Giving this store five out of five stars simply because they are geniuses when it comes to selling the right type of instruments. Thank you so much.

Treated Rudely. Try Flesher Hinton at 38th and Tennyson 9/1/2010

I walked into Kolacny music to get 2 pads and 2 pieces of cork installed on an alto I picked up. The kind lady at the counter took the saxophone to the repair guy and returned a few minutes later with "$600.00" hastily written on a napkin. When I asked how it came to be 600 dollars, she said something to the affect of "That's what the repair guy told me... it needs to be repadded and brushed."\r \r Now I'm no repair expert, so I asked what brushing meant, and why it was so essential that I needed it. At this point, another man behind the counter, apparently irritated, yelped, "If she says it costs 600 dollars to fix, it costs 600 dollars to fix!" He slammed my case shut and told me to get my horn fixed somewhere else.\r \r That said, I took the horn to another music store, Flesher Hinton. There I was able to talk directly with an expert. He made some suggestions and worked with me to find a solution. For the same services (repad and brushing) he quoted $450 dollars, but then gave me a few more

Good old Dick Kolacny. 1/28/2010

My name is Paul Warburton. I'm a pro jazz bassist and I've been doing business with the Kolacny family for about 50 some years. The repair department is one of the best, the values are more than fair and the personal service is top rate.\r The entire family, especially my old friend Dick, have supporrted me and my work thoughout those many years. The bass I played with the Bill Evans Trio, Stan Getz and many others was restored at this shop after a devastating fire. It came out sounding better that it did before. more

Instrument Repair 10/18/2008

I have brought my oboe here for repair numerous times. Each time I am pleased with the quality service, and timely help. Their location is easy to get to, and the service is friendly and helpful. For rental service we found it accommodating and appropriate for the level of player. We tried several and rented an outstanding cello for my child. more

Music help 10/9/2008

Kolacny Music was the first music store we rented from when our son became interested in playing an instrument. They are a well-established business with very knowledgeable people to help guide us in our search for the correct instrument. You can choose from strings to brass. We chose strings and continued renting instruments from them for 5 years until purchasing. They have a great plan to rent to own as well as a damage plan in the event your rental is dinged or needs new strings. more
