I USED TO BE a regular customer for Lalos Restaurant, but lately, I found the food was not the same, higher prices and not so friendly service. You sell food, not only margaritas.....

SHUT DOWN 6/3/2009

This Lalo's location is no longer open. It has been replaced by another restaurant/bar called LaSalle Power Company. If you want to go to Lalo's, they have other locations in the suburbs (Glenview, Des Plaines, etc.) more

Excellent in sea foods 4/29/2009

Your place to go for authentic Mexican cuisine and awesome Sangria! 6/8/2008

My boyfriend and I are new to the city and ate there last night and it was perfect. The place is huge but it felt private in the booths. The food was great and the service was as well. They are very polite and the pricing is very reasonable. The sangria was amazing too! I highly recommend. Pros: valet up front, service, food, atomosphere. Cons: valet is $12 (is that the norm? we dont know because we just moved here) more

Good food 2/11/2008

LOVED their chips and salsa. My husband said it was the best chorizo taco to be the best he?d ever had; chicken mole enchilada was good as well as the chile relleno. Very tasty rice, and I liked the refried beans since I prefer them without lard. My pork tamales (I had both tomatillo and ranchera sauce) were flavorful but on the rich side for me?got a chunk of fat in one of them. A slice of poblano in there added some spice. Flavorful chicken soup that came with the dinners. Spacious restaurant, very nice. Service was great at every point from hosts, to attentive bus boy refilling chips and salsa, and waiter who helped us get out of there in record time. It's just a little more than I'd like to pay. Pros: Good food, great service, spacious feeling, bright decor Cons: costs a little more more

Don't Waste Your Money 6/29/2007

It was just a bad experience all around. We we're seated quickly got water, chips and salsa. Our waitress came to take our order she got an attitude when I ask her if the had cheese enchiladas and acted like she had no clue what they were then told me I was talking about quesadillas, like I had never eaten Mexican food before. I ended up getting the spinach enchiladas and they tasted like dirt, there were so bad I nearly got sick. My boyfriend got the Pollo con Mole and the mole sauce had a really thick paste like texture that left a horrid aftertaste and the chicken so extremly dry. The waitress came around after 20 minutes and asked how was everything as if she couldn't tell by the amount of food left on the plates. I wish I would have read the reviews before I went. I seriously would go to Taco Bell before I go back to this place. It's way overprice and the food is NOT good. Don't waste your money or time. There are plenty of other good Mexican food place around. Read the other reviews, you'll see a pattern. If I could give it a lower star I would, it was that bad. Pros: chips and salsa were ok, but it's hard to screw that up Cons: Food and service were just plain bad, taco bell has better mexican food!! more

overpriced 11/11/2005

I was very disappointed with Lalos. Pros: waitresses seem nice Cons: poor value, bad food, noise more

Real Mexican 5/19/2003

The only complaint I have about Lalo's is that the tables are very close together. Otherwise, the food is topnotch and very authentic. I do not frequent restaurants very often unless they come highly recommended(Mexican people prefer to eat at home), but I shall go back again and again. Pros: Quality, Inexpensive, Authenticity Cons: Crowded more

Lalos 5/2/2003

I was really dissapointed with this place. For years I had heard some goods things about this place but wound up being unimpressed. I tried the one in River North and the one in Cicero- both failed to meet my expectations. At the River North location, I swear, my dinner plate had a slight scent of a wet dirty dishrag. more

overpriced 4/24/2003

The service was great, the food bland. I now know why the waitress hadn't asked how we wanted our steak? Where was the meat? There was very little meat for our $14 dollar price. The vegetables that accompanied it had no flavor what so ever. The margarita was tasty but also overpriced. All of us had been at the restaurant when it was Jordans and what a transformation-the decor was wonderful, but the vinyl/plastic marquee outside tacky. Doesn't go at all with the neons hanging on the side of the building. Pros: service, decor, ambience Cons: not worth the money, bland, where's the meat??? more

lalos-what a disappointment 4/17/2003

Too big for the kitchen to handle-From the overcrowded dining room to the cold food and to the dirty bathrooms in the basment-this place is terrible! Don't bother. Stick with Uncle Julio's for ""lincoln park"" style mex or go down to Nuevo Leon on 18th for the best in mexican food-authentic and hot when its delivered to your table. Cons: overcrowded, cold food, bland food more

Forever Lalo's in Berwyn 2/1/2003

I agree, Lalo's in Berwyn does have good food, and great margaritas. The margaritas are very potent, so be careful! The wait staff is very good to the customers. My girlfriends and I have literally sat there for 3 1/2 hrs without ever feeling any pressure to hurry and free up the table. My favorite is the crock of carrots, cauliflower, and jalapenos they put on the table, yum. Pros: margaritas, veggies on table, service Cons: parking, long waits on weekend more

not good anymore 1/18/2003

I USED TO BE a regular customer for Lalos Restaurant, but lately, I found the food was not the same, higher prices and not so friendly service. You sell food, not only margaritas.... Pros: margaritas Cons: food, prices, variety more

MUY BUENO! 12/31/2002

I love this place. From the Margarittas to the sopas. The food, drink & ambience is perfect but the service is sometimes lacking. OVerall, very good restaurant. more

#1 in my book 12/15/2002

This is my FAVORITE restaraunt in Chicago. I love the authentic mexican food and (strong)Margarita's. You have to love a place that has a margarita that is as big as your head! more

Authentic 12/15/2002

NO Tex-Mex Here. Real central Mexico Cuisin, great service, and the best margaritas, and Micheladas Pros: Good Value, great attitude Cons: parking more

Nothing Good 12/10/2002

Food is not good, the maragaritas are not all that, and the restaurant is extremely loud. Would not at all recommend. Cons: food, food, ambience more

ABFAB 9/19/2002

Great food, great environment, great margaritas! They even have dancing on the weekends! Great family biz! more

makes taco bell look like a 5 star resta 9/18/2002

the food is bad, we hardly touched anything on our plate and the waitress didn't even ask if there was a problem or ask if we wanted to take it home. i guess its a common thing your money. check out maries mexican restaurant. its the best! more

try the one on HARLEM AVE. 9/17/2002

I have not beed to the one downtown, but if you are looking for spicy, good mexican food, cocktials, and maybe a little dancing do try the one on harlme more

Don't go here! 8/11/2002

I went here on a Friday around 7. The place had incredibly tiny tables, the margaritas were not strong at all, and they played Gloria Estafan videos (very loudly) for literally over 2 hours. It was absolutely ridiculous. The place is cute, but there's no room to eat the (horrible) food. I love Mexican food, but only ate about 2 bites of my order. This place has potential, but the music, food, and drinks all need some serious help. more
