Chai is fabulous! Not only is she an amazing Hairstylist ... 7/12/2011

Chai is fabulous! Not only is she an amazing Hairstylist / Colorist, but she is also a Personal Wardrobe Stylist! I was referred to Chai by a friend and she totally rocked out my highlights and cut. I was nervous because it was my first time, but she made me feel totally at home. She's stylish and fun and full of real conversation. None of the boring professional stiff stuff. She mentioned to me that she also offers Personal Wardrobe Styling so I took her up on the offer and hired her to help me revamp my style. She came to my house and went straight to work. Not only was it totally reasonable, she made sure that she left me with all of the tips and tricks on how to do it myself. All in all, I found my new Hairstylist/Colorist and my new Personal Stylist. She's so hands on and accessible via email or text to answer any questions that I may have regarding make up, fashion or hairstyles. What more can you ask for, its like a one stop shop. Chai you are truly the best, thank you so much for changing my life. xoxo Sending all of my new mom friends your way! more

A GREAT experience once again with Chai! 3/10/2011

I went to see Chai for Hilites and a haircut and I kid you not, my hilites always look like they're growing right out of my scalp. Her technique is precise and accurate, yet really quick. more

Went here as a hair model with Chai.... She's amazing! 2/8/2011

I read this ad online about a Stylist looking to update her look book and was seeking hair models. I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty nervous because I was a hair model before and all didn't go so well. Needless to say, Chai was fantastic. Not only did she ROCK my high lights she threw in an amazing cut. Fixing the previous mistakes done by someone else. I feel like I discovered a treasure. I was only charged for the product which was nothing and in return I received amazing treatment by the staff, I've met my new Hairstylist, and I referred my boyfriend and he is equally happy to have found her. Chai you ROCK girl, watch out I'm sending all my friends your way! Can't wait to go back.... more

I found CHAI! So Happy! 12/13/2010

OMG! I found Chai in the weirdest way. I called Le Chandelier on 5th Ave and asked for an appointment with Chai. She's been doing my hair for the past 4 years. Only to be told that she's gone and they had no idea where she went. Found that odd, cause if you know this girl, she's extremely loyal to her craft. Just don't see her up and leaving after all that time with no forwarding info. Strange enough, the owner of this place offered to do my hair at a discounted rate. Found that really odd, this woman has never said hello to me in the four years I've been coming. After a little research, I found that Chai works at Le Petit Chandelier after taking a chance of calling to see if they knew where she was. To my my great delight and surprise Chai answered the phone. How great is that?!!! Needless to say, after an amazing head of high and low lights and an even more fabulous cut, I left feeling beautiful as always and my husband loved it as well. Sorry to be so wordy, but that is the extent of my happiness that I've found her. If you had your hair done by this woman you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't yet, then I suggest you try her out. You won't be disappointed!.... Absolutely love you CHAI! see ya soon! P.S. this place is way nicer. The owner greets you and engages you in conversation as well as all of the staff. I feel like I found a best kept secret, and just two blocks away from the old place. Heaven! more

The best Highlights and Haircut ever....... 11/13/2010

Chai called me and let me know that she no longer works at Le Chandelier, but she is working 2 blocks away at Le Petit Chandelier. The place is gorgeous and the energy there is way better. Anyhoo, I was able to get in at short notice for my highlights and cut, which always turns out amazing. If you're in need of fast and efficient hair color/cuts,or just good laughs, Chai is your gal. more

worth the trip 6/17/2009

when i can't get an appointment with tara at the 5th avenue shop, i walk a little further.....she's been cutting my hair for a dozen years. after the first few times, i just said "" i trust you, just cut my hair"". great cuts for men. Pros: unpretentious more

Pros: great service more

Worth the walk from the Slope 6/22/2008

Have to admit, was a bit annoyed when they opened this offshoot of ""Le Chandelier"" down below the 4th Avenue. Was concerned they would lose clientele and the location is not ideal (across the road from a mob hangout). But still Tara and Joanne do the same thing there as anywhere - friendly, unpretentious but still really modern. Both of them know exactly how to cut and style - Tara is an expert on colour, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. I used to go to a really expensive place in the Meatpacking District which would take me the best part of a day to get full highlights, cut and color. But with Jo and Tara, I get exactly the same thing and a fraction of the time and cost. I'll follow you anywhere, ladies. Pros: Expert coloring, not pretentious, reasonable prices Cons: Not on 5th Ave! more

last minute haircut 1/9/2007

I needed a haircut badly, but with the busy season behind me, never got the time. I usually get my haircut in manhattan and was visiting brooklyn. My girlfriend had an appointment at le petit chandelier and asked her sytlist to fit me in. To my surprise i came out looking very up to date and the best part is they did not put a lot of junk in my hair. Guess I'm sold. p.s. very relaxing atmosphere, no pressure, no frills, very professional and friendly. Pros: quiet place, XM raido, great hair washer, great stylist Cons: not a lot of things to do on 3rd avenue afterwards more

Love Le Petit!!! 12/30/2006

Pros: fantastic service, beautiful salon Cons: parking on alt side days more

Only if you want to look like a streetwalker 10/13/2006

They will probably have to close their original store, which is why their new store is in a bad part of town. There's no way they could keep their doors open anywhere nice. The owner didn't listen to me at all. She didn't even get the color right. It was awful. If you want to look like a caricature from Brooklyn, then this is the place for you. Cons: didn't listen, the worst my hair has ever been colored more

man-friendly salon 9/14/2006

After years of impersonal service at barbershops and""salons"",it is a pleasure to visit Pros: comfortable atmosphere professional service not crazy $$ Cons: a little off the beaten track but not for long in Brooklyn! more

Take the treck, it's worth it! 8/16/2006

The last negative review was sent in by a worker who got fired for her bad attitude and is now trying to ruin Tara's name. Just read past reviews of Tara on the Le Chandelier page and it will be evident. I am a customer of Tara's and just came from her new location today. At first I was not too excited to go to her new place on 3rd Ave since it's not on the main strip (5th Ave) but once I walked in to her salon, my opinion changed. The space is beautiful and it's onlty two blocks from the avenue. From the elegant tile work on the floor to the sculptures and chaise lounge, this place is fit for a Queen. Much to my own surprise, I prefer her new location to the one on fifth. Kudos! Pros: you get much more than what you pay for when you book with tara more

What a big dissapointment 8/13/2006

I made an appointment with Tara at her 5th Ave store, from reviews on this website & others. I arrived at the store & was told that she was not working from this location, but their other store on 3rd (opended a month ago). I originally told the girl that I wanted an appointment at the 5th Ave location, as was closer. As I was desperate for a good cut, I dragged myself there, the receptionist calling ahead to inform Tara that I would be late. When I arrived at the Petit Salon, Tara appeared & then did some maintence issues for another 10 minutes. By the time my hair had been washed her next (more important) appointment had arrived. She cut a few chunks out of my hair & then removed my gown & put me under a ""natural"" hair dryer. The next appointment had her hair washed, cut & blowwaved before I had finished. Tara finally came over, with my clothes & body covered in hair, showed me a mirror which reflected a horror movie (forget any hand held hairdryer, product, brushes or styling tips). I tried to remove as much hair as I could from my clothes in front of her, but was a pointless excercise, and her reaction appeared like that was quite ok. I have never walked out of a salon covered in hair & with such an embarasing dry-off. I wll be spending my $50 elsewhere next time. Pros: Atmosphere, never having to go back! Cons: Prettiest shop in the street, poor service, poor cut more
