Editorial review from Citysearch 2/26/2014

Dr Kohli was very thourough with my mom. She heard a murmur in her chest upon examining her heart. At a routine appointment. She ordered an echo right away and what came after was something very rare. Dr Kohli sent my mom to cardiologist who diagnosed her with Myxoma. That is a very rare Tumor of the heart. It can cause sudden heart attacks. My mom was having open heart surgery a week later. The surgeon removed the Tumor, it was benign. Thank God. If it wasn't for her immediate reaction to the murmur my mom, who had no other symptoms what so ever...would have been walking around with a tumor almost filling up her left atrium. Thank you Dr Kohli. From all of us. more

Nandi Kohli 1/9/2012

My name is AZ and I am a patient of Nandini Kohli. I highly recommend Nandini because she is very experienced and she saves me a lot time as a patient. She never turns me down when I call for an appointment regardless. Every time I go to see her. She always find out exactly what's wrong me and diagnoses the right medicine for me. She always saves time as I extremely busy and I travel too much. She is a talented, experienced, honest and wonderful doctor. I am lucky to have her as my doctor. I highly recommend Dr. Kohli. more

Warm and Thorough 2/28/2011

I have rated Dr. Kohli high because of her degree of compassion and medical experience. After three-plus years in Austin searching for a primary care physician and being disappointed after four attempts, Dr. Kohli was recommended by a great specialist I lucked-up on. more

An Excellent Internist 1/12/2011

Dr. Kohli was recommended to me by my sister. Both my husband and I have been patients of Dr. Kohli's for quite some time now. As I'm rarely sick, I had not had occasion to see her all that often -- until recently. I was having episodes of unexplained dizziness and feeling faint, coupled with a racing heart and sometimes double vision. Dr. Kohli ran all sorts of tests, all of which came back negative. However, she was persistent. Finally, because of a suspicion she had, she ordered an echocardiogram. As it turns out, I have rheumatic heart disease. Dr. Kohli sent me to a cardiologist with the Austin Heart Hospital. He did more extensive testing and explained how my heart is enlarged and one of my valves is damaged so that it does not close properly when it is supposed to. Now that I am on medication, my symptoms have subsided. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Kohli. Other doctors dismissed my symptoms as ""being in my head,"" but had Dr. Kohli not been so thorough and knowledgeable, I would not have learned of my heart disease until, perhaps, it was too late! more

Worst Experience Ever! 8/30/2010

In June this year i was down with a strep throat and felt miserable. This was the first time in three years that I was looking for a doctor in Austin, TX. I managed to get an appointment at Dr Nandini Kohli's office at a short notice which was good. However, everything after reserving my spot was miserable! Here it goes... Was feeling weak since i could not eat or drink for a couple of days. Somehow managed to reach the doctor's office 15 mins before the appointment. There was no patient in the reception lobby. I walked to the reception counter and after waiting for about 2 mins (which felt like a long time) the receptionist cared to look - away from the computer screen - at me. I told her about my appointment and she gave me a bulk load of documentation to fill. I sat in the lobby and started with the paper work. While doing so i had a look around the office to see flyers for promotion of different procedures and discounts stuck on the walls. It felt like a cheap massage parlor! I was hurt to see a noble profession converted into a money making business. I know it is a business, but be subtle about it! Anyways, once i submitted the document, i was asked to wait until called. I took my seat and waited. It took about 20 mins for a nurse to call my name. It was 35 mins since i entered the office by then. I was taken into an examination room where the assistant did the routine BP and other check. She also took a strep sample from my mouth which was a bad experience. While she left, i was told that the doctor would see me soon. It took 25 mins (1:05 mins after i walked in) for me to loose my patience to call for an assistant to check on the doctor. After about 8 to 10 mins (1:15 mins after i walked in) of additional waiting, there she walks in! I was surprised to she her! I had expected an Indian, but the female who walked in looked more white than indian! And then, the best part! She introduces herself as a nurse practitioner who would attend me as the doctor is busy. I was so furious at that time and hated myself for picking this place. She fooled around for 10 mins and gave me a prescription of a drug. No offence, but when i want to see a doctor, i want a doctor! If you can't attend, please do not accept appointments! I did not even get a glimpse of the doctor. She is like a phantom to me! I did not bother to complain and was ready to leave. When i was at the door, it struck me that they had not charged me the deductible. I went to the receptionist, who was like, ""what do you want now ?"" attitude. I told her about the deductible. Rather being nice she was thankless and just charged me for it. Whatever! So i took the medication for 10 days. I was warned by the nurse that i may have a few loose stools but she never told me that those loose stools will continue for a month! I am not inflating my time line. It took me 30 days to come back to my regular motion. I had decided to write a review as soon as i left the office but did not want to give a knee-jerk reaction. Took two months to get over it in order to provide an objective review. Good luck to those who end up at Dr Nandini Kohli's office! Please feel free to reach me for any questions. Will be happy to answer those! Regards Chirag more

