This is my favorite restaurant in Chinatown. I have never had a dish here that was even mediocre, let alone which I disliked. The staff are friendly and helpful in making selections, and the complimentary appetizer of sliced, spicy, white cabbage that accompanies the large glasses water is the perfect introduction to the Lao Sze Chuan kitchen. I highly recommend the lamb with cumin and the garlic eggplant. Dan dan noodles with ground pork, green onions and chili sauce are also a delicious snack if you can't wait for the main course (which usually arrives promptly, anyway). While the restaurant specializes in spicy Szechuan cuisine, not everything there is hot. Try their fish in black bean sauce or mild spinach with garlic. I recommend the hot pot, especially the lover's style because it offers both spicy and milder broth for cooking your food. I also completely disagree with B.S. on the hot pot - of course it is a lot of food, but that is the beauty of hot pot. Diners with high cholesterol or high blood pressure should eat moderately, in any case. After enjoying a meal at Lao Sze Chuan, stroll down the mall and stop for dessert or bubble tea in one of the many Chinese bakeries along the way.
