JAS mart is a cute little Japanese outpost that usually serves as both a grocery store and dessert/snack shop. They have really yummy looking desserts that look mouth-watering. I...

Okay, but there are better 3/10/2006

JAS Mart is good (I find the one on 23rd off Madison has the best selection for cooks), but I much prefer Sunshine Mart on 9th Street off third (it's on the second floor) both in terms of prices and selection. Still, if you enjoy cooking Japanese food, or are just amused by mystery food in elaborate packaging, it's always worth a stop in JAS Mart if only for the huge selection of Pocky. more

Go to Japan without a passport! 1/11/2006

I love to visit JASMART because it's so much fun to check out all the Japanese delicious delicacies. They have prepared sushi - which is good, not great. They also have a pretty nice selection of Japanese toiletries. There are refrigerated items like red bean cakes (mmmm! delicious) and jelly-candies (I recommend mango!). My favorite part is the rice cracker snacks that I mainly can't understand but very much enjoy looking at the pictures and eating what's inside! more

Japanese grocery downstairs, prepared food upstairs 12/5/2005

If only I understood Japanese -- I'd probably spend a fortune on all these interesting looking groceries. Since I don't, I stick mostly to the exotic packaged and frozen snack foods. Say what you want about French desserts, but the Japanese have really got it going on when it comes to cookies, crackers and ice treats. Sweet, salty, spicy -- or all three combined. And candies with funny names that make great gifts. ("Fresh Taste Blueberry Relax Candy" is my favorite.) There are also lots of cooking ingredients, an aisle of grooming supplies and even a few Hello Kitty housewares. Upstairs is a bakery and some already prepared foods that you can eat right there. Groceries aren't cheap, but there is always a sale area across from the cash registers where you can find a good deal on a weird snack. more

Japanese groceries rock! 8/17/2005

JAS Mart is great for those who love Japanese groceries as much as I do. There are some cosmetics from Kose and smaller Japanese brands. Japanese snacks and prepackaged food are delicious. There is always a sale section where you can pick up packed noodles and bottled milk tea, etc., for 99 cents. more
