Best

I've been going to the Lava Lounge for about 2yrs now and I like it. The bartenders are all pretty AWESOME and the drinks are reasonably priced for Bell Town. I do believe I like...

Worst

Everytime I've gone to the Lava Lounge I've never been able to find a place to sit. Occasionally I can get a stool at the bar, but prefer a table when I'm with friends. There's ne...

Lava Lounge is a great place to meet friends in Belltown 5/8/2006

These days my wife and I don't get out of the house much on weekends. Busy being parents and all that. Recently, my wife was kind enough to allow me to meet a couple of friends for a beer and a show (Destroyer) at the Crocodile Cafe. We chose the Lava Lounge in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood for its proximity to the Croc and the laid back scene. In fact, the thing I like about the Lava Lounge is that there isn't a scene. Punks (the musically inspired kind) mix with slackers, mix with working stiffs, mix with what passes for glitterati in Seattle. Zero pretense, solid spinning, and a terrific range of beers on tap. It's also really, really dark inside which is neither here nor there but is something distinctive about the place. Anyway, the Lava Lounge is one of my favorite casual watering holes in the city. more

Interesting Place 6/16/2005

You don't have to be young to enjoy the Lava Lounge in Belltown. It's not about the Lava lamps (I'm a 60's and 70's person), its the fun of it, the interesting people and great drinks and snacks. more

  • The Scene
While the crudely carved wood sign and torches outside of the bar promise a full-on tiki experience, the interior reveals that the theme is entirely incidental. A few Polynesian items dot the busy walls, but the overall decorating scheme is a random assemblage of kitsch--most notably, a menacing stuffed cat. An equally eclectic mix of rockers, young professionals, and grizzled old-timers keep the place busy, especially on Fridays and Saturdays.

    The Draw
After years of serving only beer and wine, the Lava is now pouring the hard stuff, too. It's still beer that flows most freely, though. With a lineup that ranges from PBR to Chimay, most every palate is accommodated. A popular shuffleboard table and some video games offer amusements. The jukebox is good, but the lineup of DJs who spin a gamut of punk, soul, hip-hop and metal is better.
