Since moving to Raleigh about 7 years ago, I've been a regular at Kanki. Until recently. While the decor has improved, the last two meals there have been disappointing. Both times...

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/20/2013

Went here for a celebration dinner 8-9-13 for my daughter's graduation from nursing school, had my bank card info copied, sold to Georgia which some one then made and used as a credit card to swipe in Walmart yesterday at 1246 and purchase $153.00 of what...per Suntrust they then attempted to use my card 2 other times at gas stations but the card was blocked by then. I later in the day get declined here in NC trying to buy gas when I get off work, hence my discovery!! I am angered and in shock that Kanki would allow these type of people to work for them! I called this morning as was told the manager is out until Thursday but assured she would be contacted and I would receive a call today, that was 1000, still waiting for the call. If you are eating here you better take cash! This was at the Wake Forest Road Store, I have already posted this once and I see it was immediately removed but don't worry Kanki it's going on my FB page and several other places on the web! The public needs to know... more

If you are at Mall 3/14/2011

Kanki is good if you've finished shopping and have dinner or lunch with out having to drive again. I had dinner there several times and as I am very picky on my sushi I did not enjoy my sushi dinner there. I thought most of nigeri sushi I had was from frozen blocks and is not from a top grade fresh fish (meaning fresh whole fish), yes it was fresh frozen type of fish. Kanki's Habachi is very good which I usually have, their decoration and service has been comforting. more

Sushi and steak house 3/3/2009

Kanki is a excellent place for entertainment and a wide spread choice of japennesse food. Cooks prepare everything right before your eyes maintaing tricks on grill while you observe. Food is great aswell is sushi a bit pricy but great. more

LOVE IT! Make reservations 2/21/2008

Kanki is a favorite of my family. We do mostly go on special occations. We also go with friends. It is more fun and when they are busy the service is better and food is always great! love it!! I usually make reservations and go to the one in Raleigh on Glenwood! Going tonight! Pros: food is great! fun! Cons: english is not the language of choice with the wait staff. Hard to get your point across. more

Best in the triangle period!!! 1/23/2008

Ultimately the best sushi in the triangle!! what sets them apart is the highest quality fish with no exceptions. The other places order secondary fish or say scraps at low cost because they pay their sushi chefs so much $$$$. Atmosphere is great. a bit crowded due to the mall traffic. And I hate going to the mall. Overall, excellent fish selection. If they offered an authentic menu Kanki would just be the best Japanese Restaurant in the Triangle. Also, try the Hibachi side!!!!! Ask for Phu!!! he ULTIMATELY the Best CHEF I have ever had for teppanyake in the nation......and i have been to at least 2 dozen teppan restaurants... He is ultimately the funniest, entertaining chef!!!!! more

Good??!!!?? What is so good? 11/2/2007

First of all...I'm writing the review on sushi....but the teppanyaki?'s THE worst tasting I've had in country. But I soon found out that all teppan place in the triangle are the worst tasting i've had in country. So if you crave teppanyaki food...go ahead...because you have no choice. Pros: Convenience...inside a popular mall, few good sushi rolls. Cons: Everything else is bad. more

First of all, I must agree that the service is awful. The waitresses are not friendly and they act as if you are a nuissance. Second, we waited for over 45 minutes after we ordered our food for the chef to come over to our table to prepare the hibachi. Also, I went there with some people that wanted hibachi, but I wanted sushi. When the waitress finally took our order, I was informed that sushi would take over an hour to prepare and I should order something else. It was a Wednesday night and they were not even that crowded! I wish someone would have told me BEFORE we were seated or right when we were seated. We would have gone elsewhere! Oh and my friends chicken was so tough it was not edible. Big flop of a meal! more

Delicious! 4/2/2007

I have been to Kanki on numerous occassions and it is one of my favorite restaurants. I love the sushi, it is terrific especially the california roll. I'd recommend the habachi chicken or the habachi shrimp it's excellent and the chefs are very personable and always friendly. I would advise going with a big group instead of a date it isn't really ideal for a date and well I think it's always better with a large group of friends. However, I have had a bad experience with Kanki. I went to the most recently built one in durham and I got terribly sick from it so I would stay away from the durham kanki. But other then that Kanki is overall and excellent restaurant. Pros: terrific food and alot of it. Cons: steaks can get pricey. more

