I was not impressed at all with this restuarant. My rib-eye was way over cooked (burned is more like it). The service was not to par - had to ask for water refills. Hubby liked h...

This restaurant is closed. Another victim of New York City real estate. I bet something really good will replace it... like Starbucks. more

Never again 1/23/2008

I'm really shocked at the amount of decent reviews for this place. A group of 6 of us went here around 10pm on a Saturday night for dinner. After taking our drink orders, we were basically ignored for 20 minutes by our waitress. We weren't even given a basket of bread! We finally snagged her and ordered our meal- apps and entrees. I agree with another review in saying that our waitress (I believe her name was Sonya- that was the name on the check) had obsessive compulsive disorder when it came to ordering your food. I asked what the soup was and she informed me it was sweet potato and when I shook my head no she went on for about 5 minutes on how horrible and sweet the soup is. Very strange. The mussels I ordered for the app were pretty good though. However, when the entrees came, both my pork chop entree as well as my friends were raw in the middle! We had to send them back. Another one of our entrees was too rare and the waitress replied that was the french way of cooking it and if we wanted it done anymore it would be ruined. huh? We're paying for it so cook it the way we like and asked for! After we received our pork chops back we realized that over 1/2 the pork chop was full on fat. It was disgusting. In the end the waitress ""generously"" offered my one friend a free diet coke (whoopie!) and my other friend a free dessert for her pork chop meal. I was offered nothing for my pork chop so we split the apple tart dessert between the 2 of us... which really wasn't good either. It had zero taste. The worst part was getting the bill and because we were a table of 6 the 20% gratuity was already included. Our waitress did NOT deserve anywhere near that. She was terrible. Like I said before, I think she has OCD and a bad attitude. It was almost like she was practically yelling at us for the way we were ordering our food! I would never return to this restaurant nor would I ever recommend it to anyone. more

Best in the theatre district 4/25/2007

great place to take your out of town visitors who insist on staying in times square. I had the grilled salmon from the prixe fix- excellent. one of our party had the skate panang and he also raved. the private room in the back is great- go here while you still can (and sign the petition to save it from the developer). Pros: Service, ambiance, food more

great neighborhood place worth a subway trip to get to 2/3/2007

Always a pleasure to have brunch here. My friend and I ordered the eggs benedict and the French toast, and split them between us. Benedict was very good, and the French toast was awesome! At any meal, food has always been excellent actually. Occasionally a bit of stuffiness from a server, but nothing awful. Lovely ambience. more

Good food, wonderful ambiance. A neighborhood place worth saving from the real estate monster.... 1/7/2007

Excellent pasta and fish disches. Service was very good, with extremely attentive staff, without 'hovering'. Pros: Ambiance, attentive staff Cons: A bit noisy with hard surface acoustics more

Good pre-show fare 11/16/2006

Very good, reliable spot for lunch or pre-theater. Tasty menu and nice ambiance. Recommended. I've returned several times. Pros: Good pre-theater food Cons: Good but not amazing more

Why do they recommend this place 10/25/2005

Based on the high reviews of this restaurant, I booked a table for a special event in advance. Basically I'm trying to figure out what all the hubbub is that would result in a 9.0 from CitySearch! My experience was a thumbs down. You're better off going to any number French Bistros down in the village or around the city IMO. On top of that it's extremely close seating. The place is tiny. Other people on top of you. The food was not outstanding at all and the service was average. I would never go again. The one plus is Gene Bertoncini's guitar work--if you manage to get a table near him. more

nice place 10/2/2005

we came here for brunch on a saturday afternoon. the waitress was very courteous. she gave us an opinion of what she liked at this little french place. i took her advice and i'm glad i did. if you're heading there for brunch, go for the frittata. you'll be glad you did. there is one thing i was disappointed about. the coffee was lukewarm. Pros: helpful staff, big portions Cons: coffee more

