If You Haven't Been, Check It Out 8/9/2011

I used to live in East Village.. just a random two month sublet but I was literally living around the corner from Lil Frankie's. It's a cool spot, especially if you love dirty-south banging hip-hop music and Italian food. The food was always delicious... one time I was there and we were having drinks and just placed our order, only to witness a giant cockroach crawling down the wall next to our table. We kind of freaked out because we just ordered food.. so we left that time. But you have to expect that everywhere in NYC there is a chance you will see a cockroach or a rat so I only took one star off.. And I've eaten there since and it was great. I mean the food was always delicious and the vibe is cool. It's a place you have to go if you've never been. more

Pasta and Pizza 12/14/2010

Never a let down. The mini meatballs are some of the best i ever had. I always enjoy the pizza and they have a great wine list. The price is right thats why i keep going back. more

great find 5/27/2009

sure beats the same kind of joint three of cups is down the road. this place knows what its doing when it comes to pizza and milanese. yummy. try it sometime, you won't be disappointed. Pros: pizza Cons: crowded more

This place is bad 3/3/2009

Our waiter was ok, after burning my arm with their hot place (which scarred) he gave us a free round of drinks. My friend ate a mussel that she thought had some sort of spices on it, turns out it was some sort of discusting stuff that literally tasted like a word i can say on here! And the food-blah. Pros: ambience Cons: food and clumsy waiters! more

Decent food, AWFUL SERVICE 2/20/2009

Went here on a Friday afternoon when there was only one other table and had terrible service - the guy spills beer on the table, he took more than 10 minutes to bring a coke to the table, and what should have been a 45 minute lunch turned into an hour and a half fiasco...and to top it off they included a 20% gratuity! CHUTZPAH! The pizza was fine, but I imagine you can find better within a 4 block radius. The pasta was quite good, but not worth getting robbed by the waitstaff. 20% to take a half an hour to get the beer and then to spill it on us?!?! Come on... Pros: Pasta Cons: Service more

best pizza downtown 12/30/2008

Nice place, awful service 4/7/2008

I went to this restaurant this past weekend. I sat outside, it was beautiful on Saturday. I waited a good 15-20 minutes w/no service. No water, nothing. I got up to leave. A really nice bartender said I should stay because the food was really good & I thought the outside porch was just really quaint. She even came & checked on me later. Pros: Nice quaint feel to the restaurant. Great outside area with heater. Cons: Service more

Decent 3/31/2008

Went to Lil frankies this weekend for dinner for a b-day party. We did get a good table and did not have to sit in the front which looked pretty bad since people were everywhere and it felt very crowded. The waiter was kind of rude but decent. The salads were not good. it seemed as tho there was no dressing on any of them. The spinach was great as was the pizza. The entrees were so so. We did have to ask 4 times to get water refilled for the table and it also took at least 20 minutes to get a check. All in all it was a good time, but not the best. Luckily it isnt all that expensive. Just be prepared to wait a bit on the service. Pros: Pizza was great Cons: service was spotty more

feels like home 2/9/2008

I don't know how it started, but I made a habit of making lil' frankie's my solo dinner spot. I go in and order a glass of wine and relax. I usually order whatever pasta special they have... A whole pizza is hard to finish by yourself. The food is simple and delicious. The service can be slow but that's fine by me because I never feel rushed to order, or rushed to leave (even though it's always crowded). As a ""solo diner"", I often feel neglected by restaurants, or urged to eat and leave quickly to free up the table for another party, which is understandable, but I'm impressed that that sort of attitude doesn't exist at Lil' Frankie's. It's comforting. Pros: ravioli, relaxed atmosphere, reasonably priced Cons: sometimes too crowded more

Little Frankies is Big! 1/12/2008

I stumbled into little Frankies by chance one night and glad i did so, straight away the atmosphere was engaging and the buzz was great, from the interior design to the little rooms all with their different personality's. The staff, very friendly and helpful which leaves me to comment on the food, great!! I have the calamari often which is fantastic, the menu is very simple which i find key to a successful restaurant as many try to over complicate their menus. Pizzas at Little Frankies are one of the best cooked in a wood oven which in my opinion is the way! I have nothing bad to say about Frankies. Weekends can get busy so book in advance the wait can take 20 minuets if you walk in but there is a bar where you can wait. more

