Best clinic I've ever found. Takes good care of our animals and the cost is literally half that of the Jennings County Clinic. I'm a happy return customer! more

Not sure why this one person had problems here. I have been using this vet for over 20 years and all my animal's had the best care. I moved to Odessa where I used a different vet just one time for a spayed and de claw on one of my cats and she came back all bloody paws still bleeding. So now I take the drive from Odessa to Independence for all my animal needs. When my dog Spirit was a pup and got loose someone returned him to JCAH because of his tags they left me a phone message and they kept him all weekend. I was so thankful and when I picked him up and asked what the charge was they said nothing they were happy to get him back to his owner. Not to many vet clinic's would do that for there pets. When I had to put my animal's down because of old age ect. ect. I was allowed to stay as long as I needed with them while they went to doggy heaven. I would recommend this vet clinic to any one who needs a vet no questions asked. Sincerely\r Paulina more

We have been taking our pets to JCAH for over 30 years, and we have always received very professional and compassionate treatment there. The staff is very friendly, and they go out of their way to answer questions and to soothe the worried pet owner (me). I never hesitate to recommend JCAH to pet owners looking for good veterinary services. Contrary to a comment made here earlier by someone else, I never feel rushed when discussing a concern with the veterinarian, and I truly feel that my pets' best interests are being considered. The only negative I might mention is that I wish they had a bigger parking lot!!! more

Depends on what you want 2/4/2012

This place is good for cheap medications and visits but every time we saw the vet it was basically ""what can we do/say/sell that is the quickest answer"" instead of actually taking time to really care/discuss the situation and figure it out. Also they do grooming but I could have done a better job myself at home. There's a reason they only charge $18 and found that out that frustrating way! My advice is to go there for meds but dont trust much else. more

Good Place 1/13/2012

I took my dog to this place to get his tooth pulled and cleaned and overall had a great experience. I drop off my dog at 8 in the morning and was told to call around 2 to see when to pick him up. At 2 I called the place and was told he was doing find and I could pick him up around 4:30. I did ask over the phone how much it would cost and was not given an exact amount. That made me worried. When I got to the vet I was told that they had to remove two of my dog's teeth instead of one. I wasnot told this until then and was worried that they were tring to nick and dime me. But when I talked to the vet she showed me the teeth she pulled and sure enough they both did need to come out. I was not charged for the second tooth just the first and the cleaning. I could tell that my dog was well taken care of. He was happy and running around. The staff here was very friendly and helpful, the office and rooms were very clean. The price that I paid was very fair and I am very happy with the service that I got. I plan on taking my dog to no other vet but this one. more

Kind knowledgable staff 11/3/2011

I have been going here about 6 years now. Many cats and dogs. They are compasionate and caring. I can get in right away. The vet I believe once retired and came back due to some problem with the vet who took over the practice. I believe he did not like the way the business was being run. This man knows his business. The entire staff is compasionate and if you can't pay at the time they work with you. The vet at times does not even charge or reduces the fees. I went there because the costs are minimal and I stayed there because of the kindness and very knowledgeable staff and doctor. Thank you Jackson County Animal. more

A Gentle Presence In My Time Of Sadness 4/12/2011

I took my beautiful Irish Wolfhound girl in there earlier this year. She would have been 6 in July. My sweet angel got a brown recluse spider bite on the left side of her tail. No matter what I "knew" to do, it just would not heal. In an unreal short amount of time, this bite robbed her of the muscle in her hips and she was quickly losing her ability to stand/walk. I knew her quality of life was no more. I took her in and Dr. O'Brien and the staff were incredible. They were kind, gentle, talked with me, listened to me go over and over about what a "good girl" she was. And when he examined her, he knew too that she was at her end and he kindly helped her out of her misery to that sweet, forever sleep. I was allowed to sit with her and cry 'as long as I needed'. Dr. O'Brien sat with me, then left me to my tears. When I felt okay enough to get up...they listened to me some more, with gentle words of sorrow and sympathy. I had very kind treatment at JCAH in my time of sorrow an more

