Very Nice 4/21/2011

I'm writing this because I think this website and this place deserves a better review than the one by ""Zwife"". Honestly, I wish I could give that woman zero stars. Do we really need to be so pretentious about a nail salon? This is already such a selfish and unnecessary privledge that woman have become obsessed with. ""Uneducated Manicurists""? Really - what did that woman want, a manicurist with a f-in masters?? I have gone to a lot of nail salons in Brooklyn and Manhattan and I honestly find Iris Nails as one of my favorite places. I believe I have simple criteria: clean, friendly, good quality, & affordable. They meet almost all of this. They are especially clean and very friendly!! I appreciate the environment they have created both physically and socially that makes me feel comfortable, relaxed, and welcomed. The quality for the most part has been great but every once in a while my nails chip before a week. (Clearly, not the end of the world.) I find their manicures and the massages to be incredibly reasonable but unfortunately the pedicures are too high for me....maybe one day I'll treat myself. In the summer...say around 5pm... it can be very crowded so I'd avoid that time if possible. Other than that, I go there all the time and always introduce friends not from the city to this salon. more

Horrible service- uneducated manicurists 5/8/2009

To be clear this is for the location on 5th Avenue and 32nd street: I went to get a french pedicure after work yesterday at a place called Iris. I sat down an Asian woman (named jennifer) did not offer to turn on the massage chair. So I turned it on myself. Another woman was reading magazines, I was never offered ONE. When it came time to put the polish on, she put a light pink that looked clear and then the white strips over it. Frustrated, I spoke up. She said ""oh you want darker, OK"". She went to get something that looked to be the same color, showed me and I said ""NO"". She said ""OK you pick""..so I found a decent *pink* color. She said..""this too dark, not gonna look good""..she actually said that! So then what does she do? Paints a thin layer over what she already did, so the white strips still show through only now are pink. I actually said ""are you serious""? She said ""I told you not looks good"". I really felt like I was on Candid Camera or Howie Do It. I told her to please put the pink polish on first THEN the white over it. She said ""Ohhh, you want American French, what I do is European French most people want it"". UH, last time I checked, this is AMERICA. Finally she was done, it wasn't even what I wanted but it was way better than a clear looking nail with white strips on them...which looks horribly cheesy to me, like someone was too lazy to paint their nails but tried to jazz em up by putting white strips on em. She then ushered me to the drying station, and while I was watching all the other patrons get mini back massages while their nails dried, no one offered me once. I paid her, and blatantly did not leave a tip. I wish I could give this ZERO stars Cons: service was horrendous more

Disappointed and stuck with painful nails. 11/25/2008

I went here because I was looking to spend a lot and get a fantastic manicure/pedicure. Unfortunately I was treated by a girl (Julie, I believe) who flat-out ignored my requests during the manicure and pedicure. Not only did I give her verbal instructions but I used sign-language. Now, just 2 days post-treatment I have pains in my fingernails & toenails. She cut all my nails too short so now they're growing into the skin. I work on a computer all day and wear high-heels to work so having such pains is incredibly inconvenient-especially when you spend $100+ for the treatment! Pros: Great chair massage...probably to make up for her ruining my nails for the next month Cons: Horrible manicure/pedicure. more

avoid overall 1/8/2008

i was in desperate need for a mani pedi one day and the place that i usually go to was fully booked so i just walked over to this place on broadway. wow was i dumb for not waiting. the service was so rude and obnoxious i couldnt understand one word they were saying. and on top of that, the woman cutting my cuticle on my foot cut me with the razor and i had to go all the way to a drugstore to get neosporin so that it wouldnt get infected. i dont even know if it was sanitary. all i know is taht i definetly wont be going back there. ever. Pros: never busy u never have to wait i guess Cons: everything else, *bring your own neosporin just in case more

Pedicures are not long lasting 7/22/2006

nice place, clean but the pedicures are always the shortest lasting. within a week they chip off, compared to other places that manage to make pedicures last a couple weeks. okay if you are willing to go once a week. Pros: nice place Cons: pedicure doesn't last more