Great food, terrible waitress! 6/11/2005

Booked reservations based on readers' reviews and the food definitely lived up to its reputation. However, the waitress was unbelievably bossy and controlling; I believe she may suffer from obsessive compulsive disorder, as it seemed very distressing to her when we did not order our food in just the right way. Extremely odd behavior! Too bad for an otherwise wonderul restaurant! more

Fire the p.m. host, then you will have something 5/9/2005

After making a reservation for three people weeks in advance and confirming it the day before we were met by a rude host who insisted the reservation was for two. After saying, ""Well, that's gonna be a problem,"" he did not say a single word to us. Then after a few uncomfortable minutes he showed us to a table. Never saying a word. Did I mention that we arrived at 4:45 p.m. and there was only one occupied table in the place. Our waiter was not what you would call warm. I think he was actually bothered that we were there. The food however was exceptional and the price-fix theater menu was great. Get rid us the snooty, couldn't be bothered help and this place could be a jewel. Pros: food, value, convenient for theate Cons: service, host, waiter more

Fun, Romantic, Reasonably priced 3/17/2005

My favorite salmon in town... but I've recently sampled the steak and duck, fantastic. Try for the garden room if possible, its very cozy. more

great little place 1/25/2005

Great ambiance... try to get seated in the ""garden"" Food was very good. Service was good. Make a Reservation!!! It gets crowded during dinner/theatre times. Pros: Ambiance, Close to theatres more

The Perfect Date 10/1/2004

I choose this place for my last date based largly on the reviews on this site and I must say it ivd up to it's billing. The food was great (although the arugala in the arugala salad needs to be chopped) the service was not fantastic but pretty good (inubtrusive, great on a date) and the ambience was perfect. Pros: ambience, wine, location Cons: , crowded more

EXCELLENT! 3/16/2004

Try the salmon - I was a bit concerned about the fennel - but this dish's combination of textures and flavors left me wanting more. I will definetly go back for another visit. Pros: Great Wine, Excellent Lighting, Convenient Location Cons: , Crowded, Bathrooms more

Not bad, but... 3/9/2004

Came here for brunch a while ago. I liked the space, though it pushed on the ""faux"" French a little too hard. The food was, well, fine, but nothing to write home about. Maybe it's different in the evening, but I'd give this a 7/10 rather than the (approx) 9/10 it gets on average Pros: Carefully executed more

A Real Find 12/16/2003

This wonderful little bistro in the theatre district was recommended by my parents. They weren't wrong. We sat in the charming garden room-- completely full and a bit loud but not overwhelming. Service was excellent. Both of us had the duck, which was delicious, perfectly cooked and accompanied by a wonderful polenta and a sort of sour cabbage. This was an excellent value and a wonderful dinner experience. In fact, we've already made a reservation to go back! more

Great private room 9/17/2003

We sat in the garden room. I had a appetizing mixed green salad, chicken w/ great mashed potatoes and a pretty good creme brulee. Waitress was nice but didnt know some specials and was alittle off, think she was new. Overall a plkeasant experience. more

Very Good!! 7/30/2003

We had a great time when we took my friend out for lunch for her birthday! We sat in the garden room, which is open year round & very nice! The little fountain in the back, and even though it the place was full it wasn't loud or stuffy. The gazpacho was GREAT!! Never been a big fan but would come back again just for that. The food was very good & the service was very friendly!! Pros: service, food, garden more

A ten and a gem 6/22/2003

It was recommended by a friend and boy was she right on! The ambience is sweet, the garden room is beautiful, but you are there for the wonderful food. The Crisp Spicy Duck was sublime, but leave room for dessert. Have the Valhrona Chocolate and Carmel Mousse or the Lemon Custard. They will use up all your points for the week but it is worth it. You can also find a very nice wine for a reasonable price. Go there and tell all your friends! Pros: Beautiful Decor, Great Food, Friendly Service Cons: none I can think of more
