Unless you are a vegetarian, you must try Lawry's at some point in your life. It is a dining experience like no other. The second you enter the huge, beautiful dining room you enter another world. The atmosphere, service, and food come together to provide a one-of-a-kind experience you will not find anywhere else. Pros: the food - all of it, the service, the decor Cons: expensive more

I love coming to Lawrys. The ambience can be a little stuffy, but the prime rib is so delicious. I recommend the California cut medium rare. And the decor is so elegant and ambience is very uplifting. The servers are very polite. The prices are steep if youre on a budget, but its definitely worth trying atleast once and its excellent for a special occasion. Pros: food Cons: price more

Highly Disappointed !!! 8/19/2005

I love primerib, but not from here!!! It is nothing like what you see on TV during the Beef Bowl. The best thing about this place was the salad, how sad is that!!! The place was a nice experience, but the primerib that my table was served tastes as good as a $10 Las Vegas buffet!!!! I guess they figured we are young and don't know the difference. more

Wonderful Food. Wonderful Service 5/10/2005

I've had the great pleasure of dining at Lawry's several times and I must say I'm impressed. The service is wonderful with tons of class. The food is delicious as well. When dining you have the choice of a prime rib dinner or a 3 lobster tail dinner. Both are fantastic. Their portions are huge so you will never leave hungry which more than justifies the $30+ price tag per plate, which I consider a steal since I've had food half as good and paid twice as much at other restaraunts. In terms of ambience I would recommend Lawry's for the couples that want a quiet night to sit and talk. Overall an awesome place to eat. Pros: Great Service, Great Value, Great Food more

Of course the prime rib is great here - but i loved the decor and atmosphere. Very old school, definitely adds to the whole experience. Other than the rib - all the sides are great too - even the salad tastes extra special. Creamed corn, mushrooms, and spinich are must-haves. more

Great for that special occasion 1/23/2005

If you go for an anniversary or birthday, they give you a free slice of cake. Ours was a yummy type of strawberry shortcake. Making reservations is the best idea because as soon as you get there, there's probably 50+ people waiting for a table. Having made a reservation a week earlier, they seated us as soon as we got there. The Lawry cut is a good choice for almost everyone because you can just take home your leftovers. The salad is great, probably because of the enormous amount of dressing and fried croutons. The spinach is overrated, but the prime rib really is the best. In all, our meal cost $80 (incl. tax, tip) for 2 prime rib dinners and the spinach. Not too bad for a very special night. Pros: prime rib!, good for bday/anniv. Cons: , can be pricey more

Our favorite special occasion restaurant. Truly one of a kind. The service is always fast & friendly. The whole package, the spinning salad bowl, the baked potato, the carving cart are special. We've NEVER had a better prime rib anywhere. Pros: Prime Ribs of Beef, Atmosphere, Service more

My Favorite for Prime Rib 12/2/2004

Lawry's has got the best prime rib. Get the Lawry cut and the creamed spinach. Plan to spend about 2 bills for dinner for 2, but it's worth it if it's a special occasion or date. If you want prime rib, but want to spend a less, try their sister restaurant in Los Feliz - Tam O'Shanter Inn Restaurant. more

The prime rib here is delicious!! The salad, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and yorkshire pudding compliments the prime rib perfectly. The creamed corn here is the best i've tasted so far. I'm getting hungry...become a VIP member. I think its worth the one time $20 fee... Pros: prime rib, creamed corn, salad more

Great Prime Rib! 10/17/2004

Went to Lawry's for our anniversary and it really is good. Just as good as House of Prime Rib in SF. The salad was better (no MSG like House's) but the mashed potatoes weren't all that. Go for the baked instead. Creamed spinach is not included but the pudding tastes better. If it's your bday or anniversary, they will also give you free dessert (which House does not do). Prime rib was delicious, didn't need to use Lawry's seasoning. Pros: food, service more

Simply wonderful! 6/2/2004

Absolutely the best prime rib in Los Angeles. I've been going to Lawry's for 14 years. Though half the restaurant is for walk-ins, I highly recommend reservations. You can start making them the first of the month prior to your reservation date. For holidays, be sure you call on the first! I ususally get the Lawry's cut so I can have some left overs for breakfast. Always cooked to perfection. Husband gets an end cut as he likes it well done. Again, perfectly cooked but not dry. Definitely try the creamed corn as it is to die for. Hubby gets the spinach which he loves. Also the creamed horse radish makes my mouth water just thinking about it! $100 per couple with dinner and a glass of wine. $150 with a bottle of wine and desert. Can't wait to go again! Pros: Great food, wonderful service, good value for the $ Cons: , walk in wait time more

i've been frequenting lawry's prime rib for over 6 years now and i have always loved it. the prime rib has always been excellent, and i never have any complaints about the food. the only thing i would say is that service isn't as great as it used to be; while i've never had bad service, i just feel the servers in the past seemed to put into more effort into making their customers as comfy as possible. i personally prefer the california cut (which is smaller than the diamond jim) for the enhanced flavor, and i highly recommend the creamed corn and creme brulees. Pros: wonderful quality, non-pretentious, tasty spinning salad more

I have been to Lawry's a few times and every dining experience has been wonderful. The prime rib is outstanding and the cream corn is to die for. I am not able to leave unless I top the meal off with their creme broulee and french roast coffee. Great Restaurant but a little pricey. Pros: Delicious food, Clean, Romantic Cons: , Reservations a must, Dress attire more

Just polished off leftovers from last night's visit to Lawry's. Having read other reviews, I made reservations a week in advance. This was barely enough time! I requested the Oval Room, though I'm not sure if that's what I got. My only complaint about the ambiance is that it's not very intimate; I felt far away from my date. Wherever you sit, be prepared to hear "Happy Birthday," throughout the night! My experience was typical to other happy reviews: the salad is really great, the meat was perfectly prepared (medium rare) and tender, the lobster was fine, and the mashed potatoes were very bland, but were fine with some seasoned salt and pepper added. The portions are more than enough for one meal. My suggestion: insist on boxing lobster separately! The bill for 2 Lawry's cut steaks, one with lobster, and one Coke: $78.45. A little steep, but not bad. Pros: Great steak, great salad, quick service Cons: Valet, not intimate setting, yorkshire pudding more

I went with a big group for a party and we were seated quite quickly b/c of reservations. The service was good but slow b/c it was a weekend. Waited about 30 minutes for food. Ambience was really nice but not very unique. Food is pretty good and portions are large (comes with the price) but not something that I would eat often. Salad was awesome....yummy! Overall, great once in a while but becareful, sometimes they workers (ie. hostesses) can be very pretentious. Pros: have prvt rooms Cons: Busy weekends more

Definately a place to try 5/16/2003

I go to Lawry's somewhat regularly. I usually order my meats medium rare, and Lawry's has been right on the dot; not to rare or too well cooked. Though their salad is just okay, I don't expect them to do a superb job on greens at a primerib restuarant. I'd also highly recommend getting the cream corn. Enjoy. more
