This is always where I take company when they come in town! The food is some of the best in a town & the margaritas are awesome. I have no idea why there are bad reviews, except...

Went with my 3 kids ages 12, 4, and 3...\r The reviews and also spread in the Express news made it seem ideal for family fun. The food was super greasy, like something Chef Ramse...

NOT VERY GOOD !!!!!! 10/11/2011

Food was so so, chicken bones in the Fajitas and the service was poor. If the server had a personality, she left it at home. One bowl of stale chips.. never refilled. 9 people, $192... will NOT go back. more

Perfect Patio for Margaritas 3/13/2011

This is always where I take company when they come in town! The food is some of the best in a town & the margaritas are awesome. I have no idea why there are bad reviews, except it seems that parents want to have a meal & a baby sitter. more

OUSTANDING 11/17/2010

great food and they even have refried beans made without lard by request!!!!! fantastic food people and drinks!!!!!! more

Seriously Over-rated 10/23/2010

Went with my 3 kids ages 12, 4, and 3...\r The reviews and also spread in the Express news made it seem ideal for family fun. The food was super greasy, like something Chef Ramsey would freak out about and the ""fun playscape"" is outside with no seating available nearby. We had to take turns deserting our table in order to check up on the kids. One parent would be left behind while the other was outside interacting. Not ideal. The plates range from $10 for basic nothing-special flautas to $37 for something like spare-ribs. The food is greasy, smothered in unidentifiable bland sauces, and the service is sub-par. more

Love the place! 8/1/2010

Good food, good service & an excellent patio. The bartender, Steven, was fantastic! Very personable, friendly & fun. Will go back for both the food AND the bartender. :o) Pros: Good food, good service Cons: A little pricier than others more

One Stars Reviews Undeserved 5/16/2010

Being one to reserve one star ratings for truly bad places to avoid, I can't help but feel that many of these one star ratings are undeserved or not well thought out. I live nearby and visit regularly. The taquitos del pueblo is my regular order and it never dissappoints. We usually order margaritas that are potent and tasty. (anyone who orders a drink like a pina colada doesn't have the right to complain about thier rooty tooty frooty chick drink lacking kick) There is a playground close enough to watch the kids, but far away enough to keep the dining area from being a romper room. My only issue is the crowds. Sometimes parking can be a challenge. It's not S.A.'s BEST, but it's pretty good and the atmosphere is excellent. It's definately not a one star. Pros: Atmosphere, food, atmosphere Cons: crowds, overpriced more

Worst attempt at Tex-Mex 5/9/2010

We ordered the ""spicy shrimp"" cocktail, Chicken Fajitas for two, and chicken mole. The shrimp we got seemed to have been washed with soap & water because it was flavorless. The shrimp sauce was ketchup. The chicken fajitas seemed to be boiled. The beans not only lacked taste but we got no more than a teaspoon that was spread out thinly on our plate. The mole sauce was gritty & it was so sweet, we felt we were eating maple syrup. We shoukd have saved our money and gone to Mama Margie's instead. What a dissappointment! Pros: Nice building Cons: The food is tasteless more

They are finally getting it right! 3/1/2010

When this place first opened we went to check it out because its related to Los Barrios another San Antonio Great, and initially I wasn't impressed. Now that they have been at it for a while they are firing on all cylinders. The food is great, the patio is great and of course the drinks... I like to order the traditional Enchiladas Mexicanas, it is a tastey treat but everytime I order it they ask if I'm serious and ask if I want to taste a sample to make sure I want it because its different from the garden variety of enchiladas around these parts, its a more traditional cheese enchilada... I love that plate and I love La Hacienda de los Barrios! Pros: Food, atmosphere, patio Cons: slow start more

What a Letdown! 1/12/2010

Like the previous reviews, we went to La Hacienda because we saw it on Throwdown with Bobby Flay on the Food Network. We went January 9, 2010. I wanted to go for the Puffy Tacos. We drove there from Houston. The first thing I ordered was a Pina Colada. I tasted no rum at all,and I rarely drink but ordered it to get me in the mood for the anticipated dinner. Then the waiter brought out the nacho chips and salsa. The salsa was runny, and had no flavor. I've had better salsa at Kroger! The nacho chips tasted store-bought and they heated them under a heat lamp. We ordered the Puffy Taco dinner. They were a major disappointment. I had the ground beef and my friend had the chicken. Both were totally bland. The refried beans, tasted like they came straight out of a can. Didn't spent much time on the rice either! My friend ask for lime wedges so we could give it some flavor;didn't help. Like previous reviews, yes it's overpriced. If this restaurant won against the famous Bobby Flay, it makes me wonder how good he is. more

