Good Drinks, Good People 4/7/2011

I came here on a whim one Saturday night with a handful of friends who were fried after finals. One friend was actually getting over stomach flu at the time but a total trooper in coming out, so in honor of her feeling less than great, we all dressed a little down in jeans and hoodies. Surprisingly, this wasn't much of a problem when we got into the Library Bar. The bar was pretty active when we got inside. It's spacious too so it didn't seem crowded and it was easy to find a comfortable couch. Bartenders were friendly and we were all pretty happy with our drinks. There was also a really friendly atmosphere that I liked, where you could talk and have fun with total strangers or keep it a little more tight-knit with your own group if you wanted. A cool place to hang out overall and a watering hole that can appeal to a lot of different people. more

Rude bartender! 12/15/2009

I showed up last Friday to meet some co workers after our holiday party. They had already been there, and sure they had spend enough money, this place isnt very cheap. Sure its nice, but what came next, made it such an ugly place for me. I got my first beer, wasnt even halfway with it, when the bartender came to our group and told us to ""TONE IT DOWN""! Pros: None that I found more

Quaint little bar to enjoy a few drinks after work. The atmosphere is very intimate and relaxing. And the bartenders are really nice more

Happy Hour 2/11/2008

A few of out of state clients ,co-workers,and I went for happy hour.It was thursday evening and fairly crowded.Drinks are great and service was good too. It's a great place to go right after a long day at work. Pros: Great Place For Happy Hour Cons: Downtown Traffic more

Great Happy Hour; Cozy Vibe 1/15/2008

I like the happy hour choice of $5 margaritas or martinis. It gets pretty crowded on a Thursday with all the downtown people coming in for drinks after work. It is pretty crowded at the bar so it takes a while to get a drink but overall it is a good spot to hang out with your friends. Get there early to save a spot on the couches near the fireplace. more

Great Space, not crowed 10/12/2007

Drinks are good its never over crowded and you can order food from next door! Also love the decor it eaven has a private room you can reserve. Pros: Nice seating Cons: smallish.... more

small and intimate. 9/12/2007

The library bar is in a great location. You have other options to choose from including The Standard across the street, Elevate Lounge around the corner, etc. Pros: design, location, books, parking ($5 with valet underground next door) Cons: i sat next to a homeless guy who wouldn't stop talking to me. nice guy, but needed a shower more

timing is everything 7/20/2007

After work there are a lot of the older business folks in here, and later at night there are a lot of dudes that couldn't get into the standard. I liked this place before all of the downtown male population discovered the undiscerning door policy, and I stopped liking it when I realized all of them had just come to oogle the bartenders. The crowd is really what keeps this place down; last time I was here, there was a couple sleeping in the back room (the one with a mirror on the ceiling). I love the jukebox though, and I feel like every time I'm here, someone plays Roxanne. Pros: beer list, roxanne Cons: no girls more

wine list? who needs it? 7/2/2007

I will be honest: I don't usually pick beer as my drink of choice when I go to a bar. In fact, I wouldn't usually stop at a place like this, being slightly intimidated by its mature, business-man style look. However, a couple of my friends work downtown and invited me out for dinner and drinks after work, suggesting we try Library Bar because they had heard so much about it, and one of them had gone for a beer tasting event there. Pros: ambience, bartenders' knowledge Cons: gets crouded... but is that really a con? more

Almost as many beers as books! 6/28/2007

I just checked out Library Bar last Sat., and I have to say it's one of the new favorites personally. For anyone who appreciates the finer beers, this is it. Arrogant Basterd, Chimay, Three Philosopher's etc. You have to check out the list. It's like a mashup between BevMo and the library. They've got seats and booths with walls lined with all kinds of books to browse through. One of the servers was a little slower in identifying just which beers I wanted to try, but she was probably new. And, all of the the staff was very friendly and glad to help. I wish all libraries were like this! Pros: Beer Selection. Unique Decor. Nice Staff. more

More More More..... 4/29/2007

Library Bar is one of those cool types of places that keep you wanting more. You walk into the sultry atmosphere where a beautiful ""Tyson"" look a like checks to see your legal status. Depending on when you go, you can find a laywer that needs to get the edge off, a salesman who is ""here on business"", or a local who finds knitting and sipping on a single malt at the Library is what fills her needs. Pros: Major Thumbs Up!!!! more

GREAT BARTENDERS GREAT PLACE 2/19/2007

I went here with a friend on feb 16 (fri) and had a rockin time. I heard all about this place and had to come see for myself. It is unlike any other bar in town. The bartenders were good looking and helpful when it came to choosing my ale. It got really crowded and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I highly rec. this place it's a nice escape from the hollywood bar scene. more

cozy, but not too small, upscale bar for downtown grownups. 2/15/2007

i love this bar. after visiting all the echo park/silverlake nouveau-mullet hipster bars, this is refreshingly grown up and sophisticated. great bartenders, an intimate feel with lots of places to sit, drink and converse. i will be a regular here. Pros: close to pucks, echo park, silverlake. freeway. decor, drinks, ambience. Cons: street parking is about a blcok away, not good for females in that hood, and no valet. more

Very cool atmosphere 1/13/2007

This place recently opened and it seems to be popular already amongst the downtown happy hour crowd, we actually left last night because it was too crowded. The bar is solid marble, all the seating is very comfortable and the TV is not the prominent feature which is so rare. The beer selection is top notch but not very wide. Service is great if you are sitting at the bar, but drops off dramatically the further you get from the bartenders. Overall this is our new favorite bar downtown, just wish they had a smoking patio. Pros: cozy, cool vibe, beer selection Cons: service when crowded, not open early enough more
