Fond memories of Peru 1/5/2009

We had just recently visited Peru, so after speaking with some people around Denver about the best Peruvian restaurants, we were referred to Limon. What an awesome experience. It reminded of just how amazing and flavorful Peruvian food really is. A few items on the menu were very traditional, which on a cold night was great (Lamb stew), the other people had tenderloin, which was great and our table also had the mahi dish. Service, ambience was great. We did not have a reservation and waited just a bit at the bar. The bartender was great about introducing some of our party to Pisco Sours and our favorite was the pineapple version, absolutely delicious. We will certainly be back soon, as Limon is now one of our favorites!!! more

why not. 11/22/2008

Cozy atmosphere, nice staff, but the food was surprisingly boring! Taste of salt. Uncooked corn tortillas with muscles?! Peruvian?! Lomo saltado... might as well change the intention of influence and submit to the Asian/ Latin style of cuisine. I would try many other restaurants again before returning here a second time. Pros: ambiance Cons: food is not exotic more

Best mojitos in Denver, food rocks!!! 8/16/2008

We were walking by and peeked in the window. Place looked cool so we tried it. Our server suggested a mojito and pisco (somethin'). I ended up having three mojitos. These are the best in Denver, period. I am a connossuer and must admit that this will be my place for drinks from now on. The food was also great. We had some appetizers that are foreign by name to me and a cebiche, which was amazing too. We shared the duck and it's better than in most French restaurants. Living in the neighborhood, I don't know why it took us so long to try Limon, but it is great, everyone should try it! Pros: Best mojitos in Denver! more

Great Peruvian food away from home 8/12/2008

A group of eight of us went to the restaurant based on a recommendation that this was a nice Peruvian nouvelle restaurant. Were we ever impressed. Spoke to the chef/owner and he seemed really in touch with Peruvian food, culture, ingredients, etc. Food was amazing, wine, pisco sours were very, very authentic. We scheduled another large party to attend since this is definetly now one of our favorites when we visit Denver. Service was impeccable and they have a private room for parties in the back of the restaurant. This experience really puts the restaurant on the level of some great places in Lima to eat. Go figure, who would have thought that Denver would have a small treasure away from home. Great job! Pros: Great Peruvian representation, wonderful food. more

Awesome Peruvian food 8/10/2008

We went here because on the way from P17 (which was not so good, blah food and service), we saw this really attractive restaurant. Did not know much about the food, however. We looked it up and it seems that it's a mixed bag, some people love it, some not, some just are ridiculous. So we tried it after chatting with friends, who are evidently regulars. So the three of us went on a weekday and it was pretty full, but we were greeted proptly, service was nice and the food is the shining star of this restaurant.\r \r Can't get anything like this anywhere in Denver, so now we know what the talk is about. Appetizers are small plates and great for sharing. The scallops with lime butter are amazing per the recommendation of our server. The pineapple mojito is also the BEST! Cant wait to go back and have them again. In general, this is a really sophisticated environment, perhaps a touch loud and dark. We will go again soon as on Tuesday they feature the pisco sours at half price. Pros: Fabulous mojitos!!! Cons: A bit too loud and dark more

Best Latin Food and happy hour 8/9/2008

4 of us went for dinner on Friday after reading a review from Denver Post. I guess the critic liked a lot! Thought we would try it finally. We've heard about the restaurant b4 but just did not make it in until now. The ceviches were incredible. The menu is limited, but had vegetarian options for us too. Nice wine selections, but the happy hour was great. We sat on the patio enjoying the drinks and variety of food for $5 until 7 pm. The trout really stood out as all of our favorites from the entrees. We were full for dessert. Service was precise, and very professional! We will be returning for sure to try the ice cream people next to us were raving about. Great experience!!! Pros: Peruvian food with a flare more

Do not waste your time or your money! There are too many great restaurants out there 8/9/2008

I have been to Limon on a few occasions and every time I am reminded of why this restaurant is a waste of time and money. I love to eat out and I understand the workings of a restaurant so I did give Limon the benefit of the doubt. The food had very little flavor and was not made with fresh ingredients. Not to mention it is way over priced. The owner is a rude, unintelligent, arrogant man with very little idea of how to treat people who are choosing to spend money in his establishment. All in all I really don't think you should support a place like this, especially since there are so many other great restaurants in Denver. Pros: The bartender Timothy was fantastic! He should move on Cons: Everything from the food to the Owner more

Nice Happy Hour 8/9/2008

I loved the selection of happy hour drinks and appetizers. Yesterday we sat on the patio until the monsoon downpour arrived. We were promptly given a table inside and the server even offered us a town to dry off. What a nice group Limon has Pros: Happy Hour, Server attention Cons: Not a completely covered patio more

Great Trout 8/9/2008

I have had trout before and it has always been the whole fish. This time it was two perfectly cooked filets with no head and not bones. The wine was a good combination and the little bit of kick in the banana puding was great. My favorate part was the licuma ice cream that sat atop of our puding, what an interesting bunch of flavors this place has. Pros: The Trout and Bread Puding Cons: Its not open for lunch more

Best place to start with a Happy Hour and wind up staying for dinner 8/9/2008

We stopped by for a cocktail (try the pineapple mojito) and discovered the amazing appetizer selection. The ceviche sampler was outstanding, and the duck entre my husband ordered was out of this world. A fantastic little restaurant...we will be back. more