bad experience, stay away 5/14/2009

My experience was not good. She was very good in my first visit but was very rude in the follow up visits. I was waiting for nearly 1hr and 45 mins before she attended me. I am not going to her again. When my husband asked the nurse why was it taking 2 hrs, Dr. Kohli told me (in her exact words) ""Tell your husband that I did not kil* you"" !! She also pushed for many things that i never need .... be aware ..... Pros: easy to get appointments Cons: very long waiting time - very rude doctor more

HORRIBLE!!!! She is the most unprofessional doctor I have ever seen or dealt with. I had her as my PCP till last year and she spent 5 minutes doing the check up and 20 minutes chit-chatting about other things. Rather than Typing at her time, she would start typing with the patient and waster additional 15 mins doing so. more

Very good doctor - highly recommended 1/17/2009

Dr. Nandini's diagnosis is always excellent. She spends time with me explaining my situation and the reason behind the prescriptions and / or tests. I have found my general health to have improved since signing up under her care. I highly recommend her. I haven't had any problems with unnecessary and expensive tests as yet, but will be careful going forward based on other's reviews. more

worst doctor ever 8/21/2008

I do not recommend her at all. I am 60 years old and I asked her if she was going to check my prostate and she told me that her fingers are too small. Then, she told me that if I do not use my insurance she would charge me $90 but I have a $20 copay so I used that. Since I used my insurance she charged $240 and my insurance said that they would not pay that much for a checkup. Then, I saw a sign in her office that said $35 flu shot. That was a little bit more then most places (HEB was only $25); however, I was already there and she was my doctor so I did not mind. But when I recieved the bill she charged me $35 for the shot and another $35 administration fee. Also, I wanted to stop smoking so I asked her if she would prescribe me medication to help; entead of encouraging me she said that I would not be able to stop smoking because I had an ""addictive personality."" It has been 22 months since I have stopped smoking and I did not appreciate her discouraging me. I have switched doctors and I do not reccomend her at all!! more

STAY AWAY 1/7/2008

I completely agree with the previous negative reviews. I went there for an immigration physical. Pros: They're in a good location Cons: You'll pay more than you've bargain for more

Got Sc**wed on Immigration medical exam!! 8/1/2007

I completely agree with the previous review. Me and my wife also went there for an immigration medical. Between the two of us, we were RIPPED OFF for an amout of $1700 (Normal amout is between $300 and $600 for TWO FOLKS). Pros: Are for the Doctor/Hospital, who swindled us! Cons: Are for us, when we got ripped off on $1700! more

No recommended 6/25/2007

We went for immigration medical exam. She is collecting money by giving vaccines which are not necessary at all. Instead of paying around 300 dollars, we ended up paying around 700 dollars for each. Without knowing it I have referred 2 friends and they also faced the same problem. Just want to share my experience. Cons: So Many more

Excellent Compassionate Doctor 3/1/2007

I have been seeing Dr Kohli for more than two years. I have found her to be very compassionate and informative. She does spend time with her patients to gather information on their daily lives so that she can better understand what may be creating possible problems in their systems. This can lead to back ups in the waiting room. I have recommended her to my sons as their personal physician and they also like her as well, finding her to be very thorough. It is important to connect and trust your doctor, this is something I can do with Dr Kohli without reservation. Pros: Magazines are up to date, clean, staff is friendly, doctor is terrific Cons: Wait time could be improved as with most doctors more

Stay Away 1/4/2007

Definitely not recommended. On several occasions she has ""forgotten"" to tell us of the nasty side effects of the meds she prescribed; leading to follow up visits where she dismissively remembers to tell you (once you've paid the fees and wasted your time visiting and waiting of course). Cons: Long waits more

Good diagnostician 12/6/2006

Dr. Kohli is my elderly mother's doctor and she has done a great job of diagnosing her and referring her to the right specialists when needed. Her treatment has always been first rate. She treats with respect and compassion but doesn't get mushy. The only complaint I have is sometimes having to wait a long time to be seen but other than that she's done a great job. Her staff is friendly and understanding and helpful, too. I really like my own do and wouldn't want to switch but mine retired, Kolhi would be my choice. more
