Iris Salon

After reading the reviews, I was really excited to try this place for a pedicure and eyebrow wax. When I arrived, there was no bottle of water (or employee, for that matter) waiting - just someone yelling out what I wanted from their station. Meanwhile, four other girls walk in and all are served before me, though the employees are almost continually calling out what they want multiple times and conversing about it throughout the process. 20 minutes later, I am still waiting in the lobby with zero communication on when I will be served. A few minutes later, a woman who I have not seen before asks me to follow her. Mass confusion ensues with me trailing her throughout the salon as she goes back and forth conversing with numerous employees. Without a word, she proceeds with the pedicure which was neither delicate nor relaxing. She ignores me completely and finishes the American manicure without asking about my preferences on the length of my toenails or the size of the white strip on the top of them. Afterward, she takes me to the dryer, where I am asked if I was the one who wanted the eyebrow wax. I reply, ""No,"" but then start thinking it would be a good idea. So when the next person asks me if I originally wanted the eyebrow wax (still no), I say, ""Can I please add one on?"" Again, mass confusion ensues which results in no shortage of a half dozen different people then asking if I want an eyebrow wax. Finally, I am led back by someone else this time. Again, the experience is pretty rough, with scalding wax and menacing tweezers. Also, she fails to question about my preferences on eyebrow appearance. Please allow me to clarify that I have had countless pedicures and eyebrow waxes in the past and know that there is a bit of discomfort to be expected. However, in this situation, it was of a pronounced level. There also was no soothing cream following the wax, only trimming, ripping, tweezing and done. Cons: horrible service more

This is my second review of this place, not because I decided to go back after the first terrible experience. I'm having to write this again because my initial constructive criticism was removed for some random reason. The place is drab but tries to convey itself as a professional spa. Their prices are high and the service is shotty. I went out of convenience and thought I would explore a less pricey place than where I was going before but ended up being scammed into paying even more for cheaper quality service. I stopped in for a mani/pedi since it was so close to home but it wasn't a very pleasant experience. I felt like I was intruding on them and the only time anyone cared to speak to me was when they were trying to sell me something. Granted we've all had some sort of sales job and they are a business after all so I understand trying to up sell your customers. But good lord I haven't seen such desperation in quite some time. They were trying to sell me hair products and services when I said all I wanted was a mani/pedi. Not only that they acted upset that I only wanted to get the basic level service and not the fancy one. Not pleasurable, not worth the time, and definitely not worth the high prices! i found iris salon online and their website looked really professional, so i went for a pedicure. the result was okay, but nothing really different than what i would get from the cheap place down the street from my house. the look of the place was kind of nice, but the service was lackluster. i felt like they were just trying to finish the pedi and get me out of there so they could move on to a more high-paying customer. more

I am very picky about my hair cut, but as soon as I walked in to Iris salon I was sold. First off the atmosphere is great and so are the people working there. Crystal very nice, She understood exactly what I wanted done with my hair, and picked out an amazing shade for my color. My hair never looked better. I felt like a model with the service that I received, and I looked one too. Even though I moved about an half hour away from the my old salon, I still go for the drive because its really worth it! I had decided that very day to cut off all my hair... gulp. I had a wig that I really enjoyed and had hoped to use it as the base of my new coif. I pulled into the parking spot in front of the store and took in the surroundings. Iris salon is in a shabby strip with pin-stripe on the windows, ala pawn shop. But they did have a well designed sign. Stuffing my trepidation, I enter. The interior of the salon was much more appealing than outside. There were chairs for pedi's and stalls for styles. I was meeting Crystal, who on their website is touted as an executive stylist. We had a couple of minutes of small talk. I had a wash and went over the wig with Crystal. I was sat in the chair and Crystal began to cut my hair. Crystal's cell phone rings and she asks ""Do you mind"" as the cell flips open. Without another word she cuts, head cocked to the side cradling the phone. She cuts without another word, aside from the Spanish she is speaking to her husband on the other end for 45 MINUTES.\r \r When my husband called back Crystal, using the psuedonym of Nikie the manager, played some games and said that I could get free high-lights. Fantastic Stylist! \r Last week I needed a new haircut. I happened to pass by Iris Salon and asked if there was anyone that could give me haircut that day. There was a stylist named Don who was available. I was a little nervous because cutting my hair is very difficult. I explained to him how I wanted my hair cut in detail. He payed close attention and took his time. he was very attentive while being very upbeat! I loved the way it turned out! I have never been more satisfied with the way it looked. I felt more confident and ready to show off my new cut! I recommend him to anyone who is looking for a quality haircut/stylist because He obviously knows what He is doing! After all, look at her hair! Bottom line after visiting this salon I knew I didnt want to have anyone else cut my hair! I moved to Austin a little over a year ago and though it's a wonderful city I haven't had the best of luck finding home at a new salon. I came across Iris because of the gobs of advertisement and coupons that they make available. I thought I had asked all the right questions one would asking trying out some place new but unfortunately I would be disappointed once more. The trim and pedi that I got would be second-rate at best, I genuinely felt as thought I just left supercuts. I didn't like the fact that I was mislead into thinking that I was about to pay for professional level service but in fact it was just another atypical strip mall experience. best eyebrow wax\r \r I was first sent to crystal for eyebrow waxing by my daughter. that I am very happy with her effective and exacting approach as well as her welcoming personality. I do not feel the need for eye makeup after my visits to Crystal. I donn't trust my eyebrows done by anyone else anymore.\r \r more

