Not the same as it was 9/10/2008

I used to work here and before it got bought it was great. As soon as another company took it over everyone like me quit. They haven't really even updated it and it's more drama than it's worth. I reccomend Davidyourstylist or GHITA JONES they were both my assisants at one time and are very talanted and working in the area at much better places. more

hated it 6/19/2008

Ever since it changed ownership it has gone downhill. Recently had the worst experience. They have the most inexperienced staff. I had a facial there the women left the room at least 6 times and would not stop talking when she was actually there. I thought a facial was suppose to be relaxing. I took my sister, grandma and mom there and found out later they all had a bad experience. I called to complain and it took them 5 days to get back to me. They did not even apologize or least say they would take care of it. There are plenty of spas in chicago this one is off my list. Pros: they are actually still in business Cons: they have no clue how customers should be treated more

Great Brazilian Wax 6/15/2008

I just moved to Chicago and was looking for a good wax. Heard good things about Kiva on E Pearson and tried it out. All the staff was very nice, and the location is beautiful. I went to Grace, for a brazilian, and she was very sweet and professional. I highly reccomend her, she's very fast, and gets the job done. Not good for parking, but where is? I will always come back here for waxes, even if I move out of the neighborhood! 5 stars. Pros: Everything Cons: no parking more

terrible customer service...and DIRTY 6/12/2008

went for a bikini wax. the waxer had a cold sore on her face - fine if she clearly kept things clean. however, she DOUBLE DIPPED - ewww - and DIDNT WEAR GLOVES - ewww. i know - my fault for not asking her to wear gloves or to NOT double dip - but i was a first -timer and i was nervous as hell. anyway, avoid this place for bikini waxes!!! double dipping is the sure route to infection. go to sisters - they are clean and fast!! Pros: location Cons: everything else more

Service and then some... 4/13/2008

The experience here was a bit unusual. The service comes across friendlier during the spa service than should be for an establishment of this nature. I guess there are many contracting massage therapist working here and rotate to other spas in the city, which would explain the solicitation for home (mine or hers) massage services. more

Lousy. 3/17/2008

I went to Kiva for a massage with a friend. The "quiet room" stinks. It's too small and the salon has done nothing to create a calming atmosphere. My massage was just okay. The steam room was broken that day and I had been looking forward to that. Then, as I was checking out, I asked the girl ringing my massage if she could wait while I quickly grabbed two candles ($30 each) and she was annoyed! I asked her if I was putting her out--while thinking "excuse me for wanted to spend even more money here". There was not anyone else in the checkout line but me! The bottom line is there are nicer salons (try Mario Tricocci in the 900 bld) that make every effort to insure that you get the very most out of your salon and service experience. Both my friend and I agreed we'd never go back. Pros: None! Cons: A staff that does not care about your experience. more

Not worth it- would not return 12/10/2007

Had never been to this spa before and will never go back. Way to crowded and not sure why. No atmosphere, the dressing rooms are tiny, the steam room was not working, the "relaxing room" and I use that term loosing is just sad. My friend and I had to share a foot stool to sit and wait. The massage I had was okay but felt very rushed. Overall nothing really good to say about the place you either go to a spa for the experience/atmosphere or the treatment and Kiva has either of them. more

NEED GREAT HAIR??? 9/26/2007

I used to have my HAIR CUT and HIGHLIGHTED by a guy here named SERGE. He is an INTERNATIONAL HAIRSTYLIST with some incredible talent, but he's not here anymore and I don't know where he went. I heard that his former assistant GHITA JONES is now at the SALON AT SAKS FIFTH AVENUE just down the street at 700 N MICHIGAN AVENUE 60611. He always talked about her being the BEST of any of his former assistants. I booked my end-of summer- highlights with her right away and was AMAZED by the gorgeous natural looking color result! I sure miss Serge, but Ghita is a RISING STAR for sure and I can't wait to see what she does with my haircolor for fall! P.S. While you're there, get your eyebrows sculpted with SHELBY- amazing!!! more

Worst pedicure experience ever 3/31/2007

I had a gift certificate and went for a massage - massage was OK. Thought I'd also get a pedicure which turned out to be the worst pedicure ever. My toes hurt when she cut my nails and still many days after the pedicure. Bad service starting with the front desk to the nail technician, the didn't make you feel comfortable at all. And I know now that I will never leave "Nordstrom Spa" again after this experience! more

Overpriced 2/27/2007

I paid way too much for a massage that wasn't worth it. I dropped about 115. The person was not really good at giving massages. The massage also ended below the 55 minutes that I bought. The service wasn' t great. The dressing room was probably the only thing that was worth it -- but definitely not 115 dollars worth more

