Discriminatory Garden for disabled 6/13/2011

This garden's website claims it is wheelchair and stroller friendly which is completely false and an outright lie. The garden is not accessible at all with no ramps to the main features of the Garden. I complained to management and asked for my money back and was told rudely that "the garden is not for everyone and meant for those that can walk" This is discriminatory and also misleading for customers paying to see the park who cant access the garden in wheelchairs and strollers. more

Serenity 1/17/2006

The serenity of the Japanese culture is incorporated into every aspect of this garden. The use of stone and sand shows the delicate balance of these materials. The lawns are green and inviting and surrounded by amazing landscaping. My favorite parts are the large waterfall and the pathway that winds through a huge stand of iris. Be sure to include this place in your visit to Portland. more

Tourist Spot 1/8/2006

With so many beautiful free gardens in the Portland area, I don't see the need to spend money to enjoy one. The Japanese Garden charges an entrance fee that I am sure go to a great cause. A wonderful place to take out of town family or visit if you are a tourist, the private grounds is traditional Japanese style and offers a meditative quality. Due to the expense, it is not a place I visit often, but I do recommend at least one visit. more

Gorgeous 10/7/2005

I have returned to the Japanese gardens on many occasions, and it is a beautiful setting on both rainy Portland days as well as sunny ones. The gardens are set in Portland's west hills, and there are various areas with great views overlooking the city and the mountains. The landscape is wonderful & authentic Japanese, and the size of the gardens is impressive at 5.5 acres. There are also many water features/ponds with koi, as well as a sand & stone garden that is interesting to see on such a large scale. Great place to visit, although $6.75 for adults can add up depending on the size of your party. more

Picture Perfect! 9/23/2005

The Japanese Garden, located in the West Hills of Portland, is acutally divided into five seperate gardens: Strolling Pond Garden, Tea Garden, Natural Garden, Flat Garden, and the Sand and Stone Garden. The gardens are just beautiful and provide a peaceful, tranquil envirionment. They have many events taking place each month, such as writing workshops, tea, and other exhibits. You can sign up for an informative tour if you would like. They have daily tours April through October. Don't forget to stop off at the gift shop on your way out. You won't be disappointed! They have a nice selection of gifts including; tea pots, books, candles, chop sticks, toys, garden items, and much more. Highly recommended! more

The Japanese Garden is a great place to go and see some of the horticulture in Japan. They have a huge variety of plants, trees, and shrubs from Japan along with some of there religious statues. Admission is: Adults $6.75 Seniors $5.00 (62 & over) College Students $5.00 (College ID is required) Students (6-17) $4.00 Children five and under are free They have a gift shop to. If you are looking for something to do with Nature or just want to be outside go and check this place out its great! more

Japanese Gardens 8/19/2005

Located in the lush heart of Washington Park at approximately 500 feet in elevation, with an overview of downtown, this is one of the most beautiful areas in Portland and is considered to be one of the most authentic Japanese gardens anywhere outside of Japan itself. It actually consists of 5 distinct gardens. more
