Steaks are always cooked just the way I ask them and the wait service is very professional. Whether I'm dining in with my wife and friends or just stop in for a drink at the bar, this is a great place to be. more

Great place to go on ""date night"", ambience' and customer service is top notch. Haven't EVER had a bad meal here. All the steaks and crab soup, melt in your mouth. more

best steak I've had 7/24/2010

This place was soooo good we came two nights in a row! Everything was perfectly made on both nights. Even the salad made me ecstatic! The steak was cooked perfectly; it was juicy, flavorful, and delicious. The service was also great on both nights. I cant think of any way to describe it except perfect! Pros: Everything!! more

Wow. Quite possibly the best steak I've ever had! I'm still feeling euphoric from the meal. I know what you're thinking and, no, I am not an employee =) The atmosphere was great. Dim lighting and very relaxed. At the same time it is very upscale and VERY expensive. $40 steak (which melted in my mouth) with a glass of wine and 15% gratuity rounded out a $65 bill for just myself! The staff had their noses turned a bit too far into the air for my liking, but at these prices, what do you expect? They weren't unpleasant, but definitely did not leave me with a ""warm fuzzy"" feeling. If you can splurge, staff be damned, this meal was excellent! Pros: Excellent food, great ambiance Cons: Expensive! more

Washington DC Location! 1/23/2009

J. Gilberts is a terrific place for many reasons. Their prices are less than the high end steak houses in Washington and their steaks and other menu choices are simply better than most of the others. One does not pay for a Washington name like The Palm, etc.. which is good but surely not great, and their prices are literally crazy. J. Gilbert's steaks are out of this world - that simple. Their service is good but not great, however. How someone can say J. Gilberts is ok, average or bad, is beyond me - they must work for the competition!! One would expect to find the quality of J. Gilberts in the heart of downtown - but they are 5 minutes from my McLean, VA home and is a great place, only enhanced by being so close to my house. J. Gilberts is absolutely terrific!! Pros: steaks are unbelievable, desserts yummy, bar very friendly, prices are good for what you get! Cons: service could be more consistent - not bad but could be better more

Excellent restaurant for special occasions 5/9/2008

My husband brought me to J Gilbert's for my birthday (which is on Valentine's Day). Though the restaurant was quite busy, our booth seating was cozy and intimate. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and attentive, our food was superb (I had steak and lobster, and my husband had lamb chops), but best of all was the chocolate souffle. This dessert was a chocolate lover's dream for sure. We will definitely be going to J Gilberts again and bringing our friends. The cost was very reasonable for the excellent quality of food and service we received. Pros: Ambience is warm and romantic and food is delish! Cons: A bit of a drive from north KC, but worth it more

CONSISTENTLY great meals. Arguably among the very best in Kansas City. This has been a ""never miss"" restaurant. We go there quite often and find it a great evening out. Pros: Great food. Nice atmosphere. Mango martinis are a staple. Cons: There aren't any. more

Wonderful evening 3/8/2005

My wife and I went to J Gilbert's to celebrate. We both had an incredible 6 oz filet. The crab bisque is out of this world. We had an average dessert...but were so floored by how great everything else was that we didn't care. more

Anniversary Dinner 1/6/2005

J Gilbert's was our choice for our 21st Wedding Anniversary. The experience was wonderful! We recommend sitting near the fireplace, picking one of the appetizers, the shrimp are excellent here. Steak is the house specialty and it doesn't dissappoint, the 6oz steaks are so tender you can cut them with your fork. The wine list is excellent and if you like martini's and cigars, they have em on the menu. If you go ask specifically for one of the wait staff. Ask for ERIC! No waiting for refills, no waiting for a course, no problems...... Pros: Excellent food, Great Atmosphere, Quality Service more

Exceptional steaks 11/19/2003

J. Gilbert's is definitely worth the trip to Overland Park. In my view, some of the greatest steaks in the Metro area can be had here. Though a bit pricey, the food is excellent and the hushed lighting provides an ambiance that can quite romantic. Will return and return. Pros: Ample Parking, Excellent food, Courteous staff Cons: Price, Long wait sometimes more

3 Strikes You're Out 1/2/2003

I went to J Gilbert's once and that was enough. After the third attempt to get what amounted to be a paper thin KC strip cooked pink on the inside I gave up. To their credit they did comp my meal, but then I never got to eat it. There are too many quality steak joints in the KC area to waste your time on this chain. Forget the big well known names in Steak Houses. J. Gilberts is simply the BEST!! In their Washington, D.C. location (where I live) they blow the Sam & Harry's and Capital Grill's out of the water. Truly!!! It's not even close!! The steaks are beyond yummy as is everything on the menu. more

The steaks are of the finest quality. Cooked to the customers specifications. Grilled vegitables add a very nice touch. The service is awesome! more
