this morning it was cold, and the snow was coming down heavy. i was on my way to get coffee when i noticed a pigeon on the ground outside of new wave coffee, laying on its back with its neck twisted just lying kind of motionless and blinking. the snow was already starting to bury it.
i wasn't sure what to do, so i went into the coffee shop to ask if they had a number for some kind of animal services that might come help put it out of its misery. they told me no one could help, animal services only comes out for cats or dogs. one of the baristas offered to come out and bludgeon it, but i passed. another one suggested logan square animal hospital right around the corner.
i am writing this review because i was deeply moved by the fact that the people in the hospital were non-judgemental and kind when i explained the situation. i know it's just a pigeon, hundreds die every day especially in the winter. but someone from the hospital bothered to put on coat, boots, hat etc and get a box and some towels, and follow me all the way around the block to save the pigeon from a slow cold burial.
it means alot that the employees of an animal hospital truly care about the suffering of a living creature, and took enough time to comfort me and deal with the situation. if i had a pet i would bring them here because i know they actually care.
