My husband and I have been great fans 1/31/2012

My husband and I have been great fans of Juan C (the Bethany location) for some time, but the last couple of visits have been so disappointing, we've been visiting other restaurants. The service is adequate at best - once the order is filled, we don't see the server until it's bill time. No water or chip/salsa refills for the entire visit. The servers are friendly but distant. Portions have shrunk in the past few years (although I'm sure this is an industry-wide trend to keep up with costs/recession). Cooking style seems to have changed. My favorite dish has gradually changed - the incredible shrinking steak, one less shrimp, more lettuce than beans, etc. We asked for half corn and half flour tortillas - they brought out all flour, took them away, brought all corn, took them away, brought out all flour again... more

Service bad 8/9/2011

Lousy Service. I've eaten here many times. Last visit I ordered the Chili Rellenos. Terrible, I took one bite and my husband took one bite to confirm it was awful. Waiter never came back to check on us. My husband had finished his plate, my was left uneaten. I commented to the waiter that it was the worst chili relleno I'd ever eaten. His comment ""yes I know, that's how they make them here."" No offer to make something else, no reduction on bill. We will never go back to them. more

Awesome Food 2/13/2011

I love love love their food. We've been going to this place for 25 years give or take. Amazing food, always good servers. The drink's are kinda high priced, but I don't care. The chips are yummy, the food is fresh and tasty and abundant. I love their flauta's. Much better then say, Chevy's. Overall, good authentic mexican food and helpful servers! more

great place 5/29/2010

Against the recommendations of other reviewers we gave this place a chance. Upon entering we were greeted with smiles and open arms. The place was clean and service was prompt. Our server Raul was friendly and helpful. Every employee that passed our table ask how we were and offered great service. When the food came we were surprised at the generous portions and quick service. The food tasted fresh and well prepared. I especially enjoyed the handmade tortillas. The only thing not perfect was a mistake on the order. But it was correct before the food was brought to our table. The only reason we knew about the mistake was because of the extra free food items brought to us. Everything from the main course to the chips and salsa was great tasting and we very much enjoyed our experience. Pros: great service more

HORRIBLE SERVICE, mediocre food 4/15/2010

Don't bother with this place. I have been here multiple times trying to give them a 6th or 12th chance but their servers there are so rude. They barely speak to you, they don't check up on you. The place is dead almost all the time even during the peak eating hours. (You wonder why?) They over charge you for everything... things that other places provide for you - tortillas for your fajitas (the server even told me it was cheaper to go to the grocery store to get the tortilla than to get it from them!!!) They will be out of business soon if they don't clean up their act. Pros: Parking... because no one goes there Cons: bad service, charge extra for everything without telling u more

Decent food, terrible service 4/13/2010

Terrible service the last several times going there. We live across the street and have always enjoyed their lunch specials, but as of late, the service has been declining. Not only are they not very attentive (my cup of water was empty the whole time, practically have to beg for more chips and salsa) but they switch from lunch to dinner at 2pm (or 5 minutes before) without letting you know. We clearly arrived and ordered way before 2pm but they merely charged us the dinner price. Who starts to serve dinner at 2pm?? Granted, the food was good, but pay a little more attention to your customer service cause it definitely is lacking. I think this was our last straw for this restaurant. There are plenty of other mexican restaurants in the area that serve better authentic food (Ochoa, Pachanga's) than this place. Pros: Great crunchy, thin, tortilla chips! Decent salsa Cons: Service, Nit-picky pricing more

Excellent service , food & drinks! 1/2/2010

We have been eating here for two years now, and while it's not the most adventurous Mexican place to eat in Hillsboro, when we want basic good food and quick service in a nice casual atmosphere, or have a large group that needs feeding, we come here. The place is always clean and our food is always correct, even though I have food allergies and have to ask for special considerations. It is very reliable- we have never been disappointed. Even my mom loves it! Pros: Friendly quick service; good food & prices more

Health Hazard 8/27/2009

Yes, I have ate at this restaurant. Would I ever go again? No. Not after I saw this place on dirty diner and the place was revealed to have undercooked food that could cause bacterial death to a patron. Dirty silverware being reused and dishes being poorly cleaned on top of that. I will never ever go here again nor should anyone else. Pros: Location Cons: Absolutely filthy more

Oh my God! Awful!!! 3/4/2009

This is hands-down the shittiest Mex food in the entire Portland metro area. I have better food at Taco Bell--no kidding. The service was equally poor. The waiter just tossed our menus down on the table, then walked away unttering a phony ""enjoy amigos."" The drinks we ordered didn't even seem to have any alcohol in them. This restaurant is definitely having problems. My advice is to stay away. Pros: lots of parking--because it's bad Cons: poor food and service more

Stay away from this dump 12/31/2008

We called before coming to this retaurant on Dec 31st 2008 and was told they close at 930pm that day. We drove about six miles to get there and when we got there at about 855 pm we were told ""sorry we're closed buddy"". So our response was, ""why were we told you close at 930 then?"" what the heck did we waste our time coming here for? Then the employee responded by saying F### you too!!!. What a rude way to greet customers. Stay away from this place. Pros: ample parking more

Great Cadillac Margaritas and the Camarones Apretelados are incredible 12/30/2008

Ordering off of the combo menu, although good, is not the best choice at Juans. Order from the specials, the Buro Acapulco, Camarones Apretelados, Tacos Al Pastor, all are very good. Juans has been around a long time, working on at least their second decade, and they have been consistently good since day one. The service is always friendly, and the food is typically great. If you like margaritas, make sure not to pass up the Cadillac on the rocks. I definitely recommend, and along with Si Senor, Juans is my favorite local Mexican restaurant. Pros: Great food, service and atmosphere Cons: None to mention more

Poor customer service. 4/9/2008

OK food, generous portions, poor service. Went for our anniversary and did not feel welcome. Manager escorted us to our booth and tossed menus on table and walked away. Server barely recognized us and was very scarce. Asked if I wanted more ice tea and returned several minutes later to re-fill glass. Argued with wife about leaving any tip at all. Would not recommend. Pros: ample parking Cons: poor service, unfriendly personnel more

Average 5/22/2004

Good Margaritas and DosXX on tap!! Food isn't bad, but I've had better. Picadillo is awesome though. Not the most authentic Mexican you'll have, but more authentic than Chevy's. They have a nice selection of healthy taco salads. Pros: Chips & Salsa, Prices more

Real South of the Boarder! 8/22/2002

With all the choices of Mexican Restaruants in the Portland Area, it's refreshing to find one that is truly authentic. With a substancial menu to choose from, and gerorus portions, you'll find more value here than some of the more trendy places. Add to this the great service, and you'll experience a trip to Mexico with only a drive across town. Pros: Great choices, Autnentic food, Great service Cons: croweded, noisey more

Perfecto! 7/1/2002

This is the best Mexican food around the Portland area. Authentic, delicious and consistently yummy! The handmade tortillas customers can watch being made are lightyears ahead of the prefab disks at local area chains. The pollo a la crema, refried beans, fajitas, light chile rellenos and tamales are out of this world. The waitstaff is always extremely pleasant. Try to save room for the deep fried ice cream. The best I've ever had, and I've tried many! Pros: Good parking, Great food, Nice people Cons: Ambience-very casual more
