The Gorilla coffee was really good, but the whoopie pies and the cupcakes were horribly dry and not good at all. Pros: The decor is nice Cons: The baked goods are awful

Great baked goods/coffee, too bad it's also a daycare center 9/6/2010

I've been patronizing this spot since it opened 4 years ago, and have been consistently happy with the friendly service and the food/coffee. My only complaint is the number of self absorbed parents wielding strollers like weapons in the small space, or even worse, parking them wherever they feel and letting the kids run crazy and loud with total disregard for the other patrons. This place ISN'T a daycare center, if they want to loiter with obnoxious kids, there's a park and a playground each within a couple of blocks (or better yet, they should get it to go). Be warned if you plan on eating there. more

Charming, friendly, high end neighborhood bakery 11/21/2008

Joyce is completely charming. I've been going there several times a week for the last couple of years. They specialize in pastries and desserts since it's a bakery so what you get isn't a big hearty meal. Instead they are specialty cookies, croissants, etc. I don't know what these negative reviewers are talking about as the place is meticulously clean, always friendly and the owner is a woman. And there are of course other coffee shops in the area too. Another reviewer mentioned there aren't. On park place alone there are 4 options for coffee between vanderbilt and flatbush. But joyce is definitely my favorite! i just wish they sold bagels! And they do take credit cards but it has to be for more than $10. Pros: adorable ambience, neighborhood vibe, strong gorrilla coffee, the most phenomenal sandwiches and strawberry croissants when they have them Cons: long lines, not inexpensive more

GREAT BAKERY! 11/8/2008

Everything at Joyces is outstanding! I went for the first time awhile ago and have been back everyday since. I love all of the pastries and have had them all. The service is great! The staff is very friendly and my experience there everytime has been simply outstanding. We also go every weekend and even though it is sometimes a little packed it is def. worth the short wait on line. It goes to show how fantastic both the food and service is. I highly recommend it. more

Terrible coffee!!! Don't waste your money 10/15/2007

Just had the worst cup of coffee ever from Joyce. I was out for a walk with my husband and looking forward to a great cup of coffee on one of the first nice fall days. I ordered a cafe au lait and it tasted like it had been brewed from coffee grounds that were a week old. I am truly disappointed because I am a serious coffee fanatic and I was excited that Prospect Heights was finally getting what I hoped to be a great coffee / bakeshop. Don't waste your money on their overpriced terrible coffee. Pros: one of the only coffee shops in Prospect Heights Cons: terrible coffee more

Great addition for the Neighborhood but I'd go out of my way to get there 4/25/2007

A great cozy shop with amazingly good baked goods. The scones are incredible - slightly crumbly, nearly savory and always fresh. Many of the baked goods seem to be on the small side for the price but they're all uniformly delicious (read not inexpensive). The fresh baked baguettes are perfectly crispy outside and chewy inside. From what I've tasted in the neighborhood they certainly make one of the best cups of coffee, brewing Gorilla's blend better than Gorilla. The people that work there are generally always friendly if sometimes a bit harried. I'm no fan of Starbucks but I think most establishments of this type could take a lesson from them regarding serving efficiency. I've never had to wait too long though and its always been worth it. A great addition to Prospect Heights / Park Slope and for that matter Brooklyn. Pros: Fantastic Baked Goods, Great Coffee and Nice Ambience Cons: Pricey, sometimes slow (but friendly) service more

Welcome to the neighborhood, joyce. 10/30/2006

Outstanding coffee, friendly and competent people behind the counter, and pretty amazing little $2 cupcakes. Nice addition to the growing P.H. renaissance. Pros: everything looks/tastes amazing Cons: the laptop crowd (but what are you gonna do) more

An Excellent Addition to Vanderbilt Avenue 8/31/2006

Just went for breakfast and was very impressed--the barristas were *friendly*, the coffee was great, the scone was buttery and perfect (and I don't usually like scones), AND they served me the scone ON A REAL PLATE, instead of cheesy styrofoam or paper. The decor is warm and inviting, every detail was obviously given lots of care and thought. In sum, Joyce Bakeshop is exactly the welcoming, friendly, high-quality coffee shop that Vanderbilt Avenue has needed for a long time. I can't wait to go back and try the brownies and cakes! Pros: Ambience, Coffee, Friendly Barristas more
