what a find! 7/18/2010

My friends and I are on st. marks at least once a week and we dine out as often as possible. i must say, i have walked by Jebon at least 20 times without so much as glancing through their window but man, after last saturday, I really feel this place deserves more attention. according to my friends who went back, the happy hour is off the hook, and anyone who is of age, needs to try the slushi sake before leaving. cheers to the owner too, very, very down to earth and chill fella. Pros: service, best sake deal on the block! Cons: only 2 bathrooms more

Terrible Service & Staff 4/21/2009

You be the judge here...I went to this spot for my lunch hour with my bf. We sat down placed our orders, the waitress brought over the soup and soda that comes with the meal. About 5-10 minutes later, the waitress brings out my bf's dish and walks away. About 20 minutes go by, he is now done with his meal, and another waitress comes over and asks if we need something to which we respond ""yes, my order"". Our waitress then comes over to our table and says the kitchen ""forgot"" to make it, do I want to wait for it? At this point, my lunch hour is over. Not once did the managaer of the restaurant come over, apologize for any inconvenience and suggest a solution or even a complementary dish. Instead, I left the restaurant hungry. How does that happen? Their wait staff is poorly trained as well as their manager. I have never been to a restaurant, especially in New York City, where a manager doesn't make up for a mistake his staff made. Any respectable restaurant will tell you this type of service is disgraceful. I wouldn't recommend anyone dine here. Not only is the service poor, the food isn't that great (I have eaten here before), and in the end you will only be waisting your time. The kitchen staff may ""forget"" an order... Pros: Nice table Cons: Staff more

Not worth it 9/17/2008

I read the last 2 reviewers and thought I'd give it a try. Big mistake. I shouldn't have expected anything good where japanese, thai and other cuisines are made by a sole national. The thai food wasn't really thai ingredients. The chinese food was fine, because it was made by Chinese people. Anyway, it was all around disappointing. The price wasn't even that cheap. Just average.\r Anyway, not planning to go back. Pros: Decor, nice service Cons: Bad food more

Re visit 4/17/2008

Last time i ate there was almost 9 months ago. Nothing was special about that visit. I went back with 2 friends last Friday and noticed immediately they have added sushi. First I thought this is just another sushi shop but after we tried their volcano roll and dragon roll, I changed my opinion. They were amazingly good. My other friend who doesn't eat sushi tried their Tender Rib Soup Ramen which she enjoyed very much too. We also tried some sake slush at a bargain happy hour price which turned out to be good too. Overalll speaking they have improved alot. more

where's the hot hostess? 4/1/2008

i came here two years ago on a business trip, thought the food was OK and service was less than ideal, but the one plus the place has got going is the pretty girl greeting everyone at the door. Asian, beautiful long hair, just gorgeous. She even served me my food, since the waitress was slow. i went back last night and she was not there anymore. if anyone remember a beautiful asian girl working there about 2 years ago, lemme know too. cos without her my food was much less than average. i am not exaggerating either. Pros: ok food for ok price Cons: hostess gone more

An amazing experience 2/28/2008

i went here after finding Je'bon on Citysearch and had some noodles, sushi and sake. I ended up finding the bellydancers down stairs and met the folks that ran it. What an amazing atmosphere! I am informing all my friends of the amazing food and great culture downstairs. Pros: sushi, bellydancing, sake, more

Fish Noodles! 2/25/2008

Went to try out Je'Bon based on reviews listed here... and I have to agree with the previous food critics here.\r \r I got the Je'Bon noodles - which has fresh fish noodles. It was delicious. The broth was light and flavorful.\r \r My friends got skewers and a seafood hotpot which were both pretty good. The seafood hotpot was a bit greasy on the bottom of the dish, but it wasn't overwhelming or anything. Both also had wonderful flavors.\r \r The staff was trying to be very attentive, but maybe too attentive for our preferences. They came by to try to take our plates twice, but we weren't finished our food yet, so we let them know. It was no big deal to us, but may cause a problem for others. I'd rather half a waitstaff that's too attentive than not attentive at all.\r \r From the front of the restaurant, you don't realize that there's a huge space in the back of the restaurant. I like it because I don't feel like I'm being cramped into a small tight space (as compared to other restaurants on St. Marks). \r \r I would definitely come back for the good food! Pros: Spacious Seating, Good Food Cons: Service more

Terrible service, couldn't tell you about the never came. 11/3/2007

I was pretty excited to try this place, despite its poor choice of blasting techno music. My boyfriend got his appetizer and meal (while I sat there watching him eat) about 20 minutes before the waitress finally came over and asked, ""Are you missing something?"" I replied, ""Yes, MY MEAL."" She walked away. Still no food for me. After another 10 minutes, I called her over and she told me the chefs were ""busy."" All I ordered was a spicy tuna roll and a salmon roll...nothing crazy. I asked for the check and she didn't even take anything off the bill, let alone apologize. Pros: Apparently good noodles...if they come. Cons: Service, Ambience more

pretty yummy 7/18/2007

i've been here a couple times for lazy sunday lunches and i've always enjoyed the food. it's reasonably priced, \r tasty, and the owner is friendly and nice. it's been empty every time i've been there, but it might be more crowded during evenings. Pros: good food, friendly owner, not crowded during sunday lunch Cons: no liquor license, ambience not the nicest more

don't even bother 7/6/2007

If you are a food lover you will take my advise. Don't waste money and time trying \r this restaurant. The food was horrible and it taste it like dirty cloth...I you know what I mean. more

Great for large crowds. Good food! 3/12/2007

If you want yummy, cheap food, go to Je'Bon. They have an inexpensive menu with most pan-asian staples. My friends and I tried their beef fried rice ( tender, flavorful), pad thai (NOT dry! steaming hot!), crab meat stick (grilled, tempura-like crab roll wth great house seasoning) salmon roll (light and tasty, not too fishy), skewers (well-seasoned, hearty portions). The staff is extremely friendly. Got the entire lower level for about fifteen of my friends. Owner was great! He provided our own waiter. I'd suggest that you negotiate a different menu for the buffet style dinner for a private party. BYOB! Great location in the middle of the whole St. Marks's scene. You can go to the slew of bars nearby! IRT close. Plan to go again with my friend! Pros: Cheap menu. Good Food. Excellent Service more

Great Hong Kong Style Noodles 3/11/2007

I am a lover of Hong Kong style noodles. These are as good as authentic shops in Chinatown and Flushing. The advantage Je Bon has is its great location, atmosphere, and friendly service and owners. I have yet to try the rest of their menu, and I don't think I will until I get completely bored of the hong kong noodles... but I certainly am looking forward to it! more

Not recommended 1/13/2007

Decent Decor but food wasn't all that appetizing. Pad Thai too salty for my taste. Appetizers were not that great either Pros: decent decor Cons: below average food more

Edible but nothing special 12/3/2006

Given the number of great eats in the area vying for diners, I honestly cannot see this place surviving for more than another few months. I grew up eating Chinese food, and the noodle broths that Je'Bon offers are certainly nothing special -- if anything, the broths are quite bland. However, the noodles themselves have pretty good texture (al dente). The appetizers are tasty, if a bit overpriced ($4 for three steamed pork buns). The servers are nice, but very slow and inefficient. The concept of Je'Bon has great potential, but is not executed properly here. Pros: Always seats available, clean, entrees are a decent value Cons: Bland, appetizers overpriced, slow service more