My friend and I live in the triangle and we went here recently to get her eyebrows done and a pedicure for myself. I didn't think it was anything special they like were advertised to be, which I didn't appreciate very much. It was just a typical strip mall shop. The people weren't very friendly and even after they ruined my friend's eyebrows the lady was trying to say that's how they're how suppose to look. I'm sorry but some people don't wax off their entire eyebrows and redraw them in. We've told everyone in our sorority about this place and what happened. I definitely wouldn't recommend it. I live in the triangle and thought I would stop by since it's right there across the street. Even though I thought I had done my homework first the place wasn't anything like I had expected. The people weren't very friendly and even though it was new you can tell not much attention was paid to cleaning. Even though I thought for a strip mall the price for just a brow wax was kind of high but I was already there so I decided to get it anyway. The Hispanic lady that did it was so rough! Oh my gosh, and the worst part is she took a huge chunk out of my left one and tried to even out the other side. Luckily there was a place that opened up just downstairs called Salon Intuitions who were so friendly in giving me advice on how to slowly fix them as they grow back and not look all crazy. I am not a high maintance, salon going girl. I go to the salon about once every Four months for a trim. I went to mandy, she was reccommended to me by a co worker. I told her i wanted to change my hair. She asked how often i would return, and how i styled out my hair everyday. Ask me what I do for a living, and totally created georgeous hair for me that will only have an every four month up keep. I loved my hair...ALOT. Which is kinda weird for me...cause usually I really don't get into stuff like that. I loved Mandy she was very down to earth....and super friendly. I will be back. I found this place on City Search after having tried MANY salons in Austin. I thought it was a risk to go someplace where i didn't know anyone who had been there. I couldn't be happier I took that chance. This place is so friendly and down to earth. Don gives the best cuts and is fabulous with color. You always feel welcomed. They really want their customers to be satisfied with everything. Everyone walks out looking really good. It's a great salon.\r \r more

I was browsing through and came across all the nice reviews and thought that I could do a make over for the spring. Since they had a coupon up as well I thought it was worth a shot to try some place new. Unfortunately I saved a few bucks but can't say that the experience was all that pleasant. My hair came out rather uneven and I ended up having to go back to my regular stylist for correction. I didn't even ask for much except for a clean up but some how it came out way too short and uneven. The pedicure was a total let down too - my friend and I didn't wanna say anything and still left a decent tip but definitely not worth the hassle of the coupon and unprofessional service. My friend and I were both nervous about searching for a new salon in the city. We had both had a mixed bag of previous experiences ranging from mediocre to average. We found Iris Salon online, and after seeing the glowing reviews decided to try it out. We got appointments with Shiva & Mandy and I can't write enough good things about this stylist. My previous haircut was completely straight and lacking any shape so I had asked Shiva to style it up as much as possible. She explained what sort of styles would work for me and what looks were complimentary to my face. I could see she took everything I said into consideration, truly listening to me and then put a lot of thought into how to achieve the best look for me. Shiva was very vocal and opinionated about what would look best and thus exactly what I was looking for. She also advised me on what sort of products I should be using for my hair type (without being pushy about selling) and how to style my hair at home. My mani/pedi at Iris salon was probably the best i've ever had. At first, I was a bit skeptic since it was free mani with padi $25 both but it was well worth it. Not only was the therapist really careful and caring, making sure my nails look great, it also includes a reflexology session, which makes the price even better. The only complaint I have, which really isn't a complaint, is that making an appointment is best. I walked in and I needed to wait a bit before I started so make sure you make one if you decide to go. But i guess waiting wasn't that bad since they had snacks & wine, which is always good.\r \r more

If you've had a bad hair cut you know what it's like to try and get the nerve up and go to another salon. Well imagine if you had a bad hair cut, top that with terribly damaging color and now your hair is falling out! Thank goodness for Iris salon and their team. The first good sign was when I called a friendly voice listened earnestly to my tragic tale and when I finished she talked a little about procedure and price then told me if I was still interested come in a consultation. Shiva took about 20 minutes to talk with me and show me different options and it was all so very personal. When I came in a few days later the entire team was ready for me, Shiva did a absolutely perfect job on coloring my hair, without even a color chart she mixed up amazing tones and highlights making my hair so radiant and natural. shaped the nasty remains of my hair into a sassy and classic style.. Both Shiva and Crystal won my trust and heart with their honesty and sincerity. Everyone in the salon worked as a team, very relaxed and casual but attention to detail was always top of mind. These lady's helped each other with different customers, joked and yet every customer left with perfect hair and a smile of satisfaction. The confidence this team exudes makes you feel at ease. Keep in mind this was not my first visit to one of Austin' ""premier"" salons, so I was ready for the snobs, over priced products, harsh attitudes and egos. recently had an appointment for Solar nail and pedicure with Tuy...yes, ..she does everything! I must say that I had the most amazing day. Tuys skills and goes beyond the salon. My name is Jacqueline Sinkes, and I came in yesterday, October 9, 2007 for a cut and highlights with Mandy at 10am. It was my first time visiting Iris Salon, and I was so impressed with the service I received, that I thought it warranted an email!\r \r From the time I walked in the door, my experience was uniformly positive. My stylist Mandy was very friendly, courteous, and attentive. She repeatedly asked me if I was comfortable, offered me refreshments, and was very much in-tune with what I was wanting for my hair. \r \r Beyond the outstanding customer service, my hair looks absolutely wonderful, and it was obvious that Mandy was very detail oriented and skilled. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience, especially considering that the prices were so fair!\r \r I look forward to visiting your salon again soon!
