Not sure what unwound CSTock's clock, but have been to Jake's on 9th Ave more than twice, and have always had consistent bar food and great service. The atmosphere is surprisingly chill for a 'saloon' - it's more like a crossover between that and a Soho lounge - and this place remade what was once a great restaurant (Sauce) into an even better local bar and intermediary Meatpacking/ Chelsea spot.
Went in there a few times now with some friends and had a great time every time. Every TV they have - and there are almost too many - are tuned to different channels, and the staff will put an obscure game on (Gonzaga State women's basketball?!) if you request it without batting an eyelash. And they have a great Happy Hour food/drink list wish makes me wish I didn't work days!
Oh, and I've been to the Half King - great spot in it's own way - but if you want sports , their two 'televisions,' probably purchased during the Reagan administration, kinda just didn't cut it.
Pros: Great spot, fun staff, very personable
Cons: More drink specials at night maybe??
