Best

My husband and I have been wanting to eat here since moving to the LES but every time we wander past on the weekends it's packed (it seems like most of the better places in the ne...

I've been here several times. The food is amazing, and it never fails to excite my taste buds. The service is typically accommodating (at best), save my most recent visit. Our wai...

consistantly bad 2/16/2007

We chose little giant because of the neighborhood, which we were interested in exploring. Most of the other places were packed last Thursday, so by default we ended up at little giant which I'd heard was uneven, but we felt glad to get a table in such bad weather. It was not uneven. It was in fact very even across the board.....just dreadful. The service was poor and they have a pricey minimum., boring food, small portions. more

Disappointing and not recommended 2/16/2007

Duck confit needs to be great, and Little Giant's version was eighty percent fat and overly salty. My friend has the chicken liver mousse, which had to be sent back. Cocktails small and VERY over priced. Poor dining experience, not recommended. Pros: none whatsoever Cons: food and price more

This place is the real deal!!! 2/9/2007

Got a recommendation from a friend to take a young lady to Little Giant if I really want to show her a good time. Well, I wanted to wait for the right girl. I finally went this week. right girl, right restaurant, right night! Everything was pretty close to perfect. What can I say? The food was killer, the tunes were rocking, the service made us feel comfortable right from the start, and the drinks loosened us up to have a really great night. My date dug it ...and me ; ) A great tip that I am happy to pass along to others: this is a great date spot. Pros: food, tunes, vibe, Cons: Not many more

do not go to little giant 2/8/2007

My wife and I were utterly embarressed to have taken our out of town guests to this disappointing place. The service was slow and the food was cold and expensive. It's rare to find such bad. Too bad, because the location/size of the joint is good. It's a poor man's Prune (NOT to be confused with a step down from Prune...because Little Giant is about twenty FLIGHTS below Prune). Pros: cute orange column Cons: cold food, bad service more

great! 2/5/2007

I love this place. I never write reviews (this is my first) and I'm a GUY...we don't just go home after dinner and write a cute review. However, I am compelled to do so because I had such a nice evening and have read all these nasty things on CitySearch (much to my surprise). Someone told me that CitySearch actually writes there own ""bad"" reviews if the corresponding restaurants dont pay them. Is that true? Isn't that weird? Anyway, try out the Little Giant. It is definitely a good date spot and the food is great. I didn't meet the owners but I heard they are sweet as pie. Pros: great food Cons: lower east side more

give it another aaaaa why don't you! 2/5/2007

Duh! You've already posted this one. it was only a month ago. Have you already forgotten? maybe it's hard to remember because you wrote it under another username. Aren't you sick of this little game yet? If not, it only serves as a testament to your stupidity. Get a life (or target another restaurant). If you've got an axe to grind Little Giant's phone number is listed. Call them. This is not what this site is for. You are doing a disservice to what could otherwise be a useful forum. more

Best ""starters"" ever 2/3/2007

I live on the upper east side, and make time at least 3 times a month to dine at the Little Giant. I absolutley love it because it makes me crave things! I go home thinking, ""geez, I NEED that pickle plate!"", and no, I'm not pregnant! The chicken liver mousse is outstanding and although I have only had one of the entrees (which was great-duck!), I still go back to enjoy the stunning ambience and welcoming attitude of the staff. I guess I would say that I am a ""regular"" at this point, but I normally don't write food comments like this (I've heard that this site is biased and that the owners write their own false comments). I just wanted to stand up and say how much I like this place; I can tell from some of the comments that they are a total joke, they talk about food that the restaurant hasn't served in a year! Hmmm....I wonder how political this site really is...kind of makes me sick. more

food lacking 1/26/2007

Not impressed. Over-priced drinks and the ""swine of the week"" was not prepared well, Finished off with\r sticky toffee pudding was ..sickly sweet. In general, over priced. I actually thought our server was refreshingly nice but the food just wasnt worth the price for taste and atmosphere. Pros: down-to-earth server Cons: over priced , pork was not good more

little giant is far more inspired than you!!!! 1/25/2007

wow! we thought it was odd when Little Giant started to receive a rash of reviews focusing on dishes they haven't served for almost two years. We also found it interesting that so many reviews focused on the exact same themes, often even using the same verbage ('uninspired' seems to be an ironic favorite). Now you've outdone yourselves...you have plagiarized an entire review from another website!!!! impressive work! Too bad it's from april of 2005 and they no longer serve a single item mentioned. 'A' for effort though. And the typos you've inserted really add something new. They make the review feel fresh again. You should be proud. Pros: great food and drinks, welcoming ambiance, warm knowledgeable service more

mediocre 1/25/2007

Kind of bland meal with prices too high for the lower east side. i've had better meals else where and cannot recommend LittleGiant. It;s hardly worth what you pay for and the vibe is better at the pickle shop down the street. Cons: the food is bad. more

ADVISE NOT EATING AT LITTLE GIANT (ever!) 1/17/2007

I smiled when I read the customer reviews of Little Giant because I agree that the place is positively dreadful . This is Manhattan...home to some of the best restaurants in world--from down home cooking to high end, to funky ethnic to chic and low key. \r \r Little Giant offers nothing. It's menu is uninspired, and the ingredients tasted like they were bought at Western Beef (including the vegetables!). Service was sloppy and slow, servings cold and small, the restaurant was unattractive, and the flavors were remarkably devoid of taste. Prices were high to boot. \r \r I am joining the consensus of people who not just had a bad meal there, but strongly advise avoiding this place at all costs. Pros: the column outside of the restaurant Cons: decor, food, price more

  • The Scene
The corner space is head-to-toe windows, beckoning diners to this otherwise deserted block. Pretty women in vintage dresses and dapper men in wool blazers and Chuck Taylors crowd around the small bar, sipping quartinos of wine or freshly shaken mojitos. Friendly servers struggle to keep the handful of tables turning, so waits can stretch.

    The Food
With dishes like "swine-o-the-week" and "box of rocks," owners and chefs Julie Taras and Tasha Garcia set a playful tone for their menu, but the hearty, meat lover-friendly dishes are anything but whimsical. Starters like grilled, sliced sausages--lamb, duck and pork--arrive sporting toothpicks for dipping into three savory homemade mustards; smooth, rich chicken liver mousse is smartly paired with sweet caramelized onions and figs for balance. Entrees are equally good, especially slow-cooked pork shoulder, tender and falling apart atop bright apple-cabbage slaw. Desserts shouldn't be missed, especially the caramel-y and slightly salty quince sticky toffee pudding.
