I have been going to Donna B. for 20 years now. I continue to be impressed with her creativity, perfectionism and friendliness. She is not only great with haircuts, but also with color. I have gotten so many compliments over the years on her work and will continue on with Donna for many more years! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 7/7/2013

Donna has done my hair for 17 years. I love the care she takes with me. She listens to what I want and is up-to-date on styles and products. I am happy she is back at Leepin Lizards because the atmosphere there is relaxed, yet professional, and fun. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 11/13/2012

I love my hair, and I have Marilyn at Leepin' Lizards to thank for it. It's a short, sassy style. Somehow she consistently makes the haircut work, even though I have very difficult hair to cut. The salon is professional, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend this salon. more

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/24/2012

I've also gone to Leepin Lizards for years..... left, and come back because no one else has come close to the genuine friendliness, professionalism, and talent that I have found with Donna. The bonus now is their location in the Goose Hollow neighborhood in an old house....close in, yet in a part of Portland that has a mix of old and young energy. more

Professional hair styling in a classy, vintage ambiance. 12/2/2011

Donna has been cutting my hair for years. I always get tons of compliments about my hair, and I appeciate the relaxed, low-key vibe at Leepin' Lizards. What I like best is that I can relax, look out the window and chat while Donna works her magic - I usually forget I'm having my hair cut! more

Best haircut for men? 9/28/2009

Marilyn has been cutting my hair for years. She is the most intuitive stylist I have ever had the pleasure of knowing - I'm always changing my ""look"" and she somehow just goes there. I now come to Portland from Bellingham, WA to have her cut my hair. Pros: Yes, I think Marilyn provides the best cut I have had. Cons: Can't think of one. more

I heart Jamie! 8/29/2009

All I know is, every time I leave Leepin' Lizards after seeing Jamie, people want to know where I get my hair cut. Plus, he just rocks, and makes me feel fabulous! Pros: Being the girl who always gets compliments on my hair. Cons: Good hair, good company, and puppies... what cons? more

Best color 7/17/2009

Marilyn knows color; I get many comments on how natural my color is and honestly, it's gray through and through, but Marilyn whips it into a stylish and youthful patina of gold and bronze. Reasonable prices, too. Pros: color; weave more

Awesome place!!!! 4/6/2009

This place is the best! Carlos just saved my hair!!!! It looks great and I actually had fun! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Rockin' Haircut 2/1/2009

K, my hair is awesome right now and it's because of this place. I randomly called after seeing it on 21st and liking the look of it. Finally went in and got one of the best haircuts I've ever had. It's one of those cuts where you almost get sick of your friends constantly pointing it out. The gal's name is Rachel. If you're a guy and you want an awesome cut, go see her, you won't be disappointed. more

I love my hair again!!! 12/3/2008

My old stylist is back in town and I couldn't be happier! After years of seeing Rachel at Blades, I was devastated when I heard she was leaving town for awhile. She is the only stylist that has ever really listened to what I wanted and was always consistent with my hair. While she was gone, I tried about 4 different stylists but had no success. I was thrilled when I found out that she was back in town and working at Leepin Lizards! So, of course I immediately made an appointment with her for a cut and color. The results were, once again fantastic! I finally feel cute again! It even looks great when I don't style it! Thanks so much Rachel! more

It's been hard to find a great colorist for the buttery blonde highlights I am looking for, Until NOW! Casandra took time and really got what I was looking for. She gave me the best color I've ever had and is a true artist. She was personable and professional, without chargeing an arm and a leg. The cut and highlight was only $125, it normally cost me so much more. If you are looking for a colorist look no further then Casandra at Leepin' Lizards. You well truely be happy. more

Best salon ever! 8/11/2008

Hmmmm... so weird to read anything bad about this place. I have been coming here for YEARS and have yet to have anything but the best experiences here. I see Marilyn and she ROCKS at short hair! Everyone I see around me with their new 'do's look fantastic, and it's a great place with an awesome vibe. These folks are artists, and they create for and look after you like no where else. I say try it and you will have found your hairdo home! more

i walked in a few months ago to get a haircut and they got my in right away.. i brought 2 pictures of what i wanted... i wanted to have a haircut that was short on one side and got longer as it went back to the other side. i go to school at the aveda institute, and know that this haircut isn't that difficult to do with a pair of shiears.\r \r but what did the guy do?\r he took a mens CLIPPER and clipper cut the side of my head! and there was no connection and my hair from the side looked like a mullet. it was a really really bad experience. i was horrified sitting in the chair. not to mention i paid money and didnt even get the courtesey of a shampoo with my hair!\r i left, in tears.\r this place is aweful! :( more

