Absolutely Love this place! Great quality food all the time! A hidden little treasure in the South Loop area.

I ordered delivery and was pleasantly surprised by how quickly it arrived. My boyfriend got the Beef Nachos and they arrived a bit soggy...which I can't really blame them for since Nacho's are a terrible delivery choice. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which were delicious. We also got an order of guac which was delicious. All in all I'd say it was great for your run of the mill Mexican delivery and it definitely hit the spot. I thought the prices were a LITTLE high for what they do but they don't have a delivery minimum and their delivery charge is reasonable. more

The food was great as always! However, the minimum amount for delivery is high considering the low prices at La Cantina. I found myself ordering more food than I needed just to have delivery so as much as I love the food, I won't be ordering there anymore. I will be going in (when I can) more

I saddens me to write this review. I'm a lover of grub hub and have been an active ordered since 2008 and this is my first review. La Cantina is hit or miss--point blank period. I've had some of the best Mexican food in the city from here (Pollo a la Parrilla) but I have also had some of the most poorly executed food too. Order carefully and call to ensure they are on their game. more

Horrid Experience All Around 2/15/2012

The highlight of this meal was that we had a groupon and did not pay full price. My fiance and I went yesterday and it being Valentine's Day we called ahead last week to see if we needed reservations. Erica told us no we did not but when we got there at 6:30 last night, yes you did. ""Luckily"" for us we only had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table. We ordered our margaritas and guacamole and they brought us the standard chips and salsa. While the margarita's were quite big for the price I'm still trying to find the tequila in mine. The chips, salsa and guac, I will say, were pretty good. We ordered our entree's and about 15 minutes later they brought my full fajita dinner out and then the waitress giggles and says I'm sorry I forgot to push the button on yours (to my fiance) it will be right out....what we learned about 15-20 minutes later was she didnt put his order in at all. So here we sit with my food in front of me and nothing for him. I find it rude to eat when my date has nothing so I didn't touch my food. Naturally when they brought his and we began to eat, mine was already cold. The saving grace in that was it had zero taste so it really wouldn't have mattered if it was warm or not. To make up for the error the waitress offers us a complimentary dessert. Which I thought was nice, however, it took another 20 minutes to get a scoop of vanilla ice cream and hard, tasteless churros (a dessert she recommended to us). We got no refills or offers for refills for our cocktails and we had to practically tackle the bus boy for more water. This restaurant would have gotten zero stars if not for the groupon and the waitresses attempt to make up for the poor service. Two and half hours were wasted in this restaurant and needless to say we will not be going back. more

So not worth it 8/11/2008

I only have two things to say about this place: over-priced, and tasteless. Don't bother. Get on the bus and head over to Pilsen instead. Pros: Ambience was ok, very dark. Has a nice small bar area and small outdoor seating. Cons: The food was completely bland and tasteless. more

Delivery was very fast, arrived before estimated arrival time. Very large portions. Rellanos were very good as were the chicken enchiladas. Not spectacular food, but very good for take out. Will probably order from here again. more

Awesome Mexican food, Great Margaritas, Great Tequila list 5/13/2008

I have been going to this place for about 2 years. The food was good in the beginning, but it got better about a year ago. The margaritas are really good. Their food is really authentic. I know b/c my parents are from Mexico City and I lived there for 3 years. Almost everything that I have tried here is very authentic. I am a tequila lover, and they have a great tequila list. They servers and bartenders are great. If you ever need anything, one of the owners is usually there to accomodate. Very friendly, great service, great drinks, great atmosphere, and great food. Pros: Food, service, drinks, ambience Cons: Parking more

Comparing this place to Taco Bell is an insult--- to Taco Bell 3/13/2008

The chips were burned, cold, and not crispy and the salsa was green and tasteless. The chimichanga was also very very dark, you couldn't cut the fried tortilla shell with a fork, and the meat inside was dry and tasted like cardboard. It ws terrible. Literally the worst chimi I have ever had and I have eaten hundreds of chicken chimichangas. The beans looked like they were out of can and the spanish rice out of an envelope. The only saving grace was that my $6.95 margarita was decent but a little pricey for a small. My favorite mexican restaurant in my home town charges $.99 for a small or $6.00 for a whole pitcher on Thursday nights and they are potent. $24.00 including tip for one entree and a small margarita plus $10 for a cab was a little much for such a bad experience. Judging by the number of customers in there tonight this place won't be around long although it did look like they were doing some delivery business. However, bad mexican food is bad mexican food whether its delivered or eaten inside the restaurant. This place would be perfect for Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. Pros: It's hard to screw up a margarita Cons: burned hard chips, dry dry meat, bland taste, bad beans, testeless rice, overpriced more

