Liberty Bell Center 2/25/2006

The Liberty Bell Center is excellently designed, mainly because it forces visitors to filter through an interpretation center explaining the history of what they are about to see. The cracked bell and all those wonderful photo opportunities are available in the rear of the building, but be aware that you have to go through security before being admitted to the center. Most people who visit here then move on to the Independence Hall tour, but be warned that you need free but timed tickets available at the visitors' center. more

The Famous Liberty Bell 8/18/2005

The famous Liberty Bell with its crack is displayed in a glass pavillion in the historic center of Philadelphia conveniently located next to the Constitution Center and Independence Hall. The Liberty Bell was most famously rung during the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence. The glass pavillion displays the bell in a striking fashion and gets you get arms' length from it - close enough to study its crack and read the inscription. The site can be quite crowded on holiday weekends or around July 4th so it's worth trying to see on an weekday or off weekend day (ie, not the 4th or Labor Day). more
