Japanese Tea Garden 8/11/2006

The Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco is beautiful! It is located in Golden Gate Park near the museums and is a quiet, serene oasis is a bustling city. The gardens meander, so make sure to take all of the pathways. There are a few signs for the pagoda, Buddha statue and some other interesting statues which added to the experience. There is also a gift store (of course) and a place to get tea (another obvious). It costs $3.50 to get in, but if you go before 9:30 a.m. it is free (we found this out on accident). One word of caution, be careful what paths you choose if you have a stroller or wheel chair. Some, but not all, paths are difficult if not impossible to maneuver. more

Totally disappointing 6/15/2006

I saw a really great Japanese Tea Garden in Portland, and when I heard there was one in Golden Gate Park, I had to go. Wow, what a disappointment. It is a tourist spot, and it basically looks like someone's backyard. It was almost insulting, as a Japanese American, to see how bastardized this place is. more

Japanese Tea Garden 4/3/2006

The Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate park is one of the quieter tourist sites in the city, but is still not to be missed. While a bit small, the grounds are beautiful and well kept. The atmosphere is serene and it's a nice little place to walk through or to take a break from the rest of the city. I always stop and get a pot of green tea and some crackers at the little tea house in the center of the gardens. The view is fabulous, with an overlook of the koi ponds and gardens. more

Hidden Gem 4/2/2006

My friend and I went on a low budget tour of SF and we found this place at Golden Gate Park. To our dismay, it costs money to enter, but we paid the price and were thoroughly pleased. The garden is not all that big, so do not imagine anything like the Huntington Garden in Pasadena. It is small and cozy and very peaceful. You can walk around the enter place in ten minutes. I recommend doing a few rounds and walking backwards and taking various paths to get to the same place because the experience every time is VERY different. I especially like this one bridge that is very difficult to cross, but very fun too. The stairs are nice and everything from the rocks to the plants are pleasing to the eye. I have not tried the tea at this place, so I am in no position to talk about that here. more

Nice gardens 8/18/2005

The Japanese Tea Garden is a beautiful place to visit in Golden Gate Park. It's a great place to take family and friends, and it's also a great place to go to alone. It's very peaceful and quiet there, very conducive to meditation. I believe they charge a small admission fee. more

Good place to relax. 8/15/2005

The Japanese Tea Garden is located in Golden Gate Park. It is very beautiful there, especially in the spring time. It's very relaxing to take a stroll around there. I love walking up and down the Japanese bridge next to the zen garden. Admission is also very cheap, only 3.50. It is definitely a great place to spend some time relaxing during the weekend. more

Ok 8/6/2005

This is a pretty nice place with alot of historical flowers and a nice setting. This is a fun place to take kids and groups of tourists except for the price. THe location is easy access is when you go in, you should put on bug spray. It is very easy to get bitten. This has a huge park where you can have a picnic. It is important though that you find a good day, because it is hard to have good weather in that part of the city. more

quiet little space 8/3/2005

this is such a cool little space in the middle of this huge golden gate park. you can go and walk around for a little while and then go and get some tea, they give you a plate of cookies with it, and you can get some cool Japanese candy if you want. the one thing they don't have is a Koi pond which seemed a little strange to me. more

Amazing place 7/16/2005

The Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park is absolutely amazing. I actually couldn't believe such a beautiful place existed inside San Francisco. I went in the spring, when everything was blossoming. Aside from the flowers and plants, there are also Buddhist statues, a zen garden, and Japanese bridges. This is one of the best places to go and relax, and admission is only $3.50. In my opinion, you can't find a better way to spend that kind of money. more