Best Margaritas in the city! 5/23/2007

La Cantina has the BEST margaritas in the city. Every Friday there is a great little duo that sings. They are as good as the food. I love their Pollo a la Brasa and ceviche. There is no other place like this in the Loop or South Loop. I work in the Loop and we go there for lunch all the time. They have a great lunch menu with lower prices and quick service. Highly recommended. Pros: Food, Ambience Cons: Parking more

Margartia Mondays Rule 4/3/2007

I visited la cantina for the first time about 2 months ago & it was a great treat. We didn't have dinner, but the Margaritas were fantastic! I had such a great time, I've been back several more times. The food is delicious & the drinks are ""to die for"" This is a cool spot to hang out! Pros: Cool Decor & fire place. Good drinks & Food more

BY FAR THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN CHICAGO 3/25/2007

I love this place. If you have traveled to Mexico, you can appreciate the flavor this place offers. it is very authentic, i had chicken with mole sauce and my husband had the steak. Both were delicious, everything was so fresh and juicy, oh and the the margaritas are awesome. i highly recommend this restaurant as one of the best. i enjoy mexican food, and i can't believe this place is in chicago, i felt like i was in mexico. Pros: taste, decor, service and prices more

1 hour 40 minutes for 7 block delivery, ice cold food, terrible tacos 2/27/2007

I work in the service industry so I expect a lot out of restaurants for my money. When I order dinner and you tell me 45 minutes, and after 2 phone calls it arrives 1 hour and 45 minutes later ice cold, I am upset. Had the food been warm or hot and very good, this review would be a 7, but I had to eat a rubbery ice cold taco dinner and my dessert was ruined because you could not put it in a separate container as I kindly asked you to. I called up and could barely hear you, I had no idea you were a music club, as your menu screams of nice restaurant when I pay 45 dollars for 2 dinners, dessert, and an appetizer. Either figure out how to run a restaurant, or leave the South Loop. We already have a taco bell.\r Printers Row Reviewer Pros: decent wings Cons: terrible delivery service, mediocre food, and a waste of money more

Cozy Spot w/ great eats! 2/27/2007

I received a postcard from la cantina & realized it was just a few blocks from my place. \r So, I decided to give them a try. I stopped in on a Friday for dinner & it was very busy. They had guys playing live music, so we sat at the bar & waited for a table. The music was really cool, it kind of felt like we were on vacation. When we were seated, I noticed the place wasn't to big. However, the feeling was warm & cozy. They have a fireplace, so it makes for a romantic spot. The food was really good & the drinks were also really good. I like the atmosphere & will definitely recommend it to anyone. I intend to be a regular, it's a great spot to hang out. Food is priced right. TWO THUMBS UP! Pros: Cool decor, Really good food, good music, really cozy & romantic Cons: a bit packed, but it's not really a con. What really good place would be empty! more

GREAT DRINKS AND SERVICE, BUT WHERE IS THE FLAVOR 12/28/2006

I LIVE IN THE HOOD AND HAVE BEEN HERE 3 TIMES. THE DRINKS ARE GREAT AS IS THE SERVICE. THE FOOD WAS GREAT THE FIRST TIME AND THE LAST TWO, THE MEAT HAS LACKED...WELL FLAVOR. I AM NOT SURE IF THEY GOT A NEW COOK OR WHAT, BUT IT HAS BEEN AVERAGE THE LAST TWO TIMES. THE CHICKEN WAS DRY AND MY WIFE'S MEAT WAS BLAND. IT IS A NICE ADDITION TO THE SOUTH LOOP, BUT STILL NEEDS A LITTLE FINE TUNING. Pros: DRINKS, SERVICE, AND PRICE Cons: AS OF LATE, BLAND FOOD! more

Food, Fun, and Good Scenery in the South Loop 11/22/2006

I saw this place open a few months ago and never tried it. I live right by it and never was inclined to try it out. I saw it listed in Chicago magazine as a ""hot spot"" and decided it might be worth a try. I called to make reservations, but they don't take any. When I got there, I understood why. The place is pretty small, but very busy. I was with a few friends from the neighborhood and we had some drinks at the bar before sitting down. We tried a few different flavors of margaritas, all were awesome. The food was really good and inexpensive. Our waitress was very hot and one of my friends asked her out to no avail, but she handled it nicely. I will be back soon. Pros: food, service, price, decor more
