Known simply as Sarcone's Bakery to many, this shop is located in the Bella Vista/Italian Market part of Philadelphia on a relatively quiet street. But inside is where the action is. Sarcone's is famous around here; many celebrities have visited it. The store is always busy. As soon as you enter, you are greeted by the scent of fresh bread and the sight of an "Old World" style counter and an old-fashioned balance/scale. Everything looks so nice here; nothing fancy like cake, since after all their motto is that it's "All about the bread!" You do have to be careful though. The breadsticks I recently bought were a mixed bag. (no pun intended) Some were a bit stale, while others were very fresh and crunchy. The price was okay, I guess, at $4 a pound for the sticks and 12/$3 for hoagie rolls. They also sell bread crumbs too. What I didn't like was how the staffers serve you without wearing gloves. I don't doubt their cleanliness, but still, I would appreciate that.
