Before today, I'd have reviewed this as a somewhat overpriced but good neighborhood spot. Maybe I was slightly skeptical of the customer service... but maybe quality's worth it, eh? No. Never again.
Today, I get interested in the to go lunch menu. Never tried it before. Sliders, fries, salad. $11.50. A touch pricey, but heck with it. I order it, plus a couple pastries. She rings me up, hands me the receipt.
Kobe sliders 12.50. Not 11.50 like on the sign 12.50.
I stand patiently in my spot while the cashier ignores me and fills the next person's order. ""Were you done?"" finally is asked by the customer.
""I had a question."" I say. Cashier asks why. ""Well it says the burger's 11.50 on the menu but you charged me 12.50.
""Because it is 12.50.""
Beat. She continues dealing with the next customer.
""My niece forgot to change the sign.""
Okay, I think. So you've dealt with this problem before, but haven't gotten around to fixing your sign. We're talking about one sheet of paper printed on inkjet, not some big hard-to-redo sign.
""Well you can just give me back the dollar in quarters if you like."" I say.
""Everyone who comes in and orders knows it's 12.50!"" she whines.
""Well I've never ordered these and I didn't know that.""
Cashier yells in back, summons the niece, rattles off a gripe.
""Just give him the dollar!"" the niece says.
Cashier returns to register, passive-aggressively tells me to enjoy my dollar.
Unfathomable. Don't try to guilt trip me over asking about this!
Wait- it gets worse. Then I see a woman staring at me. She carries with her the air of authority. Owner. Since I'm waiting for my order and have the time, I edge in a discreet conversational distance so as not to force the cashier to overhear the customer service critique I'm about to give.
In my mind, it's something to the tune of ""You know, from a customer service perspective, when a mistake like this occurs, the customer's complaint shouldn't be brushed off.""
I get to ""you know, from a Customer Service prospective-- "" and the owner growls ""YOU'RE LUCKY IT WASN'T ME CUZ I'D BE SCREAMING AT YOU.""
I wish I'd asked for my money back. No food is worth being abused by the staff.