Lil' Frankies is AMAZING! 10/23/2007

The food is delicious and addictive, hence why the majority of east villagers are regulars here. The crowds have caught on, so pull up a chair and eat at the bar if you are too hungry to wait. The candlelit atmosphere, indie-rock music and cute staff give this place a real east village charm. Order from the specials- the buratta (imported fresh from Italy) and ricotta di bufala appetizers are amazing, as are their pizzas, strip steak, and pasta dishes? I could go on and on! Make sure to save room for the nutella dessert! Their brunch is a hidden gem? never a wait and always delicious. Wallet, celebrity and child friendly, this place is an all around winner. Even my grandma is a fan. Pros: Delicious food, Great atmosphere, Kitchen open late Cons: Specials run out early, Long waits on weekends more

bad all around 10/17/2007

terrible...but pretty...the food was very bland (we had two pasta dishes and pizza) even the pizza which it's known for was bad. If you want pizza go to john's if you want good pasta go to Frank's (lil' Franks brothers place). The staff was bored and rude. would never go back. Pros: it was pretty Cons: everything else more

good pizza , stupid staff 9/26/2007

Great thin crust pizza , rude staff. Very loud music. Love lil' frankies, but my waiter seemed uninterested and smug. Pros: Pizza Cons: rude server more

Very good thin crust pizza 6/6/2007

The pizza here is true to its Italian roots - not too many toppings, and none of the generic pies you would find in one of New York's innumerable pizza shops. Instead, the crust is super light and flavorful, with just the right amount of chewiness. And the toppings are just right - we went with the basic Margherita pizza, and it was divine. Pros: Honest servers who tell you what's good and what's not more

Mouth gets a treat! Ears are tortured!!! 4/26/2007

The food here is awesome! The kind you get cravings for and have to go back. Except, glad to see someone has mentioned the ear-blasting, conversation-hindering music!! It's really becoming a deterrent. I don't know if there's a genre called METAL-RAP, but i feel like i experienced it at full blast at my last visit. I'm all for East Village Cool, but someone needs to rein it in. Owners, if you read this stuff, PLEASE TURN IT DOWN and tell whoever's in charge to listen to their tunes on their own time, not while paying customers are trying to have a conversation and enjoy the delicious work of the chefs!! more

Food: Heavenly. Music: Hellish 4/26/2007

So unlike the one of the previous posters, I ain't so young. But like that poor sap, I too was tortured by the wall of drums 'n bass ?music? that assaulted me when I attempted to enjoy my repast at my fave resto, Lil Frankies. When I asked for the music to be turned down, the person in charge of said cacophony suggested I remove myself to another room of the restaurant. Another employee also gave me relocation as an option. I'm not asking that they play Muzak, but come on, drums 'n bass-slash-relentless-rap?? Really?? Is that what the kids are listening to as they sip their pinot noir, and eat their white pizzas with truffle oil??? Please LF, stop terrorizing your patrons with that music and play something with a melody. more

BEST PIZZA AND ITALIAN BY FAR!!! In the city. 2/28/2007

By far the best Italian rest. in the city for your money. Don't waste your money going anywhere else!!!! Must try the zucc. sticks and eggplant!!! A MUST!!! Tasty Pizza also! Moved here a few years ago and always recommend this and any of the sister rest. (Frank's or Supper) parents loved Supper!! BY FAR A MUST!!! YUMMY YUMMY!!! Only bad thing I can say is be ready to wait on the weekends though! more

Awesome Pizza, Great, Authentic Food! 1/1/2007

Freshness and Wood buring oven can only mean one thing - Great food and outstanding Pizza! Pros: Eggplant, Pizza Cons: Cash only more

TURN DOWN THE MUSIC !!!! 11/17/2006

Look I am young.. I love megadeth too but dear god I dont want to hear it full blast at a restaurant. TURN DOWN THE MUSIC IN THE DINING area. The same folks that own this place, own Supper and all they care about is making the cash--which if they are not careful someone will report you to the IRS!!! I think they must treat their wait staff like ingrades because they are some of the rudest folks in the city. I've experienced and heard from friends that they refuse to listen to the pleas of their paying customers especially about the music. Cons: THE WAIT STAFF AND THE MUSIC AND THE AMBIENCE more

My NYC Favorite... 10/9/2006

The last two times that I have been in NYC I have been to FRANK (1st trip) then Lil Frankie's... and both are equally wonderful and charming in their own ways. I do prefer Lil Frankies - probably because it is roomier and the waiters are CUTE! We were there on a Sat. night at 8:30 ish and didn't have to wait too long (maybe 30 minutes?) .... the ambiance was great... the waiter was attentive and the food was FAB... we had Lil Frankies salad... which was to die for... then splite some pizzas and Gnocci and topped it all off with the homemade Tiramasu (it doesnt get any better than this recipe). more
