This soulful, family-run restaurant is a must everytime I visit Seattle. Authentic Southern? I wouldn't know and, frankly, don't care. The food is always excellent (fried chicken, catfish, chicken and dumplings--I haven't been disappointed yet), and the atmosphere is cozy and convivial. The wait can be long (reservations aren't taken, and people stand in line up to a half hour before the doors open), but snag a spot at the bar or stand and order a beer while you wait and soak in the scene. The vintage family photos around the restaurant and the gorgeous rainbow collection of local faces eating, drinking and laughing make for fine entertainment while you gear up for what's sure to be one of the better meals you've had in town. And save room for dessert, if at all possible; order the strawberry shortcake or anything chocolate (two to a dessert--they're huge!) and enjoy.
Pros: Lively atmosphere, Excellent food, Mixed crowd
Cons: Long waits
