I've never been here for the buffet, just a regular dinner, so I can't comment on the other posters' reviews. However, my friend and I ate here last week - I had a shrimp dish, and he had a chicken dish, and both were very good. I have eaten plenty of Indian food and have been to India twice, the food here is best skipped. A couple dishes were okay, but overall it was bland, soggy, cold or a mixture of the three. The people who gave this joint 5 stars are either fake reviews or don't know what good indian food is supposed to taste like, in my humble opinion, of course. Went to a lunch buffet there and it was disgusting. What little food was out was not held at a high enough temp to keep it from growing bacteria. went here for brunch a few weeks ago and i have to say its about the worst experience ive ever had. walked into brunch with my gf and the 35 people already there were complaining when we walked in. we went to get the buffet only to find that 90% of the tins for the buffet were empty. for a place that advertises the best indian buffet on the ues, this place falls far short of that self awarded moniker. i thought i could brush it off to the several land mammals that were in the restaurant grazing over the buffet tins, but once i realized that there were people other than them complaining that there wasnt any food, i quickly realized a problem. the staff, poorly dressed with stained shirts, were refilling the tins with salad bowl sized portions. as soon as the tins were ""filled"", a land mammal would scoop the meager provisions out of the tin. the staff then had the audacity to tell me that they was bringing things out and that i should get things while they were hot. i told him that filling things piece meal and in quantities not fit for the 35 people waiting for food was unacceptable. the idea of a buffet is to have everything ready so that i can pick and choose what i want to eat, not have to pick at what is hot...er...actually available to put on my plate. couple that with the $2.50 can of soda (yes, its true) for which i was charged once the hovering server saw i wasn't leaving a tip (he waited table side while i signed the receipt and picked up the check as soon as i signed my copy) and im never coming back to this place again. head elsewhere. anywhere...like mcdonalds. A friend and I just went here for dinner and were appalled. We wanted to share a meal but the waiter insisted we must order two separate meals as the portions were too small for two people. We were the only two people in the whole restaurant and it took at least 45 minutes to get our food. When we did get our two entrees we were only given one rice. We asked for two but they said we had to finish the one portion first. Finally after finishing the first rice we asked for the second and got it. The food was ok....certainly nothing great. The portions were certainly large enough to share. We did not finish our food nor the second rice and when we asked to have it wrapped the waiter complained that we ordered a second rice and didn't even eat it all and now we expect it to be wrapped? We were amazed as the food was costing us over $40 for two people and he was mad because we wanted to take home our leftovers. He left the table muttering about us to the other waiter- how can they order a second rice and not even finish it- I got them a second rice. When he finally did wrap up our food 10 minutes later he simply took three pieces of chicken out of my portion and wrapped them in lumps of tin foil and threw out all the rest of my food! Indian food is primarily the sauce which he chose to throw out. Oh and did I mention one small can of coke was $2.50!!! From the minute we walked into the comfy authentic digs we were welcomed by a huge smile and treated wonderfully. Since we were not familiar with Indian food our waiter recommended a few dishes that were popular. He did a great job by suggesting one beef, one chicken and one veggie. I wish I could remember the names now because each one was so different and full of flavor. YOU MUST GET THE PAN!!!! Even the music was authentic. This is absolutely the BEST Indian food I've ever had. Hands down. I've turned all of my friends on to Simla and now they're hooked to. I'm sad to say that I've recently moved to Philadelphia. My husband and I used to eat here at least once a week, and now we're suffering withdrawal symptoms. Akbar, the owner, is wonderful and once you've eaten here a few times, he'll treat you like family. The chicken tikka masala and the sag paneer are to die for, but you can try many of their dishes at the lunch buffet on Saturday or Sunday. Unbelievably, the buffet only costs 10 bucks. Check it out. I just moved to the city and I have been set on finding a great Indian restaurant. I ordered delivery from Simla and I was very impressed. The food arrived promptly and I was pleasantly surprised in the affordability of this restaurant. Also, the food was amazing and they provided many wonderful sauces to accompany each dish. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to ordering from them again. Pros: Great food, price, service more

I've never eaten at the restaurant but have ordered take out several times. I find the food to be above average, fresh, and a great value. The curries are tasty but not overpowering as many curries can be. The samosa are large and they're two for $3.00. The sauteed spinach is my favorite. Rice is generously provided as are the sauces. For three entrees and appetizer you'll be paying around $60.00...with enough left over for another meal.\r \r Dependable, tasty, and our pick in this neighborhood for Indian...that sums up Simla! more

Every other Indian restuarant I've eaten at in NYC has had better food. I've eaten there twice--the second time purposely not ordering what I had ordered the first time. The chicken was all dark meat--the curry was not spicy at all and the paan was burned. I had the chicken liver as an apetizer and it was nothing like the chicken liver I've had at several other Indian restaurants. Everything I ordered was a disappointment. more

The entrees are reasonably priced and plentiful - one appetizer and one entree per person will leave you more than full (adding to this, the unlimited rice you can mix with the sauces). And of course, who can leave out the bread? Pros: Hospitality, Great food more
