I looked for a sushi restaurant around downtown Jax, and found several mixed reviews about this place. A few were good reviews, so I decided to check it out. The place was moderately busy for a Friday night, though there were several empty tables. The hostess seemed nice; however, I soon found the rest of the service to be poor. The service inside really wasn't good. My waitress looked impatient and never smiled. I started to wonder if she was forced to work there. My order took an average time to arrive, I should guess between 20-30 minutes, so I won't complain about that. I was really disappointed at the quality of the sushi after reading all these ""good"" reviews. First of all, the avocado had black spots. I can understand if they didn't have the greatest looking avocado, but placing several slices of bad avocado in one of their specialty rolls is just plain bad. Where is the respect to the customer who paid for this premium roll? Sushi is supposed to look pretty and taste fresh. How about the fish? While I couldn't tell if the regular (red) tuna was fresh inside the spicy tuna roll, the white tuna was terrible in the white tuna nigiris. After I finished and paid for my meal I went to the bar to get a drink so that I could sit outside to enjoy the view of the night scenery overlooking the waterway. Sounds good? Well, not until you try to get a drink. I rate the bar attendant 1 star as well. The restaurant is inside a mall called Jacksonville Landing that probably used to be a great location to hang out, but like many other malls in the US, it also got affected by the sagging economy. There are many closed/empty stores inside and the atmosphere is depressing. Certainly this shouldn't be an excuse for bad food and service, and I can't help it but rate this place only 1 star for not making the effort to be one of the best sushi restaurants in the area. I tried this place and won't go back.
