BEST RESTAURANT! 6/21/2010

This place is absolutely amazing! I went for my anniversary and they are a 5 star restaurant! I had a nice waitress and the food was to die for. I wish they were open 24/7 so I could buy their food all the time anytime. I figured a nice place like that would take ten years to get my food but they were quick and it was delicious. I'd recommend this place to anyone! I don't know what all these psycho people are talking about saying it's horrible. They must've went some where in a Twilight zone. This place is wonderful!! Pros: Everything! Cons: Not open 24/7! more

If you like sushi, don't eat here. 3/26/2010

This was an awful dining experience! I encourage you to avoid Kabuki if you are looking for good sushi or good service. I found neither here. Pros: Convenient to location Cons: Food and service stink! more

WORST SERVICE EVER - DOES NOT EVEN DESERVE A STAR 8/13/2009

Dinner here was to begin a fun and special evening. All the people involved in the service, from waitress to fake management, should be ashamed of how bad the experience at Kabuki was. First waited over 45 min to get drinks, then orders were wrong, did not get appetizers and staff was EXTREMELY RUDE!!! We would have walked out on bill but all that would have accomplished was us getting arrested...Sad when you have no recourse for being treated so badly...Spend your money where your patronage is appreciated... Cons: RUDE STAFF - HORRIBLE SERVICE - LONG WAIT more

TERRIBLE SERVICE 8/12/2009

We went for a special night out with the girls and left angry and upset!!! They ruined a good portion of the night for us! It took FORTY FIVE minutes just to get drinks!!! They forget to bring out soups and salads to certain individuals, although we asked and reminded them numerous times, we still did not get them! They did not bring the appetizer we order and the hot food took longer than the cold! We tried to be patient and polite but that can only go so far when they are rude when you ask for a drink or refill of water! I would never recommend this place to anyone. In fact, you couldn't pay me $100 to go back!!!!!! Pros: NON! Cons: SERVICE more

worst place ever! 7/26/2009

I went in for dinner at a Friday night with friends. We waited one hour to get our food. When I asked about our orders, the server said she could check for us, but everybody here was before us. That was not a nice response that could be, especially after having us waiting for 50 minutes already The food was no good either. We didn't get served once during our 2 hours there, no water refilled. I was really unhappy with their service, so I decided no tips. But later on I found out that my credit card was overcharged: they added 28% tips on their own. The manager said she didn't have any copy of my receipt when I called, and asked me to come down there with my receipt copy. That was the worst dining experience I've ever had. Really ridiculous! But I was not the only one who was screwed up that night. A group of 9 or more waited even longer than us, and they left mad without getting any food. Seriously, stay away from this place!!! Pros: no Cons: slow, horrible services, overcharge your credit card more

Be sure to ask for the UNI! 1/26/2009

Growing up in Kansas City, as a high school freshman, I began my first stint of gainful employment in 1985 (part-time) as a dishwasher for Jun's (then on 103rd & State Line). I was then first introduced to a delicacy known as sushi (unheard of in my peer circles at THAT time) and started my education in Asian cuisine. Arigato, Junsan for those heaping bowls of sushi we'd get from the overstock on Sunday nights. Pros: Always a seat at the sushi bar (for one) Cons: Lighting was a little dim to see the menu more

Stay away. Far away. 1/20/2009

I spent several years of my life living in Tokyo, so I know a few things about sushi. There are a lot of sushi places in the US that actually serve up a good roll, but Kabuki just isn't one of them. more

Will eat there again. 6/2/2008

I have just moved to KC from NYC, love sushi and ate it all the time in NYC. I have dined at some of the upper market places in NYC such as Nobu, Kai and Gheisa, adn whilst Kabuki is not in this class, my first experience was up there with a reasonable mid-range Japanese restaurant. We ate on a Monday night, slow night. But there was about 1/3 full, and one regular sat next to me and seemed to know the sushi game and the sushi bar chef was straight with him when asked what was good and fresh and was just ok. We will go back there and look fwd to takeaway. Maybe they read some of the reviews and addressed the service issues - but I will not know that for sure until a more busier night. Pros: Good price and quick service more