My hairstylist works magic with my thinning hair ! 4/30/2008

I'm in my mid 30's and my hair is slowly starting to thin. This was starting to frustrate me because most stylists either try and convince me to shave my head or get a military cut or they try and sell me on a bunch of gels, creams, shampoos, ect. that is either supposed to magically regrow my hair or that's supposed to make it look like I've got more hair. \r \r I went to Leepin' Lizards and had my hair styled by Donna Brown. My hair's still about 80% there (compared to my teens) and at 35 years old I still want a rock n roll style cut. My favorite hair style is a rockabilly pompadour (early Elvis style) and this requires that I have a lot of hair to comb up and pile on my head (like the band, The Straycats.) \r \r When I told Donna what I wanted to do with my hairstyle, she said ""no problem!"" She didn't try and get me to go with a shaved down style and she didn't try and sell me a bunch of products that either don't work or that I don't need.\r \r She cut my hair into a perfect pompadour and it's hardly even noticeable that my hair is even thinning. I've already had a few people that I run into on a regular basis (grocery store cashier, coffee shop barista, doorman at the nightclub, ect.) comment that my hair looks really cool.\r \r Donna also colored my hair (blonder) which made it really tough to see my scalp through the thinner parts (normally, that's a problem for me.)\r \r All in all the experience was very cool and I'm not planning on ever going anywhere else because I've FINALLY found a hairstylist who can work with problem hair and still make me look more rock n roll !\r \r Also, the salon reminds me of the new wave salons of the 1980s (decor and the music they're playing) and Donna's obviously still in touch with the alternative music scene and she can do any of the latest cuts that I've seen on college rock bands nowadays. I'm very sold on Leepin' Lizards and on having Donna as my hairstylist. Pros: Great music, cool salon and works magic with thinning hair! more

Great cut, really nice people, cool salon... a trifecta! 12/2/2007

I had been going to another stylist for several years and had been dissatisfied, so I started looking for a new one. I read the reviews on Citysearch and decided to try Leepin' Lizards Hari Place out. WOW!!!! \r \r I have short hair and like to be able to put a little ""paste"" in my hands and rub it through my hair, comb and finger style and go.... I can do that now. My hair looks so good, and I love the style. I could not be happier and I am so pleased that I read the reviews and made the appointment. \r \r I saw Marilyn, the owner, and she listened to my desired and complaints about my previous stylist. She translated my vague desires into a great cut that is easy to do, and I look fabulous in my new style\r \r I would HIGHLY recommend Leepin' Lizards Hair Place to anyone. \r Pros: great cut, easy to get into, reasonable prices more

Extremely Professional 10/8/2007

Leepin Lizards is a true ""gem"" of the NW Portland scene.Tucked in between two great boutques, the salon offers the best of both worlds. At my appointment,I observed several different walks of life having their hair done. The gal sitting in the chair on my right was a child advocate and more on the conservative side,on my left a young hipster was having her locks coloured a lovely shade of purple. The stylist I was working with(Jeremy) knew I was looking for something new and presented me with several options and I am still TOTALLY pleased with my new cut and color. And I have to say ,he is very reasonably priced for his talent. If your new in town or just tired of the same old thing, give this place a try. Pros: Staff, prices, professionalism Cons: Parking in NW(YUK) more

best hair stylist 5/23/2007

perhaps one of the most traumatic parts of moving to a new place is finding a hair stylist who you like.\r you start asking - stopping people on the street - ""who does your hair?????"" it took me awhile. at last i have\r found my person - and now people are always asking me ""who does your hair?""\r \r go to leaping lizards - don't be put off by the funky street design or eclectic art that hangs on the walls.\r it is portland afterall - and the staff knows their craft. the owner marilyn devine and her crew run a tight ship -\r treat their clients with respect - and deliver.\r \r i was impressed from the very beginning. i had been going to a fellow who just went through the motions - no ideas, no energy, no nothing. he was bored and so was i. i needed a change. i met marilyn briefly before my first appointment. when i arrived, she presented me with different magazine options - she actually had\r taken the time to think about me, my hair, my sense of style, and what might look good on me. wow.\r i was immediately smitten. and yes, she continues to be engaged - always present and listening.... i recommend her without reservation. \r Pros: yes, friendly, knowledgeable, patient, good humor, listens Cons: parking sometimes a challenge on 21st more

best cuts/colors for women's short hair ever 5/17/2007

It usually takes me two-three years to find a decent hair dresser (i.e., cutter) when I relocate to a place. This time, when I returned to Portland after a 20-year absence (don't ask!), the wife of a friend suggested I try Marilyn at Leapin' Lizards. Since the salon is right around the corner from where I live, I tried it out. That was three years ago, and I have never looked back. First time out of the shop, every time out of the shop, a miracle. Not only does it look good right then, but it continues to look good right up until the 6-week oh-my-god-I-need-a-haircut point. If you have short and/or problem-esque hair, Marilyn Divine (the owner) is for you! She also does my color right, and the same every time. Plus she is fun and smart (she does improv on the side, so there's always something interesting to talk about). Try this out -- you won't be disappointed. Pros: edgy artsy ambience, great staff Cons: well, it's in NW, so take the trolley already (don't even try to park) more

Friendly people, awful cut 5/7/2007

I went to the salon last week after reading these reviews. Walking in I thought there was a very cool vibe and I enjoyed chatting with the stylists. My stylist was very friendly, but I left in tears with the cut. I usually have funky layers, but somehow I ended up looking way too short and bland. My hair just falls to my head without any personality. Product helps, but it still looks awful. I am so sad having to let it grow out again. After visiting another salon, I was told there wasn't much they could do w/o making it much shorter (and then why have hair at all?). They were able to fix my uneven bangs, though...thankfully. \r \r Unless you are referred to a specific stylist, and have seen their work, I wouldn't take my chances. I wish I had thought to get the name of the woman who cut my hair. Pros: cool salon, beverages, reasonable price Cons: awful cut, unattentive stylist, didn't listen to my request more
