Kentucky Fried Chicken, or KFC as we call it, is my absolute favorite fast food restaurant. I love their food so much that I even worked in one years ago, just so I could get the food discount!
What is it about KFC special recipe that takes an ordinary piece of chicken and turns it into a delight for the taste buds? Must be those secret ingredients! Don't get me wrong, after years of practice, I fry a pretty mean chicken -- which is delicious in its own right. But KFC, especially their original recipe chicken, can't be beat for a quick meal.
While I worked for KFC, I tried to discover just what made their chicken so tasty. The coating comes in packets -- and it lists most of the ingredients, not all of them though, as the final one was always secret ingredients! I have searched the web, purchased cookbooks that claim to have mastered the recipe, and otherwise tried to duplicate it in my own kitchen. I have come close, but just can't quite get it down. After years of trying, I concede defeat to the Master of Chicken. The only way to get the Colonel's original is to make a b-line for the KFC nearest you. For south St. Louis locals, I do recommend this particular location. The service is always good, and the food is alway top quality.
A final note -- KFC is high end for fast food. Our local ones typically have something on special though, so make sure you ask. If not, then just go for the chicken only and add you sides at home -- a can or two of veggies and a piece of fruit is almost as easy a scooping out of the take home containers! Happy eating.