Exactly! 12/15/2009

Dont know many rest's that you would go to only for their patio, beer and live entertainment and not their food- but this is one. I agree with the other reviewers and don't understand how this place got spotlighted on the food network- have tried their food countless times and always disappointed. It is one of my favorite places to hang out but have learned to eat before I go sit on their patio, drink beer and watch the live entertainment. Pros: patio and live music Cons: food more

terribly disappointed 10/18/2009

After seeing this restarant on the Food Network, my friends and I drove all the way from Austin to try it. The food was cold and very bland. The beans must have been from the can because they were awful. I'm hispanic and when I go to a restaurant that advertises great tex-mex food, that's what I expect. Maybe La Hacienda is fooling others about Tex-Mex food, but you can't fool us. They also had very young waiters who wouldn't refill our tea glasses even though we kept asking them to. Sorry Bobby, you really missed the boat on this restaurant. The only thing good was the atmosphere. I don't recommend it to any one. Pros: beautiful atmosphere Cons: food was cold, unappealing and bland more

Management is horrible 9/11/2009

I went last friday night and the girl manager was horrible been there a few times before and had trouble with her the past times I went. I called and complained but that didn't seem to matter. But last friday I had a problem with my server and metioned it to the managers and they did not care. I Will not go back ever again and i will make sure to pass this on to everyone i know!! more

disappointment 9/6/2009

We drove from Houston and once in SA remembered the Bobby Flay throwdown. We just had to try the tacos. I had the fajitas, my husband had the cabrito, my sister had green enchiladas and bro in law had tacos de carne quisada. My fajitas were not from the grill. Cabrito was dry and not simmered with salsa. Green enchiladas were too bland, green sauce very runny. Puffy tacos were not great, very little ground beef. We were disappointed, especially with the high prices. The waiter was very nice. Pros: Loved the patio Cons: food not good more

Overpriced and below average 1/15/2009

This restaurant is extremely overpriced and the food is bland and below average. They charge for every extra item, including 4 dollars for a side of guacamole. Service is also very average. There are much better Mexican restaurants in San Antonio, don't waste your time on this one. more

Very nice atmosphere 7/7/2008

Had dinner here last week and the food was good but there are better mexican restaurants in SA. The margritas were very good. The overall place is very appealing. Pros: The Stuffed Shrimp was great Cons: Fajitas were okay more

Great puffy tacos!!! 6/9/2008

Yes, the food is good...the puffy tacos were worth the trip. But the service was overwhelmed, margaritas were pricy, and the food was slow to come out. Don't be intimidated by the crowded parking lot, if you'll take a table indoors, you can be seated pretty fast. great chips and salsa! more

What a great place!! Fantastic Atmosphere and the food's great too! 5/7/2008

We live out 1604 and Potranco, so this is by no means nearby, but it was well worth the drive (even in traffic). I was pretty surprised to find it so crowded on a Wednesday evening; we had to wait 20 minutes for outdoor seating, but I'm so glad we did. The patio is huge and well shaded by really beautiful tall trees. The tables were well spaced, so we didn't feel like we were on top of the people near us. There was a guy playing guitar and singing popular favorites by the likes of Jimmy Buffet and Neil Diamond- he was great. The volume level was also excellent. Loud enough that we could hear him, but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other. \r The chips are thicker than I like, but the salsa was really spicylicious! We got the puffy tacos because, well, we went here because my friend saw the Bobby Flay Puffy Taco Throwdown on the Food Network and wanted to check it out. They were delicious, as expected, so that was great. The tea wasn't great, I had to switch to water, but no biggie. Overall, LOVE THIS PLACE. We'll be back as soon as my husband returns from TDY. Very pleasant experience! Pros: great atmosphere, good food, live music on the patio Cons: thick chips (personal preference for thin chips), ice tea wasn't great more

Such a great place to take company! 4/3/2008

I love La Hacienda! There food is always great, but more than that they have created a charming environment to enjoy it in! more