Arrogant on the phones, not much better at the front desk 1/25/2007

The first hurdle at Kiva is getting someone to answer the phone. If you manage to get someone to answer, the next trick is not getting put on hold for 10 minutes or more. Once you have a live human being, you still have a problem because they're more concerned with themselves than helping you get an appointment. Talk about arrogance. It wasn't worth the trouble. more

kiva day spa 8/1/2006

I was recently at Kiva and had a very enjoyable experience. Before I booked my appointments I read the comments on this website and decided to take my chances, well I must say that I'm glad that I did. I also notice that the main complaint is the cancellation policy, I don't understand how someone can think that it is fair to monopolize someone else's time and wait until the last minute to decide that you don't want the appointment. This is how these people make their money and their time should be respected. I also believe that there is an exception to every rule and if you have a reasonable request I'm sure that it would be accepted. more

Eyelash Extensions 5/4/2006

A friend recommended that I hire a professional makeup artist for my wedding and that I get eyelash extensions. I took her advice and am so happy that I did. Latonya, the makeup artist, is extremely talented. My skin is not in the best condition, but by the time she was finished it looked flawless. The eyelashes looked so natural that no one could tell they weren't my own. And, compared to many other salons, the eyelash service fee is surprisingly quite reasonable. Overall, my experience at Kiva was wonderful. It is a soothing environment. The staff was very accommodating and genuinely kind. Pros: Relaxing Atomsphere, Friendly Service, Valet Parking more

Horrible Service 1/27/2006

I never even made it into the salon - but I managed to receive horrible service over the phone. I had booked an appointment and due to falling ill had to cancel. The receptionist informed me that my credit card would be charged. Upon booking the appointment a credit card number was never requested of me. When communicating this with the receptionist she told me that I needed to provide her with one because that was the policy. Needless to say I didn't and I hung up on her. The cancellation policy is ridiculous- totally would never go there as a result! Pros: none Cons: service more

Great Facials...bad cancellation policy.. 1/22/2006

I had a few great experiences at Kiva. The massages and facials are terrific. Karen Michaelson is a great. Her facials are so relaxing, I fell asleep! She was very informative and ...well just good at what she does. I work in a salon...and I thought my experience was great. However, because of their cancellation policy I have not returned, after being charged full price for something I could not make...that were outside of my control, I decided it just wasn't worth it. Oh well...I really loved going there!! There are other spas in Chicago that are just as good. But, Karen is totally worth making an appt for a visit. Pros: Good Facials, Good Massages Cons: cancellation policy more

Not a top spa in terms of the experience 9/18/2005

I've been to some very nice spas, and Kiva is not among them. Their waiting rooms and locker room are too small, which means that from the beginning you're tripping over people and standing in the waiting room. Their pedicures are given in those pedicure chairs you see at dive nail bars. At top spas I've been to, you sit on a regular chair or lie back, soaking your feet in a bowl with pebbles during your pedicure rather than sitting in one of those cheesy massage chairs. For $65, I can get two mani/pedis at the dive place across the street, so why pay $65 for a single pedicure at Kiva when it's the same experience? All the rooms are cramped, and you feel rushed. Kiva just doesn't get the small things, and they should for the prices they charge. Pros: Decent services Cons: Gimmicky concept, Cramped, Poor value more

User review by 659 3/7/2005

The service was wonderful at Kiva. The staff was very polite and friendly. Clients wait in the relax room-- a peaceful, dimlit room with a relaxing atmosphere. My deep tissue massage was amazing, and the masseuse was very attentive to my needs. The overall experience was excellent. Pros: relaxing, atmosphere, service Cons: expensive more

A bit snooty... 10/15/2002

Excellent facials, OK manicures and pedicures. Customer services is a bit snobby. Not a warm and friendly place. Nothing special about the services. I prefer to go somewhere a little more friendly Pros: Convenient Locaction Cons: Attitude of Employees more

  • The main floor salon and reception area is sleek and upscale, buzzing with business-like activity. Ascend the curved staircase to the spa, where rounded walls, earthy tones and soft flute music create a calming effect. Slip into a robe and slippers before unwinding in the relaxation room with a cup of chamomile tea. Spa treatments range from traditional to unusual. Work out tension and knots with a Swedish massage or drift into a deep calm with a personalized aromatherapy massage. For something a little more exotic, try a stone massage. In this signature treatment, warmed, smooth stones are applied in long fluid massage strokes to stimulate tired muscles. Cocoon therapies allow you to luxuriate between warmed sheets as oil, minerals or botanical ingredients revitalize your skin. Other services include exfoliation therapies, facials, make-up application, manicures and pedicures. The spa also features a full-service salon.
