23/2006

A hostile takeover of your high-school gym. It's standing-room only on the hardwood floor, which stretches across the second floor. Ample stage space leaves plenty of freedom for bands. The acoustics, like your high school gym, are a bit boomy. The standing aside, seeing a show here can make you a bit weary. Logan Square Auditorium is without a face -- there's no marquee or information desk, just a haphazard crew whose members seem to take on all duties. I'm guessing it's because of this that the shows tend to start late. The information you do get is printed up on tiny cards, just a massive list of future acts. The LSA does get points here for curatorial skill, as some really rare acts play here. You'll probably end up seeing a show here because nobody else has booked them. But it's very possible to enjoy your show in this space. more

L.S.A. 5/20/2006

I hope they make some improvements and this place sticks around. It's not a very attractive place, especially on the outside. It took them quite a while to fix this place up and get a license for live concerts. The sound does need work and it is like a gym. The thing is though they are starting to get some pretty big names as well as rockin' local bands. Alterbridge played here! Remember them (3/4 of Creed). Hey, I just heard Scott is going to open up for INXS. more

It's Like Going to an Old High School Dance with Bouncers instead of the Principal 4/24/2006

I really like the Logan Square Auditorium, it takes me back to the Fifties, but in a grimier part of a town like Detroit or Philadelphia, but instead of it being the Fifties when the Auditorium may have been "newer", it is 2006, and the place is that permanently dingy white colour used to brighten the place up. Anyway, you have to go upstairs to get to this smaller-sized music hall that brings in various acts (e.g. I saw Electric Six, maybe that's why I think of Detroit...) There is a small bar in the back of the room, on the other side of the way one enters, but it's slow, so plan accordingly. The acoustics are not good, but not tremendously bad, and you get what you pay for, which is a sad statement considered today's concert industry, but Logan Square Aud is fun, low-key, cheap, and really, really smoky. more
