An Excellent OBGYN!!! 5/3/2012

I saw that my favorite San Antonio OBGYN, Dr. John Kellum has recently relocated his office to the Northwest side of San Antonio. Although I am not living in S.A. anymore, if I ever return, I will definitely seek him out again as my OBGYN. He delivered by first and only baby, and did an excellent job! At every pre-natal visit, I always had a million questions and he answered them all with care and without hesitation. But what really won me over to him was when I initially met him. I ended up in the Emergency Room for an extremely painful and sudden condition that was undiagnosed at the time. Fortunately, Dr. Kellum happened to be the on-call E.R. OBGYN, and ended up performing emergency surgery for a rare but severe infection that had gotten into one of my ovaries from eating food that was contaminated with Salmonella. Being new to San Antonio and without any family there, I was very scared - but he made me feel that I was in good hands. I recovered well from the surgery and was able to return to work in a few weeks. Thank you Dr. Kellum! The only downside I experienced at his office was that I sometimes had to wait longer than I would have wanted to see him. I believe that at times, that was due to many patients being seen in his office, as he is a very busy doctor. At other times, he had to come into his office a little late because he was at the hospital delivering a baby. Other than that, no complaints. His office staff was always very friendly and helpful to me. more

Great practice 4/2/2012

I have been under the care of Dr. John H. Kellum, MD - Obstetrics and Gynecology for over 10 years. He delivered my youngest who is 9 now with the assistance of a midwife. I had a great experience there and still see him for yearly checkups and he manages my bc methods. Very conventional and open, tells you like it is, and the care has been great. I have had a few instances with the staff not being prompt on response..... mainly with business over the phone. But overall, very satisfied with the practice. more

Great Doc, poor staff 1/12/2012

Dr Kellum is fantastic, he delivered our first son and was great the whole way through. Professional, calming, on time, responsive. Wife was very comfortable with him. However, his office staff leave a lot to be desired. They're rude and unprofessional and difficult to contact; I've spent a lot of time on hold calling them. In the end it was worth the hassle to keep him as our doctor but that may not be for everyone. more

Stupid reviews 7/23/2011

Some of you stupid people are talking about the family practice doctor. John Kellum is an OB/GYN, NOT a family practitioner. Your reviews need to be directed somewhere else. John Kellum has been chosen as a popular OB/Gyn in San Antonio and has been recognized in magazines. Highly recommend him. more

3 weeks ago my niece was taken in to see Dr. Kellum due to constant fevers. At the age of 1yr, fevers over 102.0 for extensive period of time should be considered urgent care. My brother and sister-in-law were told it was viral and that all she needed was medication. Now, she has been hospitalized since Thanksgiving day after suffering a seizure from the fevers. She has a tube in her head to drain the fluid in her brain and has been diagnosed with Tuberculosis. How can anyone miss that? To some doctors everything is viral, and in most cases it might be but in this case 2 weeks with constant fever...something should have been done. Now my 1 year old niece is in a hospital room with a tube in her head and being fed by a tube in her nose all because Dr. Kellum WOULD NOT test any further as to why a 1 yr old was having fevers that lasted more than a week. Dr. Kellum deserves to LOSE his practice and his license because of neglect. No parent should ever have to see their child laying in a hospital bed fighting for their life all because of a Doctors negligence. more

terrible Drs and staff 7/15/2010

On a previous occasion, my oldest son was tested for allergies, we were given a number to call for results, which always told us that there was no information. We asked the office. The staff told us that was the only info was thru this number. So even tho our ins was charged, we have NEVER received the results of the test. Now last week we were rescheduled (from an appt) to get our sons shot records (maintained at the hospital we usually use) . We told the staff that our son would have to bring our other son because my husband was having surgery the day before they had available. They said it was fine. NEVER said anything about an age or parent, or we would've simply scheduled a different day. When they get there today they at first say no they won't see him without an adult. But then she talked to a supervisor and said as long as they have my verbal consent it's ok. After waiting 1.5 hrs AND taking all vitals and such they send my son away without medical care saying that a parent had to be there, otherwise it was against the law. Would have been fine if they told us right away, but dont give permission and then make us wait 1.5 hrs first!! So the law changed in the last hour, since you said it was ok?? When I asked to speak with DR Kellum he refused to talk to me and told his girl to tell me to file a complaint with whoever I wanted, he didn't care and would even provide the phone numbers to do it. Guess he doesn't care if his staff gives quality care or not. Shows how much he himself cares about his patients. We have given them several opportunities, and they have failed each time. I believe that anyone can make a mistake, but they have sent us away without care twice now. Once for the shot records, and then today. Dr Kellum's attitude today was the final straw. Can't expect quality care from any company if the owner himself has such a bad attitude. Cons: bad attitudes, poor service, misinformation, uncaring more

The best! 2/25/2010

Dr. Kellum has been my ob/gyn for almost 16 years now. He delivered both of my children 9 and 10 years ago. At the time of both deliveries, we were stationed in Saudi Arabia and required extensive paperwork to be filled out, in a timely manner, in order to leave the country with our babies. Everything was done on time. He was extremely calming, reassuring, and instructed his staff to help us with any paperwork that needed to be filled out. He has always been patient and listens to all my concerns, without making me feel rushed. He has been wonderful. By far, the best doctor I've ever had. I have referred friends and family and everyone has been extremely pleased. I highly recommend Dr. Kellum. Pros: Exceeded expectations more

Horrible 1/11/2010

I was in the hospital in labor with my first child and was scared to death. He informed me if I didn't have a C section immediately my baby would suffer brain damage. I was wisked away to another room to get it done. My family got into an argument with Kellum who admitted my baby was not in any danger but that he had somewhere else to be. When my family said that was unexceptable he got angry and left the hospital, and me waiting in the room by myself. Very unprofessional! I even made a complaint against him to the medical board. Cons: insensitive more
