It's now called SORELLE -- and it's FANTASTIC 6/22/2009

I used to live in Manhattan and had always heard great things about John and Paulette's. While visiting NYC with my husband last month, we realized he needed some tailoring done to a business suit -- stat. I trekked on over to the shop and saw that management had changed. I never knew the original tailors, but in this case, the new guard is EXCELLENT. The place is run by two Turkish/Armenian sisters. One of them is married to an Italian, hence the name SORELLE, which is Italian for ""Sisters."" They were fast, accurate and very reasonably priced. (Fifteen bucks for letting out a pair of dress slacks.) They are also warm and lovely people. I've seen the negative reviews below, but they've worked out the ""new business"" kinks. I would bring my clothes to them again in a flash. Pros: VERY quick turnaround Cons: None from my experience more

Great work at a price 6/4/2008

I brought two dresses to be altered. One needed some simple nipping and tucking, but the other needed to be virtually reconstructed across the shoulders (and it was a well-made dress to begin with, so the work was not easy). Pros: Service, Workmanship, Speed Cons: Price more

BEWARE-- NEW MANAGEMENT 5/22/2008

Pros: they have a sewing machine Cons: they do not use it well more

Poor customer service, poor tailoring work 5/12/2008

I had a pair of trousers hemmed here and am not happy with the work. The seams were left unfinished and there were burn marks (possibly from the iron?). Not to mention an unpleasant staff who blamed me for the burn. Why come here when there are so many better tailors in this city? Pros: Location in relation to my office Cons: Lack of professionalism and skills more

Absolutely terrible service customers beware of these schemers!! 5/2/2008

This was an all around miserable experience for me. My jeans were hastily sewn in front of me after waiting patiently for 20 minutes on my pick up date. They were a complete mess and not the way I wanted them done. After seeing that they were potentially ruined, I decided not to ask them to work on them further but to bring them elsewhere. I had paid in advance for the work last week and as I was leaving, already disappointed, I was ambushed by one of the women who worked there accusing me that I had not paid making absurd empty threats asking where my receipt was (after I had given it to them so they would know who I was) and the nasty employee continued to scream in the background while the other found my receipt and I desperately recounted the conversation we'd had last week down to the amount of change she had given me and she FINALLY remembered that I had indeed paid! I have a suspicion that they tried to beat me out of the $35 thinking that I would pay again and realizing that I would not back down, they retreated. Bottom line: they are horrible tailors and do not know how to conduct a business, I will never go back there and do not recommend John and Paulettes to anyone. Pros: Nothing Cons: Everything more

excellent work, courteous, fast 4/22/2008

Jean and Mary at Jean and Paulette's Tailoring did a great job on fitting my husbands 2 suits and altering several formal dresses more

BEST Tailors in NY!! 6/10/2007

I saw an existing review that said John & Paulette had completed a bridesmaid dress on a tight deadline and for a reasonable price - well that was an understatement!! more

Great Tailors 3/22/2007

I used John & Paulette's Tailoring to hem 2 pairs of pants and was very happy with the service as well as the end result. The pants were professionally done for a good price and they were even ready a day earlier than promised! The only downside is that they accept cash only - no credit cards. I will absolutely use them again. Pros: Good, Professional Service Cons: Cash Only - No Credit Cards Accepted more

Last minute job completed on time at decent price 9/13/2006

I needed last minute alterations for a bridesmaid's dress, and was in a panic to get it done in one shot. John and Paulette quickly and quietly worked together to take my measurements, and the resulting alterations look fantastic. Work was completed on time, and the price was lower than I expected. I would return here for sure. They are a great team. more

So sweet! 5/14/2006

I love this place. John is so nice and he always gets my dress alterations done perfectly and promptly. His prices are always fair as well. more

Fast & friendly service 3/31/2006

I needed some last-minute alterations done to a tux for a wedding. Not only did John get them done the same day, but his prices were also very reasonable! Highly Recommended. Pros: Fast, Friendly, Reasonably priced more
