Italian Village deserves to be called as CitySearch's best. This is my favorite Italian restaurant in the hood. Their food reminds me of my visit to Italy when I was younger. Amaz...

My girlfriend and I were excited to try an Italian Village restaurant, so we decided to go with La Cantina. (The restaurant downstairs.) Besides the fact they seat you in the hall...

Poured Sauce Down My Back and Barely Said ""Sorry"" 11/6/2010

Food was just mediocre. Service was awful - server poured hot sauce down my back, the ""Concierge Liaison"" barely apologized, and offered little consolation. I am not from Chicago, it seems like a lot of support is sentimental, it is certainly not the service or the quality of the food. If you don't have loving memories of your parents taking you there as a child, I would highly recommend going someplace professional and with some quality. more

Delicious food 9/2/2010

I am a big fan of Italian food, and this place is pretty excellent. They use top-quality ingredients in the food, and the service is exceptional. My wife and I usually get the Cacciucco, and top it off with a Tiramisu. If you're taking your family, I don't suggest going on a Friday of Saturday night the wait is forever. Overall, I enjoy Italian Village! more

Wonderful Dining in the Loop! 8/4/2010

Spent the day in the Loop! Saw the Tasset Eye in Prikzer Park - went to Millinuem Park and then headed to the Italian Villlage. They were packed! But , the wait was not more than 15 minutes ...we had a drink in the bar and munched on the complimentary pizza. When seated we were in a quaint booth. After looking around I noticed they were all named after places - but in Italian...the Library-Jail- hospital etc. The atmosphere was fun. The bustling of the waiters the patrons talking and laughing under the twinkling lites...I loved it! I had the Chicken Marsala...the wine sauce was just sweet enough, and the mushrooms were large and still firm. My friend had the Spagetti and meatballs (which I found out later every critic in Chicago chooses this dish as the best and favorite), we both had dinner salads included, so I felt a bigger bang for my buck! Our desserts were the tiramisu and the canoli...so good! and last but not least our wine was divine. The list is a phonebook so we had the Wine Director select a few from our desired price point of $50.00. He actually picked on at $42.00! How often does that happen? Our server was happy - knew his menu back and forth - and everything thing from the kitchen was timely. We had a wonderful experience will recommend the Italian Village and be back! more

Low Quality Italian Food 6/29/2010

From the start a basket of stale breadsticks and poor quality unheated bread was placed on the table. I get bread in Brooklyn, NY as good as they bake in Italy so I know the difference. The tomato sauce was not good, they are certainly not using San Marzano tomatoes. The stuffed pasta dish, agnolotti, was not filled enough with ricotta or fresh spinach and the risotto was dry and not creamy. I have dined in the best Italian restaurants in NY, Philly, Boston, Montreal, Chicago and more and this is terrible the owners should be ashamed of themselves in a great restaurant city like Chicago serving food like this. Anyone that thinks The Village is good Italian does not know Italian food. Even worse I brought a group in here from NY and this was a bad food experience for all. Cons: Poor Quality Bread And Tomato Sauce more

Welcome to Italy 3/9/2010

talk about old Italian rustic charm! My family love going to this place because of their great food and of course, their spacious, cozy and very homey arrangement of the place. I love their ministrone, antipasto and their thin crust pizza. these have become a regular order for us every visit. also love their chicken parmigiana, ravioli and frutta di mare. all their food is great but I have to say that these are my personal favorites! if you haven't been here, you should drop by and see for yourself how great this place is. worth every penny! Pros: minestrone, wine, pizza, place more

Teriffic Place to Eat 12/29/2009

After reading the reviews, I gave this place a try. I found it to be quite.......great! We had a bunch of appetizers, wine and dessert. The calamari was cooked perfectly. I found the food to be a great value and VERY tasty! I look forward to trying out the other two restaurants located in the same building and run by the same family. Because of the good reviews, I was definitely pointed in the right direction! Pros: Great Food more

Awesome Service and Italian Food 12/29/2009

Recently took my family here as my sister was in town from California. We were seated in a very charming booth, which could have sat six, so it was quite spacious. We were immediately greeted by our server, and had bread and our drinks promptly. We ordered the chicken vesuvio, the osso bucco, chicken marsala and veal parmigan, the chicken vesuvio took a bit longer to cook, but it came out fresh and very good. After the meal we were treated to a sampling of the desserts. Tiramasu, cheesecake, a chocolate mousse which was to die for, and some cannolis. For four of us, our bill came out to under $100 and the portions were huge. Great value and price. The Village is very quaint with its hand painted murals on the wall, you feel like you are in an authentic Italian Village. I will definitely be back!! Pros: Fantastic portion size and excellent cuisine more
