Bay Area's best Chinese buffet 4/5/2011

Houston's Bay Area has some good Chinese buffets, but I think King Buffet wins out by a nose. I went many years ago (8-9?) when they first opened and was not impressed. But returned about a year ago and now I go for specific items. My favorite is grilled spicy shrimp with onions and jalapenos. I've had this dish at other buffets, but none compare. Potstickers are the best here, too. Fried rice is as good as if you ordered off the menu. And fried fish is pretty good. Everything else is just average, but the shrimp and potstickers alone are worth the price of the buffet. They do a good job keeping the items stocked. Servers are friendly, but the tall male cashier, not so much. It's not the largest buffet, but based on the spicy shrimp, potstickers and fried rice, I give them 5 stars (among buffets, of course). more

a buffet worth the drive.... 11/2/2008

My family and I have also been going to King Buffet since they opened. Now I live about 15 miles away in Texas City. We have a Chinese buffet, but not like King Buffet! My husband, kids and I are happy to make the drive to Friendswood to eat here, and see my dad, of course! My dad and step-mom love this place too! The food is top notch, especially the sushi! Pros: food, service Cons: can't think of any.... more

High marks for variety and decor. Quality above avg. A good choice for BUFFET-QUALITY Chinese. 8/31/2008

Very nicely (and tastefully) decorated for a buffet joint, and the food was slightly above average in variety and quality FOR A BUFFET (let's face it, we're not going to a buffet for P.F. Chang quality...it's about variety and quantity!). Kung Pao is my usual favorite; unfortunately, I found theirs was pretty bad. I'd say it was the worst thing that crossed my plate there (and trust me... plenty of things crossed my plate :) ). \r Overall, the total package--location, variety, decor, and value--work for me, so I'm recommending it. In fact, I'm going back for lunch today! more

Other Chinese Buffets in the area better to eat at. 3/16/2007

They double charge for take out food. 10/31/2006

They cheat you on food by overpricing. You need to really check. I went in and got less then 1 pound of food. I tell you it was not a lot, the guy charged me for 2 lbs of food. I question him on it, and he was very defiant about it being 2 lbs of food. They do not have a monitor for the customer to see how much food it really is. So that is how they are able to get away with it.\r Beware that they will charge you more for dinner take out.. They double charge. I would not eat here. more

Great Chinese Food, the BEST! 8/9/2005

Our family has been going to King Buffet ever since they opened 9 years ago. We love the food and we love the staff. Everyone is so friendly to us and so accomodating. The food is GREAT, they have so many good things on the buffet including boiled shrimp, crawfish, oysters, all kinds of sushi and the normal favorites: sesame chicken, pepper steak, lemon chicken, broccoli chicken (my favorite), lo mein noodles, chicken legs/wings, FRIED shrimp, sweet 'n sour chicken, etc, etc... It's well worth the visist, you won't be disappointed! Pros: Buffet Style, GREAT Tasting, Many items more

Not Bad for Nearby Neighborhoods 10/6/2002

I love the proximity of this restaurant to many Friendswood neighborhoods. There is a good variety of food, and the flavor is typical but not bad. The restaurant staff is friendly and it appears that they are trying to improve their buffet by adding a large selection of sushi. more
