good fun 3/25/2006

Lakemont park offers a small amoutn of average rides. There are no big thrill rides, but the prices reflect this and keep it very affordable, especially on special days when they are dramatically lowered. They have a large waterpark and arcade as well. It can get very crowded on some days and is quite spread out, so if you are not much of a walker, much for crowds, or need some extreme rides, I wouldn't recommend it, but if you enjoy simple fun at low prices for the whole family, i would. more

Fabulous Family Amusement Park 8/21/2005

Lakemont Park in Altoona, PA is the best family amusement park we have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Even on regular days, the cost is very reasonable. However, there are many days that are greatly discounted, allowing the entire family to go for very little money. There are tons of rides for preschoolers. The older kids can enjoy the larger rides. The little ones enjoyed feeding ducks and playing in the sand, things you don't typically find at an amusement park. Lines are almost nil. The prices for concessions were very reasonable, but guests are permitted to bring coolers and picnic in the park, making it that much more affordable as a family activity. To top it all off, Lakemont is home of the oldest roller coaster in the world. For a perfect day with the family, this is the place to be. more

The Sad Remnants of a Historic Park 8/14/2005

Those from the area may know the unfortunate history of Lakemont Park. At one time, it was the premiere place for amusement in the area. When I was a child growing up on the 70's and 80's, it remained a quaint, wooded park that was great for family entertainment. Then at some point (I believe it was in the late 80's) a local candy maker bought it with the aspiration of turning it into a theme park. Trees were cut down, grass was replaced with concrete, and the charm of the place disappeared. To top it off, the new owner's concept failed (largely due to a lack of capital) and the park headed downhill fast. Luckily, a local contractor bought it and began making improvements. Unfortunately, it still has a long way to go. The highlights are the historic Leap the Dips Rollercoaster and the bumper cars. There is also a little train to ride that is great for kids. There is a waterpark that is great for hot days. But other than that, most of the rides are similar to carnival attractions. The low admission price is good for families on a budget, and on Wednesdays it is only a dollar to enter! For a buck, you will definitely get your money's worth! more

Enterainment for the Whole Family 8/11/2005

Lakemont Park offers a variety of adult and child rides to suit the entire family. Along with a moderate variety of rides, Lakemont offers a variety of carnival type games and food concession stands. In addition, Lakemont is known for its annual wing off and frequent dollar day specials. So bring the family and enjoy. more

Hot 7/8/2005

The park itself is very big. There aren't very many trees, or even rides, though. Everything just seems to be spread out. So, it can be boring and hot to walk from ride to ride. Lakemont Park has a lot of specials during the summer, such as ride all day for $2. So it can be a very inexpensive way to spend the day. more

Lakemont Park 6/20/2005

Lakemont Park is okay to go to when you need something to do but there aren't many fun rides and the rides they do have aren't really worth waiting in line for. They do have good water slides. They also have an old wooden roller coaster. It's very old and they just redid it. The park can also be dirty sometimes. more
