Horse racing history 8/15/2005

The Kentucky Derby Museum is the place to go for everything Derby. It's located at historical Churchill Downs, so you know you are getting the best when you go here. With hands on displays, a tour of the backside and a walking tour of the grounds, you are seeing the true essense of The Derby when you visit this museum. Or at least as close as you can get without a ticket to the actual race. In my experience there is something for eveyone at this museum. There is history for the history buffs, racing for anyone who is interested in that and even for those who don't care for either, there are the beautiful horses to admire. more

No better place to go than here to learn about the Derby! 8/12/2005

The Kentucky Derby Museum is located right next to Louisville's historic and world known Churchill Downs. The museum is the best known collection, in my opinion, of Derby memorabilia that you can find anywhere. With your tour, you can watch a short film that gives you a better insight of the historical significance of the Derby ( race facts, horses, jockeys, etc.) Once the film is over, you can walk around the museum and actually see a "replica" of a horse. When I went, you could sit on the horse and have someone take your picture if you brought your own camera. Hopefully this has not changed. I also believe that they offer free parking on days that are not race days at the track. more

Learn More about a Great Kentucky Tradition 8/9/2005

Horse racing and Kentucky are synonymous, so if you're in town you have to check out the Kentucky Derby Museum. It's wonderful to learn more about the history of the "sport of kings." There are tons of exhibits that showcase these beautiful animals, plus their talented jockeys and trainers! I especially enjoy the tour of Churchill Downs. It's such a beautiful place, especially since they've done all the recent renovations. The tour was the first way I experienced the Downs and there's an indescribable feeling watching horses race at the most famous race track in the world with the gorgeous spires right behind you! more

Learn the History 8/4/2005

This is a great place to visit for horse racing fans to see the history behind this great sport and also the Kentucky Derby. The "Greatest 2 minutes in Sports" is the famous quote and here at the museum you'll see all the past greats, some you may have heard of and some not. They've added tons of features and renovations over the last fews years, so if it's been awhile since you checked it out, you may want to return. It's a great time for everyone is the family and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself very much. Great food also, be sure you check that out while there. more

If you love horses or horse racing, or are curious about either, this is the museum for you. Admission includes a walking tour of Churchill Downs, the museum, and a great 360-degree, high definition video production that captures the Downs on Derby Day. Don't miss the Finish Line Gift Shop on your way out. more
