This place was highly rated so we checked it out. The outside tables were packed and after being seated inside I know why. The front room was basically the kitchen of a big diner....

Editorial review from GrubHub 9/23/2013

Delicious, fresh salad and bruschetta. I wish the salad had more dressing ? it was a bit dry, but still delicious! more

I only eat pizza from L'asso. 8/23/2009

L'asso pizza is what pizza should taste like. They have a good variety and their ingredients are always fresh. The salads are really great and cheap, considering one bowl feeds three people. Everyone who works at L'asso is really friendly and accommodating (and really good looking, actually) -- which is hard to come by. Pros: delicious and always consistent Cons: I wish you could take your drinks outside more

Best Pizza in NYC 6/18/2009

I am surprised to see the bad reviews on here. This place is by far the best pizza place I have been to. If you are into the European style thin crust, not too greasy pizza, this is the right place to go. But, if you are into Ray's pizza: lots of cheese and uncooked, wet bread crust pizza, this is not your thing. If you go for dinner around 8, this place is always packed. So, go early. Their drinks are ok, but you really don't go there for drinks. I have also been there for brunch on weekend and ordered Fritata. It is also delicious. The brunch set gives you an entree, a drink (mimosa, bloody mary..etc) and coffee, it's priced reasonably food is excellent too. Pros: good food & staff Cons: Fresh made pizza, so it takes a little long more

completely unprofessional 6/15/2009

Waiter was too busy prancing around. Boy trying to be girl with full-on makeup. Prancing around. Ridiculous. Took 1/2 hour to get a slice of pizza. Met up with a table of 6. Waiter was so discombobulated that 4 slices were billed at $2.50 and the other remaining slices were billed at $2.00 even though the web-site advertises $1.00 slices for happy hour. False advertising! Will never return and will advise all in the neighborhood of the poor service. Pros: was none because the staff was unattentive Cons: zero service more

Yum! 3/15/2009

We were sent here by a barmaid from a couple of blocks away who said she'd regularly ordered in from there.... it was sooo tasty - Truffle Oil is amazing! The pizzas are great to share and it had a nice atmosphere for somewhere modern. Pros: Tasty, Quick, Friendly Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

jUST OK. 6/3/2008

This place was highly rated so we checked it out. The outside tables were packed and after being seated inside I know why. The front room was basically the kitchen of a big diner. The atmosphere was one of a busy kitchen. The menu was HUGE, almost too big. Luckily we were going in for the pizza and didn't have to go through the whole menu. The pizza was good. The small size was actually quite large and fed two of us with some left over. Prices were OK. more

Lifesaver delivery! 2/13/2008

My boss came over to my desk on a Tuesday and told me to find food for a twenty person meeting with clients and board members. The meeting was at 1:30 and he told me at 12:00! I made a few calls and was refused by a few local places until L'asso said they could do it no problem. They showed up on time with pizza, salad and drinks. They were also able to accomidate a few vegetarians in the group. It made my job a lot easier and my boss had no compaints. There aren't too many places downtown that would handle this type of order last minute. They even said we would receive a discount on our next office-sized order. Pros: reliable delivery service more

new brunch spot 2/13/2008

I'm on their email blast so i got an email that said they are now open for brunch on the weekend. I went in with a small group, we usually go to brunch at orlean or belcourt. This was great. they really nailed the goat cheese and sundried tomato fritata. You get some potatos with rosemary and asparagus, plus a coffee and a bloody mary for fifteen bucks. someone at our table also had the italian toast which is super good. its panatone instead of regular bread and they make their own syrup. good work l'asso. Pros: close, friendly, good music Cons: no outside seating more

Can't get to Rome? Go to L'asso instead. 1/21/2008

I have been to Rome several times and experienced the amazing pizza there. When I go to L'asso I feel as though I've stepped into a Roman pizzeria. The thin crust pizza is excellent. I have many, many times daydreamed about and craved their appetizer consisting of imported Italian buffalo mozzarella and pistachios with reduced balsamic vinegar. Incredible. Truly. The atmoshphere is relaxed and very pleasant. A must visit. Pros: good food, fun atmosphere more