RE: Horrible if you could have heard her cry. 4/5/2011

There are several flaws in your rambling review of Jackson County Animal Hospital. Let me start by saying that me and my family (parents AND children...3 generations) have been taking our pets exclusively to this clinic for more than 30 years and have yet to witness a single incident in which an animal was mistreated. I'd also like to mention the fact that the proprietor has been practicing Veterinary Medicine for more than 40 years and successfully owned and operated 3 small animal practices as well as 2 large animal operations. It is ridiculous to assume that someone who went through so many years of college and dedicated his whole life to animal care would be incapable of finding a dog's uterus/ovaries is a total fabrication. He is nationally recognized for much of the work he has done and is well respected by many other practitioners of Veterinary Medicine as well as several generations of animal lovers in Independence. Whatever issues you had with your visit to this establishment are yours and yours alone. You might want to calm down and brush up on your grammar. more

I gotta find my doctor!! 2/19/2011

Dr O'Brien is top of the notch vet! Totally cared for my pets and "they" showed it! Nothing like your pet showing they aren't scared or just totally shook up about going to the vet! All of my pets before my Yorkies didn't appreciate me taking them to see what was considered to them that mean old doctor! (other vets of course) But my Yorkies, my mom's dogs, my brothers German Shepherds who don't let anyone come near them! They all are excited as soon as we get in the area of Dr. O'Brien!! It was very disheartening to find he is no longer at Jackson County Animal Hospital! Oh were oh were has he gone??? Please, Please, Please if anyone knows, PLEASE do tell!!! I'm on facebook.... (elizabeth peales) PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE! more

Great All around vet 2/12/2010

The first time I met Dr. O'Brien and his staff, was when I had to bring one of my goats in after a dog attack. Dr. O'Brien is knowledgeable and his staff is friendly. I liked the fact that Dr. O discussed with me what I have done for treatment and what I can still do and didn't try to push more services on that were not needed. Having worked for various vets before I am very picky about my Vet and the staff they have working with them, it has taken me a long time to find vet care that I feel has the best interest of my furry family in mind and not their pocket book. I will continue using Dr. O for All my needs (3dogs, 3cats, 5goats, and a flock of chickens)\r I will say at the time I went into the clinic it smelled like they had a sick parvo puppy, but sometimes that is to be expected. more

Jackson County Animal Hospital is GREAT! 2/3/2010

Jackson County Animal Hospital is GREAT! My cat needed his teeth cleaned and everywhere I looked cost $200.00 or more. I finally found Jackson County Animal Hospital and the cost there was only $50.00. When I arrived I found out that January was 'dental month' and I received an additional 20% off. The staff was courteous, kind to my pet and were patient with me as I had quite a few questions. I would recommend taking your pet there as the cost is low and the staff is great! more

Jackson County Animal Hospital is Terrible! 12/1/2009

We adopted our puppy at three months old and JCAH was the referred hospital to take our dog to finish up her shots and get her spayed - both of which were included in the adoption fee.Their office is very dirty, they are unprofessional (for example, the vet was talking on his cell phone to his wife while giving my dog her shots) and they are extremely rude - on the phone and in person. My fiance took our dog in this morning to get her spayed and the woman at the front desk was heartless. Our dog is now a party of our family, and she didn't make him feel at all comfortable leaving her with them. He asked if she needed to see any of her paperwork and she said "no, you can call back at 1:30 and see how she is..." She didn't ask for any information on the dog, didn't fill us in on what was going to happen or how long the procedure should take. She just grabbed our dog and told him "ok!" Our poor puppy was whining and resisting getting put in to one of their kennels - she sleeps in a kenne more

