Le Cheval

The salty crab, I am told, is awesome. The place is beautiful, huge without being impersonal. It's a great place to take kids, with the big metal horse and the rickshaw. It's reasonably well-priced, and considering that it's downtown, parking is not bad. Vegetarians, however, beware: servers are not always clear on which dishes are vegetarian, and sometimes tell you that a particular dish is vegetarian because it doesn't have chunks of meat - and then you find out that the broth or some other part is made from animals anyway. more

I have been a patron of Le Cheval for many years, and their lunch menu is to die for. The prices haven't changed for the last few years, which is good... and the prices here are very reasonable. My personal favorites are curry chicken and le cheval combo, which are both around 7 to 8 dollars each...and are both well worth the money because the food is great. Lunch comes with complimentary soup, which is either carrot soup or potato soup, both of which are creamy, buttery, and most of all hearty. I often find myself wanting another bowl! Many of the items that you can get for lunch are also available for dinner, but are more expensive. I'd go here for lunch more often because the lunch menu is cheaper! And you can also order more expensive dinner items as well. more

One of my favorite food is the PHo soups. Man they are the best! I would go to the resturant with my friends alot to eat and I enjoy it alot. They get your order very fast and i did not have a problem with it ever. The location of this store is like right in the middle of Oakland so it is very close to you.Even talking about it right now makes me very hungry, probably should with my friends right now to get some. more

Le Cheval offers probably the best Vietnamese food in Oakland. It's located at 10th and Clay Streets in the Old Oakland section of Downtown Oakland. The building that Le Cheval sits in is very old, over 100 years old. The food at Le Cheval is great! If you are not Vietnamese, everything on the item will be new to you so don't be afraid to try something. For people new to Vietnamese cuisine, it can be a bit spicy. I happen to like spicy food, therefore I enjoy going to Le Cheval. My favorite dish at Le Cheval is the chicken mixed with vegetables. All dishes at Le Cheval are in both Vietnamese and English, so I don't remember what it was called. I'm also some what of a novice to Vietnamese cuisine. I'd also like to mention that I'd recommend the spring rolls for appetizers. The atmosphere is great at Le Cheval, although it can get noisy sometimes. The service is fast. Overall, Le Cheval is a good dining experience. more

Linton and I LOVE Le Cheval! This Vietnamese place in downtown Oakland is phabulous. They have fantastic, authentic food at REALLy reasonable prices. Be sure to make a reservation. This place is usually packed during dining hours. more