Great experience 8/8/2008

First time tonight. I took a group of friends from work and we decided to let the sever pick what each of us would have. He did not dissapoint, and he paired different wine for each of us as well. We will be back!\r more

Not Even A One Star 8/6/2008

If there was a No Star option on the rating scale I would have chosen it. We arrived tonight, a Thursday at 5pm as the doors opened. We were the only people there, 2 adults and 1 child. When our server came to greet us at our table we noticed he slurred a little. I assumed at first he had a speech impediment. The speech impediment turned out to be too much alcohol in his system. The fumes that came out of his mouth as he slurred a welcome to us was overwhelming. We decided to overlook it and hope that he would be pulled aside and that someone (another server) would step in. No such luck. \r The server asked to take our order. He couldn't find a pen so after fumbling for a pen for a while he picked up a knife from our table..yes, a knife, and proceeded to ""write"" in his order pad. A few mins later he came back to take our order again- w/out a pen. We gave our order again. Beef Filet and Trout. 5 mins later he came back to ask again about our order. He asked my husband about his choice ""the tuna"". We reminded him it was the Trout. He said they were out of that even though they just opened for the day and it was on the menu. We ordered Risotto instead. An hour after being seated our food came out-Risotto and Ahi Tuna-I ordered Filet not Tuna. The man couldn't get out a complete sentence so it's no wonder the order wasnt right. I said I would just take the tuna since now my husband had to leave for a meeting in 5 mins. They thankfully took the tuna off the bill. After waiting for the server to find a pen for 5 minutes to take our order, 30mins for our starters to arrive (keep in mind we were the only people in the restaurant and 1 hour before our incorrect order came out, our bill came out while we were still eating our dessert and surprise! a pen was found to ensure I could sign my credit card receipt. Amazing what even a drunk man can do when it's time to be paid. We will never go back to this place, what a joke. Manager needs a new title, he's not managing at all. Pros: There's only one Limon Cons: It's still open more

Running on Fumes 6/20/2008

This place was great (supposedly) last year or the year before, but left us seriously lacking when we finally made it there for dinner tonight. The drinks were questionable, and the food tasted like soaked saltines. Literally. I know you probably think that is some sort of bloated exageration spawned from a mildly inadequate fare, but it literally tasted like nothing. We told the server this, and nothing was done but an offering of an equally bland dessert. We weren't looking for a free meal, just one that tasted like something. In this Limon failed, and if you're intersted in food, the seven eleven across the street might be a better alternative. Pros: area Cons: food more

Good unique food, and wine that pairs well 5/15/2008

Went to Limon on a Thursday evening, so not very crowded. Food was very good; some of the best ceviche in Denver (esp the traditional [sea bass]). Although not hot-spicey, there were a lot of good flavors and spices in the entrees. The wines (the couple we tried -one white, one red) went very well with the food, and the server was able to talk to the wines. Ambience was also nice. Definitely intend to return to try other dishes. Pros: Different flavors, decent wine list to accompany Cons: Didnt have any more

Inconsiderate & Inattentive to Clientele 4/14/2008

Unfortunately I have never felt compelled to write a review until now. A group of us (7), friends and family agreed to try Limon, made a reservation and when we arrived we were told it would be a few minutes. About 20 minutes later we were told it was going to be a bit longer and we were offered to wait at the bar for cocktails. We did and realized another 35 minutes quickly passed without anyone updating us on the status of our wait. When we asked how much longer it would be we were told that they were getting a table ready at that moment. From the moment we arrived until we received our food (extremely famished) we had been waiting for over 1 1/2 hrs. Service was slow, a couple orders were incorrect and even forgotten and there was no apology. We had asked to speak to the manager and in return we were greeted with incredible rudeness and in such an unprofessional manner. We enjoyed the food but not delectable enough to return to a long wait and a place where the owner does not appreciate his customers. Pros: Decent place to try Peruvian cuisine Cons: Only if you are willing to pay a price for it and if service is not a factor more

Fantastic experience - Great wine, great food, reasonable prices 4/2/2008

My wife and I went on our anniversary, and were thoroughly impressed. Their wine list is a lot of great South American and Spanish wines (go on Monday for half-price on the wine). We had a great Malbec. The food was awesome. I highly recommend the Cebiche dishes. I don't like prawns, and loved the prawn cebiche. The lamb stew was excellent (almost a Middle Eastern flavor to it). The duck that my wife ordered was cooked perfectly, seasoned immaculately, and presented deliciously. Excellent food, excellent service, we're definitely going back! Pros: Great food, great service, great atmosphere, wonderful jazz music Cons: I don't live right next door to go there every day!! more

Always delicious and fabulous service! 3/28/2008

Limon is my new favorite restaurant not just in Denver, but anywhere! The service is wonderful and the food is always incredible. I just recently tried a Pisco Sour...delish! I always order the Tiradito's wonderfully seasoned with great, fresh fish. I highly recommend Limon! more

Great knowledgeable server and great food! 3/13/2008

I dined at Limon for the first time last Friday with my wife. We ablsolutely loved everything that our server informed us about. We had a group of ceviches which were all individually unique and the presentation was excelent as well. For our main courses we had the Ahi tuna and the pork chop. I had never had a brined piece of pork before this occation so at first I was hessitant. Our sever assured me that it would be fabulous and he did not disapoint. This is deffinately a date style restaurant. Formal feeling but yet casual once you dig in. A nice low lit place with an excellent selection of Jazz. We will be back! Pros: Great flavors and service Cons: None that we saw more
