Doesn't matter who I ask, if you're a foodie, living in the Twin Cities, you're in love with Levain. The place is amazing, with dishes that seem inspired by angels, service that is discreet yet helpful, and an atomosphere that demands attention, in that "I'm really proud to be here, I hope someone I know sees me" way.
A lot of the dishes at Levain are seasonal. Which is great because you always have a variety to choose from, and will never get bored throughout the year, and it reflects the chef's dedicationto using in season, quality ingredients. I'm not a lamb fan, but the rack of lamb is phenomenal, and I really enjoyed it. It had olives, I think, which was such a unique mediterranean touch. The polenta there was fabulous too, and some of the best I've had ever.
Levain is so near perfect, that the only complaint I have about it is that I don't get to eat there all the time, but it's reserved strictly for special occasions.