Worst sushi in Kansas City 4/5/2008

As a sushi lover, any other sushi restaurant in Kansas City is better than Kabuki. Kabuki is often less than clean. Kabuki has terrible service. Kabuki sometimes uses mayonaise on their rolls. Yich. more

Horrible service! 8/16/2007

The service is absolutely horrific. I took clients to this place for lunch and after ordering, we waited 1 hour before we were served. Last night, I went back and had to search for the waitress at least three times because we were out of drinks, forgot apps, etc. I'm fairly forgiving if the restaurant is full, but each time, she was at the bar watching tv..... Pros: good location Cons: service is horrible more

Could be better 4/6/2007

After having arrived here in KC, I was so glad to find a sushi place so near, as I am a real sushi-lover. I was a little astonished to find fried calamares on the menue wich is definitely not a typical japanese dish. The rolls were good, with some unusual ingredients - which is nice. Service could be more friendly. Pros: Nice rolls Cons: Service more

Worst service ever 3/3/2007

I went for the first in 2001 and had good service and pretty good sushi. But on my most recent visit the quality of everything from service to food was terrible. The service was so bad that I came close to walking out. The walls and floor were so dirty that I really did not want to order food from this restaurant then on top of that when we received our food there little flies flying around our table indoors in February!? Will never go there again. Cons: Expensive, terrible service, dirty more

Excellent! 10/31/2006

Kabuki is a wonderful place for lunch or dinner at a great price. I make it a point to stop in whenever I'm in KC. The food is fresh, and they are gracious hosts. The atmosphere is incredibly calming, which is perfect if you've had a long day of work or shopping. It became one of my top 5 KC favorites from the first time I dined there several years ago. If you're looking for an elegant and relaxing restaurant with wonderful cuisine and service, try Kabuki. Pros: Authentic Japanese cuisine, excellent service. Cons: Wish I lived closer. more

Great Sushi Great price!! 8/22/2005

I waited for 15 minutes to finally be told that I could have just gone in to eat at the sushi bar. Took a while to get something to drink. Sushi chefs are very nice and friendly. They gave me some soy beans, to snack on which were good, but you can't eat the whole thing. I didn't know that. Open the pod and just eat the beans..to save yourself from the embarrassment. They have a huge variety of all the different kinds of sushi and make it special if you only want certain things. I ordered some rolls, yellow tail, white tuna, soup, & tried somthing new. All for 21 dollars....you can't beat that. Very Fresh!! Pros: chefs friendly, nice enviroment Cons: too long to be seated more

Great Japanese Food in Downtown KC 6/4/2005

I'm not a fan of sushi. But when I worked in downtown KC for five years, this was a favorite lunch spot for my coworkers. I first tried tempura here, which is fantastic. Their salads are wonderful, too. Great atmosphere - the moment you walk in you'll forget you're in a mall. The food presentation and service are outstanding, too. Highly recommended. Pros: food, service, presentation more

Best Sushi Rolls in Kansas City 4/11/2005

Kabuki, in the Crown Center shopping center in downtown Kansas City, offers the best maki sushi (rolls) in the Kansas City area. They offer a wide variety of unique rolls including a Salmon and Asparagus roll, Volcano roll covered in spicy sauce and lit on fire, Arrowhead Roll which comes complete with spicy sauce and asparagus. The sushi chefs and wait staff are very friendly and the sushi chefs also do a great job of presentation with their sushi. Prices can get expensive, but it is well worth it for the quality and selection of sushi often not found in other sushi restaurants around the city. more

Kabuki Service Poor 3/12/2005

We went during lunch hour and weren't greeted. We sat at the sushi bar and no one came up to us for 10 minutes. The sushi was not as fresh as it could have been. The waitress then messed up my check. The only good thing was that the sushi chefs were extremely nice! I would not go back...there are much better places for sushi in KC! more
