Editorial review from Citysearch 11/17/2012

Just called to make a reservation for 10 for Sunday at 12:30PM. Manager said no to the reservation, they would be too busy. Well, that's definitely 10 less he'll be busy with because we're going somewhere else!!! How Rude!!! more

Two Words I Don't Like...Expensive and Inedible 3/22/2012

I agree with the review entitled ""Rip Off!"" because my recent experience with the J. Alexanders on White Bridge was a terrible experience. My husband and I thought we'd try to find a decent place to eat, because I have special dietary needs. I had only tried J Alexander's once before, and had a fairly good experience then, but it seems that the prices have gone up. If I want to pay $27 for Ahi Tuna Steak, I will go to Stony River or to the original Sperry's in Belle Meade, not to a place where my food was cold and the piece of Ahi I got was a gristly, $1.50 piece of fish bait; I was expecting sushi quality, but got this rubbery, flavorless yuck. Ahi should be cooked one way...rare, but when the waiter asked me how I'd like it cooked, I should have known that ""rare"" to them means that you will get a tough sear with medium through most of the cut and spots of rare fish that was not fresh. To give credit to our waiter, he at least had the decency to remove the charge from our ticket. My husband was disappointed in his cut of New York Strip, as well, and said he wouldn't be back, and that if he is going to pay that much for a steak, he would go back to Sperry's. After I got home from this train wreck, I spent the night retching. Such a disappointment! J Alexanders, here's a word of advice: if you expect to stay open in this economy, you need to switch to a vendor that won't sell you cat food! more

Rip Off! 11/16/2011

Want a rip-off? Dine at J. Alexander's. Direct quote from the manager at J. Alexander's tonight: ""Yes, our prices go up when it gets dark outside."" (After I tried to place a to go order for a cup of Chicken Pasta soup. The price went from $5 to $6 just because they are now on the dinner menu.) ABSURD!!! They have just lost countless loyal customers because of this inconsideration, selfishness, and greediness! more

Good Times at J Alexander's 7/18/2011

I met with some friends for lunch I had not seen in some time. We wanted a place to not only enjoy a great meal, but a place we could relax and enjoy visiting without feeling we needed to move on so others could have a place to be served. This was a great dining experience and the service was excellent. We are already planning our next visit. Thank you so much for making our visit so comfortable and memorable. The food and service was exceptional! more

I almost wish I could find 1 negative 7/31/2010

I have been to J alexanders so many times ive lost count. I actually ONLY get the same meal every time I go (probably because im afraid if i get something different i wont like it and have a bad eating exp.) Of course they have to best spinach queso ive ever had. And i get the steak maui every time. Its not as expensive as most say (well, that is with what ""I"" get) and i dont get drinks from the bar because that does get expensive real quick. I cant stand paying 7-8 bucks for a small mixed drink. But for the food, its definatly a great place to go. Going tonight! Pros: WONDERFUL Food and Service Cons: Travel time..the closest one is 30-45 mins away more

Consistently Excellent Meals 9/6/2009

I love J Alexanders restaurant it is very consistent you can go to one in Atlanta or Nashville and you will have the same excellent meal. The prices are kind of high but you do seem to get alot for your money. I really enjoy the friendly staff and the ambience during the day is casual and well lit power lunch type crowd but at night can be romantic and casual or very dressy depending on your mood. They will make sure you are taken care of. I really like chain restaurants because they do have customer service in mind which it's a pretty simple concept actually. This is why they are successful in my mind.My favorite things on the menu are the Fish of the day over Israeli couscous and coleslaw, Chicken salad with feta, Spinach and queso and the fresh Guacamole is great too. My boyfriend loves the french dip. The rattlesnake pasta is amazing enough for 2 adults! There really isn't anything I would not eat off that menu. J Alexanders in my opinion is the best place in Nashville for a wonderful and delicious meal EVERY TIME. Pros: Tasty Food Cons: Can be pricey more

Service Doesn't Come Cheap 3/10/2009

J. Alexander's is the prototypical American cuisine with top notch service. That service comes with a price, no doubt. The food is good and a server will be at your ever beck and call in case your glass appears to be just short of full. It is for this reason that common entrees will certainly cost more than they should. Expect to pay ten bucks for a hamburger. On a more positive note, the cheesecake is nothing short of pure bliss. Even better, the dessert will serve two, HEARTY eaters. The Cheesecake Factory in Green Hills wishes it could make this cheesecake. Pros: service Cons: cost more

