I travel from NJ to NYC to see Zion at Jean Louis David. He's the best. Pros: Zion is the best

I had one of the worst haircuts ever here. First off, they don't use scissors -- just an electric trimmer, even for the ladies. My stylist barely spoke English, so I had trouble t...

Best Deep Conditioning Treatment 3/14/2010

Sure, I have my go-to place for hair cuts, but sometimes, you find yourself out and in dire need of a hair fix. The Jean Louis David salons, while a chain (just like Supercuts, people) can be a go-to place in a pinch. I say 'in a pinch' because it really is hit or miss. Will I find someone who isn't afraid of curls? Will I locate that one illusive blow drying specialist? Who knows. What I do know is that the one thing they always get right is their deep, buttery, conditioning treatment. I've been to 3 of their salons and regardless of whatever else is going on - that's the constant. The haircuts? That's another story. Pros: Deep conditioning to die for. Cons: Hair cuts are always hit or miss. more

The service was great. the staff treated you with respect and they gave me the best hair cut ever. I was thrilled with my hair color, and i had the cut of my dreams. I would advice every one to go and get their hair done their. My stylist: Carmensita I give it 5 stars ***** Pros: GREAT STAFF Cons: NONE WHAT SO EVER more

WORST haircoloring experience of my life! 9/29/2007

Worst hair experience of my life! I just moved to the city and was attempting to find a cheap highlight and haircut. Bad idea is all I can say. Like everyone else said, the stylist hardly spoke English and didn't even ask me what color I wanted the highlights. Finally, she brought me a color book with sample after I asked, but barely let me look at it before she announced that she would give me something "very natural". I agreed, thinking that she would do as she said. It is the farthest thing from natural...I look like some kind of brown and yellow skunk, with some of the highlights not even going all the way to the root. So now I look like a skunk with roots after a day of having it done! Not to mention that the woman didn't know how to use toner to fix the problem and had to ask about all the other stylists what to do. It still did not come okay after all that and she acted like she did me a favor by "letting" me sit with conditioner in my hair at the sink while she blew out another client's hair that she told me was her "regular". She told me that she usually charged clients for that "deep conditioning" treatment...please, I could do that at home! Give me a break! The haircut was luckily not a complete disaster since I just got a trim but she cut it with a razor like my husband's barber would use on him! What the heck! I just wanted out of there, but now I will have to pay to have the color fixed. I wish I could get my money back...$150 down the toilet. Cheap, but what a waste. By the way the "stylist" (even you could even venture so far as to call her that) was named "Hova". If I can't get my money back I will sure as hell blast her on the internet so noone else will suffer hair horrors at her hands! Pros: Nothing whatsoever Cons: Everything more

I just walked out of here with 61 bucks less than what I had for no reason. This is the first time they charge me so much and I can do a much better job myself in less than 45 minutes. I cannot believe I was charged 54 bucks for something I am charged 38 bucks for all the time, a wash, cut and dry, b/c of my so called length which is much shorter than when I paid and pay 38 dollars. My hair looks like it was cut with blunt scissors, but mind you, they used a machine trimmer, HORRIBLE. I am mortified and very upset that I decided to let these people take my hair into their hands today. I will never give them my business again. The lady at the register was very rude, and I had to pay the money and walk out of there in dismay. Because for that price I could have gone to Allure Day Spa and paid the same price for a much better, job!!!. The manager's name is JACKIE BENEJAN!!! I just called to the 23rd street location and let them know I will be speaking to the manager for the over charge. And today is supposed to start at 22 dollars, please explain to me, how in the world did they hike that up to 54 bucks, at my length, long, but not longer than the charge of 38 bucks, they jerked me, and I will never go back, I hope these reviews count for something. I'm very unsatisfied and horrified at the service, and will never ever walk into that salon not even to buy REDKEN products at their discounted price!!!!!!, THEY SUCKKKKKKK, and they need new stylists who can do great hair for less than 45 minutes to do hair that I can do soooooooooo much better, I should have just gone down to my gym and worked wonders with three brushes and my BIOSILK!, 30 minutes and free. Even their drying technique sucked, you do not dry the hairshaft up, you are supposed to dry down to smooth the cuticle, helllllllllllloooooooo, my hair was all over the salon, what a mess, I wish I had more than 2000 characters to continue to complain. Pros: N/a Cons: N/a more

Worst hair salon 7/30/2006

I should've walked out the door once I saw that the salon was practically empty on a Sunday afternoon with the exception of 2 other customers. But I didn't think it would be so bad so I gave it a shot. First of all, the woman who cut my hair barely spoke or understood English. She gave me a painful shampoo job then the most horrible hairdo I've ever had. I had asked for shorter layers. The stylist (if you can call her that) used an electric razor to cut my hair! I've never heard of this technique before and it is NOT at all good if you want layered hair. Anyway, trust me when I tell you that this place is not good. STAY AWAY! Pros: Cheap Cons: Untalented stylists more

cut with no style 6/19/2006

first of all, the stylist cannot communicate with me. i tell her something, she just doenst seem to understand me at all. i point her the style i want, she just repeatly pointing me some other styles i already told her i do not like, i know it is because she doesnt know how to cut the one i like. so after when it's done, i end up looking completely horrible. even my mom started yelling when she sees me for first time. the stylist was also rude too. please do not go, their style are all dull, maybe go for the cheap cut price. and i regret it. Cons: cannot do any latest style, hard to communicate. more

Really, really bad... 9/2/2004

Yes...the rumors are true. Jean Louis David is the worst place in NYC to get your haircut. I just moved to NY and was outraged at how expensive haircuts were so I tried JLD thinking Id get a deal. The cut and blow dry was $40 which, in NYC, is pretty cheap. But GOD..what an awful haircut! The stylist showed absolutely no precision or skill whatsoever. Most of ths staff were not very fluent in English and had a really hard time understanding what I was asking for. The only way I'd recommend this place is if you didnt have a lot of hair and just needed a very minor trim...most guys could probably get away with a cut from here...but women..BE WARNED!! I had to pay another $75 at a good salon to repair the atrocious job done at a Jean Louis David Salon. Pros: Cost, Many locations Cons: , Long waits more

Just Another Supercuts -- Maybe Worse 8/24/2004

I had one of the worst haircuts ever here. First off, they don't use scissors -- just an electric trimmer, even for the ladies. My stylist barely spoke English, so I had trouble telling her what I wanted. My bangs ended up so stringy, it looked like I hadn't washed them in weeks. I actually had to go somewhere else to get it fixed. I'd had a couple of average, Supercuts-level haircuts here before. It's nothing special -- and after the aforementioned incident, I won't be giving them any more of my business. Pros: Price more

before being laid off, i wennt to pierre michel for my $175 cuts (sans tip = tres cher). since my unemployment checks don't allow for such extravagance, i gave this jld a shot. victoria gave me a relaxing shampoo & a fab trim/style! you really can't go wrong, esp at $24!!! i gave larger tips in my pierre michel days! victoria clearly knows how to cut, wasn't inexperienced & was very patient. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Pros: VALUE!, GREAT CUT! more