Jackson County Animal Hospital is amazing 8/22/2009

When my dog Zeus broke his leg, They did everything they could to save it. They tried doing surgery on it but when that didn't work, they didn't charge me. They then went out of their way to order special casting material and it worked! They even let me make payments to them for his care. Dr Obrien is wonderful more

Jackson County Animal Hospital is wonderful 8/4/2009

they are wonderful, they spayed and neutered all 4 of my dogs and treated them with the up most kindness. prices are great compaired to a lot of other animal hospitals. more

Jackson County Animal Hospital is awful and don't go by code or the law! 7/24/2009

When Dr. Magby was the vet there she was an awesome awesome vet but this young guy that works there as a vet is just awful. He doesn't care and they raised their prices and they smoke in the vet and don't go by codes or the laws. Dr. Magby would be applaud if she knew and she might. Don't go their they are not not good if you care anything about your pets! CD more

Jackson County Animal Hospital is the worst place to take your animal. 7/21/2009

My dog had dew claws removed a couple of weeks ago.Two stitches didn't take and left a big gaping hole in his leg. I called them back, they said to bring him in,well, the vet removed the bandages, took one look and said that it looked fine. I believe he re bandaged the wound with the old bandages, no antibiotics were given on either visits, and had me remove my dog from the examining table. Then said to take bandages off in three days, well I did and the wound looks worse.I am taking him to a different animal hospital first thing in the morning. I refuse to go to this vet ever again and will advise people to do the same. more

Jackson County Animal Hospital is Highly Recommended 6/20/2009

I've used this vet service since 1999. The current Vet took over a couple of years ago. I have received great services from the new Vet as well as the two retired Vets. I now live close to 435 & 63rd St, but still drive to Independence to this Vet. I have a Vet that is less than 1/2 mile away, but using this Vet is worth driving the extra miles. Plus the fees are reasonable. I took an injured wild bird in once. They took care of it until is was healthy enough to set free. more

I love JCAH! They are life savers. Literally. 12/18/2008

I have two dogs. Spot and Daisy. About 8 years ago we got Spot. He got ran over by a truck a few months later. The man took him to a vet here in Blue Springs and they said he needed to be put down. We took him over to Jackson County and they saved his little life. Spot was healthy ever since until recently he got kidney stones and arthiritis. They have helped him a bunch and he is a lot better.\r Daisy had heart worms a few years ago and they have been able to give us meds for reasonable prices. Surgeries have been too. The people are friendly and empathetic and adore Spot. They know him as the smiley dog because he smiles. \r Sometimes I think they know Spot's name better than they know my familie's name. \r They also healed my mom's dog Paulita when the neighbor's dog attacked her back in '96. more

I would think Twice!!! 10/28/2008

I took 2 of my rats here (both at the same time) that were suffering from mammatory tumors and unfortunately need to be put down. The doctor first injected them with enough sedative to knock them out (supposedly a surgical state) then proceeded to inject them with something else directly in their hearts however was unsuccessful on the first attempt and how to puncture the heart again. I have had rats prior to this that had to be put down and the process was no way near this traumatizing to myself or the rats. I should have payed the extra money and taken them to my normal vet. I feel guilty now! more

heart sick over suffer and pain 10/12/2008

OMG . this butcher should never be around animals. He was supposed to fix (spayed) a female dog. Half way into the procedure he called to say he couldnt find the uterus or ovaries and asked if she had been fixed before.. When told that no she was a registered breed and was bought as a show dog as a puppy and was only around a year old so she hadnt had time to be spayed before. He then kept her overnight. When she was returned the next day he said he could only find one ovary but he hadnt removed it and he could not find the uterus (ok, why!! wasnt this whole reason for the surgery? he said he wasnt sure that it was the ovary ) The dog kept crying and he said she was just acting like a baby. He didnt send home any pain medicin or any antibiotics. And the only instructions were to keep her quite. She cried all night and when her dressing was changed the next day it was soaked with blood. He had been called the night before about her pain but he was getting ready to close and didnt w more