Great food, service and price. 3/7/2009

My husband and I took our friends to dinner at J.Alexanders on a Saturday night and had a 10 minute wait, free parking, great food and excellent service. I had the Fish of the Day, Cod with couscous and my hubbie had a marvelous strip with fries. My friend had carrot cake that she could not stop raving about!!! Pros: Free Parking, no wait Cons: no live music more

Food and service ideal. 3/31/2008

Great food and great service. Menu offers variety and top quality. Perhaps best casual dining in Nashville. Portions are large and tasty, sauces, preparation, side dishes are outstanding. Every meal has been consistent and quality excellent. Severs always friendly and efficient. Pros: Food quality, service attentiveness, food choices. Cons: Just a bit pricey. more

Great Service 12/27/2007

Every time we go here, the waiters and waitresses are fabulous. They are always well informed of the specials and happily answer and questions we have. The way they describe the food makes everything sound so good! There is a lot of choices on the menu and all is reasonably priced. The chicken pasta soup and the cheese dip are good choices. Pros: Service, Variety, Good Prices more

Our special night out place 11/30/2007

I like good food, but I'm on a budget. This particular J. Alexander's not only offers great food for a reasonable price, but they really do have quality service. We've always had efficient, friendly, and knowledgable servers. Their recommendations have yet to disappoint. The atmosphere is romantic. Best of all, it's away from downtown with plenty of parking in the shopping center lot. Pros: Ample parking, swift seating, creative menu Cons: Some areas near the bar are dark - not too good for ""old"" eyes more

Great dining experience 10/16/2007

We had dinner at J. Alexanders on White Bridge last night. It was our first time there. The food, atmosphere, service and value were outstanding. Much preferred it to our expensive, disappointing experience at Flemings. Pros: Food, service, atmosphere, value Cons: Can't really think of any, but it is a bit of a drive if you live north more

Outstanding Restaurant 3/7/2006

One of my very favorite restaurants. The service is always outstanding and professional. I like the steaks, prime rib and fresh seafood selections. The New York Strip and Filet are excellent. The menu states all the beef is Certified Angus Beef. I dined at Shulas Steakhouse in Birmingham last week and they had Certified Angus Beef. It was good BUT twice the price of the steaks at J. Alexanders. I also like all the seafood. The Norwegian salmon is the best is Nashville. Crab cakes are sometimes available and they are the best in town as well. All the food is fresh and the atmosphere is very posh. Salads and desserts are first class as well. The Chocolate cake is really rich and it comes with Blue Bell Ice Cream. It is really hard to believe this place is part of a chain because everything is so fresh and good. Pros: Food Quality, Service, Atmosphere more

Was I EVER shocked! 1/4/2006

I could not have asked for a better experience! Our server told us the specials without us even asking for them and we got a beef and a seafood special. The filett was cooked perfectly, the trout was INCREDIBLE and the carrot cake was to die for! We also had a really hard time picking a wine because their list is so good and reasonably priced! We had great service, the atmpophere was perfect and the food was better than we could have ever expected! Pros: Parking, Service, Food Quality Cons: None!! more

The Bar Booths 2/19/2004

You really don't want one of those booths in the dark, romantic bar. It is full of beautiful people and great employees, often talkative. You especially don't want the 6th booth from the steps, IT IS MINE, SO GO EAT AT A TABLE!!! Pros: EMPLOYEES, FOOD more

Great desserts!!! 2/13/2003

Okay, J's has the best desserts in the entire world. If you don't try their Very Best Chocolate Cake, you are doing yourself and injustice. The rest of the menu is simply wonderful. I have been going there for about 2 years as a regular (I'm talking at least twice a month, and I've probably only been slightly dissappointed once. Go, you'll never regret it!! Oh, they have call ahead seating... more

Taken Back 7/11/2002

I took some friends to J. Alexander's on White Bridge Road and was amazed. We have always been fans of the restaurant because it's the best kept red meat and seafood secret in town but we were knocked out by the new remodel. The place is way cool without trying to look trendy. The wood fired rotisserie chicken was mouth watering and my wife's Pasta Ya Ya was great. They have always been known for desserts and the key lime pie smokes everybody's. Pros: Huge value, friendly, precise service Cons: busy, need more apps more

Best Baby Back Rib's.... 6/4/2002

I eat at J Alexanders at leat once a month and they have the Best Baby Back Rib's in Nashville. My last visit was Friday the 31st of May and the rib's out done there self on this visit, they just fell off the bone, and the taste was just great. The waiter we had on this last visit was not the best, we have had better service on other visits. If you've tried rib's elsewhere and you wont the best try J Alexanders, you wont go wrong. Pros: Great Rib's Cons: So, So service more