Good Food can always be expected 1/4/2007

Well I have lived in the triangle for almost 23 years now and Kanki still remains one of my favorites. The food is obviously always fresh (as it is cooked from raw) and it is prepared effortlessly by great Kabuki chefs. Unless you go for lunch, that is when they set the trainees loose. But the food is still good then, it's just all over the table. I love their ginger sauce, it is the best of any Japanese steakhouse I have ever been to. The Sushi is really great. Have a sit down at the sushi bar and try something different. It isn't all raw fish! Service is almost always great. Pros: Really good food in a fun atmosphere Cons: Sitting next to a stranger more

Best sushi! 10/26/2006

I love sushi, and have eaten at almost all of the sushi restaurants in town, but I keep coming back to Kanki! They have a sometimes overwhelming selection of rolls, but most all of them are delicious, and I like that most are also served in 1/2 portions, so one can try something new without having to buy an entire roll. The sushi chefs are alwys friendly as well. Mmmm..I might just have to eat there tonight!! more

User review by fdgrl 6/7/2005

I went with friends on a Saturday night, and was extremely disappointed. When I ordered a California roll, the server told me it would take at least 45 minutes to make them. He then told me I should get something from the hibachi menu. I figured since my sushi was only $5 and the hibachi is easily $10, that he was trying to have a bigger bill. When my sushi arrived (20 minutes later), it was a cucumber roll, and he insisted that I ordered that instead of a California roll. He wouldn't take it back, so I ate it and when I asked for green tea ice cream as my dessert, he rudly told me they were out. As I signed my credit card receipt, he stood over me. I have been to other great sushi restaurants here in Raleigh, so I will not be back to this place. more

Sushi-only Review 9/22/2003

Despite having been there multiple times, I always fill up on sushi. I've seen some surprising negative reviews of their sushi, and I've had just the opposite experience. Probably the best tempura-style maki rolls in town, and their traditional rolls aren't anything to complain about either. The service isn't the greatest unfortunately... but sometimes you make sacrifices for good food. Pros: Unbeatable sushi, Convenient (mall) Cons: Semi-expensive, Mediocre service more

The best sushi! 9/14/2003

I have only been to the sushi bar, I have not had the hibachi. The sushi was the best eel sushi I have ever had! The miso was outstanding and the vegetable tempura was excellent! The service was quicker the first time I went, but it was fairly pprompt both times. I hope to try the hibachi food next time I go. more

Fun Date - although not intimate setting 5/15/2003

This was a fun date night! All the tables are close together in one big open you can see everyone. And you're seated at a table of 8 along with strangers. It would be a fun place to go with a group of 8! The food was delicious!!! Our chef was very entertaining & very impressive!!! There were several kids at the restaurant - I was surprised - but they must really enjoy the ""show."" Waitress service wasn't the best, but it was ok. Definitely not an intimate setting, but it made for a fun evening! :) Actually, the 2 of us sat at the end of our table...and there's enough noise in there that our ""neighbors"" couldn't really hear our conversation anyway. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table on a Thursday evening. Pros: Fun, Delicious, Unusual experience Cons: noisy, sit with strangers more

Great 5/15/2003

Never eaten here at dinner, too expensive for me. Lunch is a great deal with a decent show too. Traditional japanese styling and dress adorn the restaurant with rooms for more private dining or groups. Pros: tastes, lunch price, decor Cons: dinner price, crowded sometimes more

no privacy 5/5/2003

Kanki is fun for large groups, but if you want to have a more intimate evening there is no privacy since you are seated at a table with 6 to 8 strangers. Plus, you don't get to choose who you sit with, there is always the chance of sitting at a table with some loud dumb-ass. Fun for a first date, and if the surrounding people keep to themselves or aren't too annoying it can be great. more

Good food, Bad service 1/31/2003

I think that the food served at the tables is very good and extremely filling. The sushi bar has pretty good sushi, but not excellent. I have been to much better sushi places than this before. I think if you are looking for good japanese food--go here, but for sushi--try somewhere else. Also, the sushi and hibachi chefs are great--nice, entertaining and funny. But the waitresses are HORRIBLE. If you want good service--or even just another glass of water--DO NOT go here! Pros: Good food, Entertaining Cons: Horrible Service, Usually crowded more

Wow,Yum, Fun 1/26/2003

Myself and my husband, our friends and our family frequently venture a trip to Kanki the atmosphere is great, the view and decor are attractive and interesting. The sushi bar by far is the best. The chefs are funny and interactive putting a show almost as good as the dinner tables. Pros: Group Accomodating, Inexpensive Cons: Crowded, Rushed more

Not for sushi 1/14/2003

Almost edible. ""Daijoobu"" if you get my drift. go there for steak-house theatrics if you'd like. Too often the fish is not at all fresh. Cons: Overpriced, Bad Sushi more
