I have tried Pat's and Geno's, and let me tell you...they are JUNK compared to Jim's!!! Even with the traffic of South Street and hunt for a parking spot do not stop us from g...

Worst

To tell you the truth, I can't really tell the difference between Pat's, Geno's, Jim's, whoever's cheese steaks... but, I do know that the two times I went to Jim's I came out of ...

Nothing spectacular 7/27/2012

You can smell the meat from a block away from this place. I have had Jim's steaks a few times but I am not a fan of the location. The steaks are good and typical "philly cheesesteaks" but I prefer Geno's over Jim's. more

Jim's steaks are delicious. I can't get enough of it. Affordable and nice place. The staff are friendly as well. more

The best (and only) Philly cheesesteak I have ever had. 4/3/2006

We stopped by Jim's the first time we were in Philadelphia. It was a Saturday night and there was a line outside of the retaurant. We waited in line and it went fairly quickly. We both ordered cheesesteak with onions and wiz. We went upstairs to sit down. There was a really quick turnaround so we did not have to wait for a seat. I thought the cheesestaks were good, pretty much what I expected. The beef didn't have any flavor so the wiz was the key. It really made the sandwich good. I did like Jim's but I want to try Geno's and Pat's to compare. more

good cheesesteaks 3/21/2006

The cheesteaks are really good. The line for them is often out the door and around the block. Seating is VERY limited. Make sure to know what you want before you get to the counter. No vegan or chicken cheesesteaks are available here, no fries either. But the steaks are worth it. more

Stay away when the conventioneers are in town... 3/17/2006

I love this store since they have good deals on produce and since they are right in the middle of Center City's Reading Terminal Market. But when the conventioneers are in town, the whole place gets crazy. I came here recently during the Flower Show, and even though this is a produce market, the lines were horrendous. Luckily the cashiers have baggers helping them and they work nonstop. You may have trouble finding Iovine Brothers since they are right in the very back of the Terminal Market. But trust me: they are one of the better shops in this market. Their store has more produce than my local suburban SuperFresh market! And they have everything from vegetables to fruits, all the conventional products that most people eat. All the prices are very reasonable, but sometimes you get a steal- like $1/lb strawberries. I will be shopping here again. more

Number one on South Street 2/26/2006

If you are walking down south street, you can't pass this place by. They are normally really busy, but quick to get you your food. They have an upstairs and downstairs with tables for dining in, and not to mention, they sell beer. You can get it all at Jim's: a great steak, a cold beer, and nice place to sit and look out onto the street. A+ more

Giving a bad name to Philly steaks. 2/5/2006

This is the black sheep of Philly steak places, and deservedly so. Their meat isn't anything to brag about, the rolls are sub-par (and taste like they've been left outside all day), there are onions everywhere (don't even think about getting an onion free steak) and it's always way too crowded for the type of product you're going to get. Not worth the wait or the money. more

I Love Jim's 9/20/2005

I'm a Geno's gal myself, but when on South Street, don't miss Jim's Steaks. You can find it by following your nose (do they purposely pump out that great smell into the street?) or look for the line wrapping around the corner. It's a little Soup Nazi-ish, because they are always so busy. Jim's has seating down and upstairs and sells beer. On a Saturday night, Jim's is the best place to do some South Street people watching from the upstairs while enjoying a great cheese steak! They seem to have other food, but why bother? more

The Cheese Steak King 8/25/2005

Forget the other two down the street, just go to Jim's. The cheese steaks are the best, hands down. The steak chef is a little testy (the cheesesteak nazi if you will), but the food is the best. The line often wraps around the corner, but don't be discouraged - it is definitely worth the wait. And while waiting, prepare mentally for your order. I like to say mine like a little mantra before stepping up to the sometimes toothless chef (I'm a plain, with fried onions gal). Also, conveniently, they sell beer, which is the perfect accompaniment to a cheese steak. Oh yeah! more

The BEST Philly Steaks 8/15/2005

Jims's has hands down the BEST philly cheesteaks anywhere! From the moment you walk up to the store on South Street, you can smell the steak and onions. There may be a long line, but it's worth the wait! You can choose whatever kind of cheese you want, wiz, american, provelone and onions and peppers if you like 'em. The employees are very friendly and the price is right. Jim's is a must stop shop if you are in the Philly area! If you are up for a cheesesteak, go no further. more

The best cheesesteaks 8/15/2005

This is it! Jim's can not be beat for the best cheese steaks in Philly. Prepare to wait on line. Be ready to order a whiz with (cheese and fried onions), or the grill master may move on to the next person! Take the sandwich upstairs to enjoy while watching the scene at 4th & South. more