If you want a quality slice of pizza and great atmosphere... 9/20/2007

...then come to L'Asso. What can I say. I'm addicted. Since I found out about this little gem, I now only eat pizza here. They do awesome pizza with quality healthy ingredients. Unlike other 'gourmet' type pizza places, though, they do slices. And you can't beat their happy hour- $1 slices Mon-Fri 5-7. I can't even find $1 slices in my hometown of Utica, NY anymore. The people are cool as hell, too. Its a relaxed, hang out with your friends kind of place. Oh, also, their salads and pastas are great as well. Try the Fagotini- (a ravioli) it is delightful, creamy and delicious. Of course, there has to be a downfall. I'll tell you- it is that now I only eat pizza when I'm in Manhattan. 'Cause no where else compares- simple as that. Pros: everything from food to people, to location, to prices (compared to the neighborhood) more

Amazing pizza! Best combinations, excellent quality! 8/31/2007

Their menu was filled with some of the best thought-out topping combinations; it was really hard to decide. We ordered three combos. My favorite was the one with apple and gorgonzola; another person's fav was the proscuitto and arugula and the third person in our party always orders the mushroom and truffle oil pizza (called tartuffo, something like that). We also ordered the tomato soup, which was presented very elegantly and was very fresh. You can request that your pizza be one-half of one combo and one-half of another (for med and large pies only). Pros: Amazing gourmet pizza. Cons: Service was good, but nothing stand-out. more

EAT THE PIZZA! and the panini too! 4/1/2007

We always go in for dinner and eat the pizza. It's easily the best pizza going anywhere. But we were in for lunch and convinced to try the Panini's. FANTASTIC! Ten bucks gets you one of six panini's, a salad or soup and a drink. Thats dirt cheap for the NoLita SoHo area for sure. And the Panini was awesome. I had one with cranberry sauce and italico which is an american version of brie. so goooood. get in there! Pros: great music, friendly service, community atmosphere more

Great people, great food 12/28/2006

If you live in the Nolita/Soho area and haven't been here, you are missing out. I live around the corner from this ""pizza shop"" and I just can't have enough of it. Pizza is amazing. Staff is friendly. Grab a seat at the bar if you are coming in by yourself for a quick bite, or grab a seat in one of the booths in the corner if you are bringing a date. This place has arguably the best gourmet-style pizza in town, only a block away from the best traditional style pizza in New York (Lombardi's). Pros: Pizza, price, friendliness of staff more

Average pizza, smoky atmosphere, there are better places 9/19/2006

I had not known that there is almost no meat dishes here. The pizzas were so-so. The place was very smoky from the wood-oven. They really need better ventilation. After dinenr everyone smelled like a bbq. Pros: No wait, convenient location Cons: Smoky, no meat pizzas more

Fantastic Pizza with Great Ambiance 8/6/2006

While other people waited in line for an hour at Lombardi's, we found L'asso and enjoyed fantastic pizza in a quieter and more intimate setting. The food was amazing and the reggae music that was playing was just right to enjoy it and a good conversation wth my date. more

Fantastic private party 8/1/2006

I can't say enough good about L'Asso. I looked for months for a reasonably priced place that could accommodate about 40 people for a wedding rehearsal dinner on a Friday night. L'Asso did a fantastic job. We got three courses -- fancy salads, fancy pizzas, dessert pizza with Nutella, yum! -- for about $14 per person. The staff was amazing, so nice and so helpful. And the food was fantastic. Thank you L'Asso! Pros: great for big groups, fantastic staff, great food Cons: not on the prettiest block more

My cool trip to Italy while in NYC 5/25/2006

L'asso is hip, typically that doesn't go hand-in-hand with authentic fare. Except here. My ""no-gluten-for-me"" friend couldn't help herself, even she had to try my slice, buffalo mozzarella melting in our mouths. And no, that's not the wine talking. Pizza out of a wood-burning oven sitting behind a marble, curved bar creating this open feeling to the whole place! It's so unpretentious I almost asked one of the cute waitresses to join us. Very laid-back vibe and the music made you perk up your ears because it's eclectic, makes you sway and I want to say, cool. Also, I've never tasted a better salad at a place that does $2 PBR's and slices every Friday, try the one with grilled shrimp if you like your seafood fresh. Surprisingly, I still had room for dessert because their pastry chef makes tiramisu from scratch, can you blame me? Stay cool L'asso. Pros: , Great wine specials more

  • Big windows and a roaring brick oven give this corner restaurant an inviting air. But what's so inviting that there always seem to be a few model-types on the premises, eating pizza of all things?...
